Hey guys! Sorry for my absence since the Bojack video. Just wanted to hop in here to say that I will be posting a video within the next week or so (I just finished the script). It's going to be shorter than the Bojack video and it'll also be less formal. It won't be a video essay. Instead, It'll be a semi-quick review of some movies I've seen in theaters recently. See you soon!

It's easy to think a show or movie is "the best you've ever seen" when you're a teenager. But I'm nearing 40 and I can say Bojack Horseman is absolutely one of the best shows I've ever seen. For me, and also my brother, it was like oh... this is a show written by people who think like me, who have a view of the world like mine, that's sort of nihilistic but paradoxically hopeful.

I thought the idea of a show “changing your life” was dramatic for a while but then I saw this show and it changed my life too. It wrecked me emotionally in the best way

This show had such a profound effect on me, as well. It didn't only change my life, but it saved me. The horror of S5E11 helped snap me out of letting myself waste away being high all the time, and now I'm clean and sober. It's helped me try and be a better person (even if I'm not always successful) and work on changing myself and the way I treat others.
Glad to know I'm not the only one that this show affected so deeply. Thanks for a wonderful video. :)

As someone double your age I just want to let you know to stop worrying about feeling pretentious. Everyone grows up and moves beyond the media they consume as children without any life experience. Once you hit some of those life-altering milestones like heartbreak or death or any of the many moments that let you know there is no returning to where you once had been. Appreciate this journey you have recently found yourself on. Drop every little thought about how others might view how you view things. Media is a deeply personal experience. Someone who has never lost a parent might be able to make it through something as simple as The Lion King without batting an eye but someone who dealt with the death of a parent will find themselves frozen with Simba as he screams for help. I've shown Bojack to people who haven't dealt with mental illness or substances or child abuse and they might LIKE it but they don't understand why I get so silent during certain moments. And I can promise you every cent I own that you will look back at Bojack at 20, 25, 30 and each time you will find a different character that really connects to you. I know so many younger people who don't like PC but I don't think I've found a person over 30 that doesn't view her as one of the best-written characters.

This was a wonderful video essay. You made me realize why one of my best friends hated Bojack; because she hasn't gone past S1E8! I told her earlier that I also hadn't liked it when I started, and that if she watches a little more, she will see the genius of it. But she said it looked stupid to her, which got me mad and disappointed. This has never come up between us since then. Now I got really strong arguments haha and I feel like I should watch Bojack again, not only video essays about it. Btw, none of what you said sounded pretentious. I didn't think you binge watch Bojack 24/7. Your words weren't too dramatic. They were 'perfectly dramatic enough'. Also you've got great editing skills. I hope you're working on more projects. I will be looking forward to the next one I'll see.

I just finished the series a few days ago, I can definitely say it was one of the best things I've ever watched. It's messages felt helpful, insightful, and just meaningful. I do feel like it has changed me in ways, or at least my views. This was an excellent video! 👏

this show gave me insite to my (Diene & Mr Peanutbutter esque) relationship and helped me see our problems more clearly so that we can work on them. Things are not perfect but they are getting much better.

Regardless of ones shit upbringing from a child to an adult, at the end, you're responsible for your own life choices, both good and bad.

How can you like Diane? Season 3 episode 10 made me really start disliking her. Utterly self involved and unsupportive of her less destructive friends.

It is the most profoundly human show that I have ever seen. And it's the only show that has ever forced me to pause an episode in the middle, so that I could openly weep for a full ten minutes, before finally continuing on.
