You have to listen to Black Swan and The Constant and even Wolves where they go beyond that formulaic prototype. Its been so long since they have done such simplistic material.
The fact that this song is similar to Until the Day I die is what makes this song so damn good! This song is a modern version of it and could totally be a hit in this day and age.

If you want to sound like SotY but want a new sound two things: 1) Listen to their last album, Wolves, from 2017. Sounds entirely different but is still clearly them. 2) The new album has a lot more variety. Many track that are MUCH harder, and tracks that are softer, and some that are just intense without needing to be overly hard. This is the soft pitch to open the game up. Watch for the next single ;)
@@JohnDoe-mv2be I don’t want to say a lot more, as to not spoil anything or ruin any planned reveals but I’ll just say it’s varied and amazing. This 10 out of 10 new single doesn’t even crack the top 50% of all songs on the album IMO. So many 11 out of 10s 🤣
@@Kido1986 understandable, and I'm stoked, I listened to this song on constant repeat for like 3 days, blows Wolves out of the water. I liked that album but there were too many tracks that felt too safe.
@@JohnDoe-mv2be I disagree about wolves. I thought the album was incredibly strong. It’s definitely the most personal, Dans lyrics we’re about him and his life. Tracks like praying for rain were definitely new and different for them and I really appreciated them. Good night my love and miracle are two of my favorite songs ever.
kinda disagree here with the older stuff, their latest album Wolves was amazing, you should definitely check out Miracle from that album if you haven't
Everything this band has put out has been great. But I agree with you on the first two albums. Especially In the Wake of Determination. Easily one ofy favorite albums of all time. Im excited to hear what else they do with the new album.
I hate when people say it sounds like their old albums… because it doesn’t. Not as hardcore as those by any means. But I still love SOTY and I’ll be seeing them next weekend at Blue Ridge Rock Fest
Yessss! I didn't know if they were ever gonna make music again. Glad they did. Have you guys heard "Bang Bang"? It's probably my favorite song of theirs.🤘🤘
Great review fellas! I think it all boils down to what someone is really into music/genre wise. Some love melodic hooks while others love chuggy breakdowns in drop A. IMO a hook is a hook. I definitely hear a couple hooks in this song, which is why I love it. As a musician, I can totally see a familiar structure, but if I find myself singing it or humming the melody on my own, I could care less if a “drop out” during a bridge sounds like a single I’ve heard way back when. There’s plenty of metalcore bands that have very similar structures between blast beats and breakdowns. Doesn’t seem to bother anyone from that scene audience wise. As long as they can kick and scream along, it serves them well. It’s natural to pick things apart and overthink whether something is resonating or not, but a great song is a great song. These guys have always brought some serious hits to the stage. Whether it was Punk, Emo, or Riffy. I’m looking forward to the rest of their album.
The blood is a metaphor. They're bleeding themselves dry within their relationship. Meaning, they're slowly killing each other. That's what I got from it, anyway.
Nath I'm with you on this band, I never got into them, I only have one song on my playlist from them called "The Antidote" Looking forward to giving them a deep dive!
You want adventure, go listen to their album Wolves. They experiment and it sounds so damn good. Different lyrical content a dash of synths too. Oh and the Black Swan kicks ass too. Hell the Constant has a few bangers. Idk about this first two albums and dropped off stuff.
Great review. They miss phillip Moon on guitar and harmonies big time imo. Also, that bridge is 💯 the same as until the day I die. I also thought that immediately. With that being said, I love these dudes and am glad they are still around.
The Constant has some filler but I just revisited it and I'm hooked on it again. The Black Swan might be their best. I think the reason there was such a long break from The Constant to Wolves and Wolves to this new stuff is Dan's screams sounded pretty fried but his voice sounds SO good again. Miss Phil but Ryan is killing the riffs.
I've been following this band since their first album. I think this song is different than a lot of their other work. It has a different feel to me despite having similar parts. It's still a good track, though.
Come on man... Your whole comment section at the end seems like you must have missed the album Wolves!!! If ever you were a SOTY fan, You owe it to yourself to listen to at least Youth/I Swear I'm OK; Miracle; and Praying for Rain from that album (but the whole thing is dope, and runs the gambit from light to heavy). If you don't think that album literally answers your request/comments at the end, your ears may be broken :) lmao
In wake of determination is an amazing album, but like Johnny, have kind of fallen off them since then. Might check out their new stuff, hope they still have some heavy riffening
Great song but way too basic. I literally started singing Until the Day I Die during the bridge and was disappointed that it didn't do anything interesting after. That said, this will always be one of my favorite bands so I'm looking forward to the new album. Also ignore the first two albums. "Black Swan" is their best album and one of the best albums you'll ever hear.
Similar view on SOTY. Loved them back in the day and gradually lost interest. However, their last album Wolves has a handful of bangers on it, that are a little bit different.
I was really hoping they were gonna blow our minds with something completely new and different. Sadly it was a been there heard that, disappointing, moment.
Dudes! I’m so stoked y’all are reviewing them. They are the best dudes ever. The new album is so good
I hope it's riffy
New album ?
Super pumped for it. You able to share some tracks, ya know, since you prob have an “in,” with your own song and all ;)
IS THIS THEEEEEEEEEEE MIKE CRONIN? Guys - this guy is famous. His name is IN their last album tracklisting. Holy CRAP! It's MIKE CRONIN!
Hell yeah Cronin, who won the battle for your soul?
You have to listen to Black Swan and The Constant and even Wolves where they go beyond that formulaic prototype. Its been so long since they have done such simplistic material.
This is a great song that fuels on our nostalgia. I hope we get more from them while still propelling themselves forward

Really excited to see what they do from here. Their self titled album from 2017 ended up being my favorite of theirs, especially I Swear I'm Okay.
Great album, but it was called Wolves, not self-titled.
@@WhereOceansMeeet you're right. not sure why I said self titled

The Black Swan and The Constant didn't do much for me but Wolves was a pretty good record. This song definitely feels like a throwback to 2003 though.

I think this is to bring back their original style, page avenue was their best effort and this song sounds like it could be in that record.
Can anyone else imagine Simple Plan playing this song?
