There's probably a lot more to it but a major cause of his falling-out with Taylor was when Taylor became manager of Derby County and signed John Robertson from Nottingham Forest. It is a cold man that didn't shed a tear at the end of this excellent documentary. I write this comment on the 1st May 2022, and in two days from now, a football match every bit as important as any Champions League Final of today will take place in Bournemouth, as they play Nottingham Forest with a 3pt lead, and just 1 more game to play afterwards, for possible promotion to the Premier League, for the first time since the end of this documentary. I am a lifelong Manchester City Football Club fan, privileged to have existed in the Brian Clough era, when men were men, and bullshit took a bus home. Clough was arrogant, Clough could infuriate a saint, but the man took every hit, and every piece of attention bad or good, because he knew it took the pressure off his players on the pitch, and then the football could talk for itself. As a young child, Manchester City (the club with no history) were teetering on the exact same wobbly ground as Nottingham Forest, and we were not long before falling heavily without first reaching up as Forest were able to. We could not stretch up high enough to achieve what Clough did with Nottingham Forest. For all that Joe Mercer was, he was not Brian Clough. City since have seen nothing short of a miracle happen at the club, and we are where we are now, and yet have still not ever achieved what Brian Clough that Nottingham Forest team did in the 1970's & 1980's. They say football must always come before tribal support, and this coming week could not speak for that more. On Tuesday night I will forget my own colours, with all respect to AFC Bournemouth, because I know what it feels like to see a phoenix rise from the flames. Young supporters do not believe in legacy, because they simply have not started one yet. For any football supporter, that remembers this era though, and given the football already seen of Nottingham Forest earlier this season in the F.A Cup, it is far past the time when this iconic football club should return to their spiritual home of top flight football. You earn your place in a footballing ladder, that is true, but if you don't believe there are forces stronger than all of us, then given Nottingham Forest's league position just months ago, you really should believe in fairies, because should Nottingham Forest win their next two football matches, the entire world will be, just for a while, Nottingham Forest supporters, for every reason given in this video. In fact, I feel it is so important, I say with my hand on my heart, if it was between Nottingham Forest finally regaining their place in the Premier League, or Manchester City winning our first Champions League this season, I will choose a Nottingham Forest promotion, because there are things far bigger than me, my support, my football club, and football itself. We will never see anyone like Brian Clough again, he is simply a man who could not be told how to be, or how the beautiful game could be played, and when you look at everything at that time that was available to him, no academy, no massive stadium, no state-of-the-art training facilities, no wealth to simply pick and choose any player that took the fancy, with only maybe one or two choices every season, it's only then you realise the genius of Brian Clough, still to this day not formerly recognised by his sport properly, a man who was ignored by an F.A who still employ 'yes men' as England football manager, and still disliked by so many, who couldn't put petty ego and self-importance aside, when spoken to and of, by a man who never said anything worse than, I want to achieve great things, and to be better for that, and more importantly, I want my team and football club to be better than yours, and that is the reason we are intrinsically attached to this sport. To Nottingham Forest Football Club and all supporters of the club. May the wings of all the footballing Gods, lift you in the coming weeks, and do so with one name on your lips. Brian Clough ended up literally giving his life to you (and one or two right-handers also) and if he is up there right now, rest assured he is annoying and gobbing off to whoever he needs to, to make sure we all see Nottingham Forest in the Premier League for season 2022/23. 'If you win something once, they say it is luck. If you win it again, then you shut the buggers up' - Brian Clough.
An excellent documentary, one of the best I've seen on Clough. So accurate, even down to the fact of director Jack Kirkland's insulting of Taylor triggering the resignations from Derby. Whether you supported Derby or Forest those were wonderful times.
Cocky, enigmatic and brash but deep down there is a man who was as meticulous as Ferguson was with man-management and a man who knew when and where to push the right buttons. The face of Forest and an icon of the English game.
Not to denote Sir Alex but I doubt that he could take a 2nd division side and take them to heights undiscovered. When Sir Alex took over United in '86, they already had the reputation of a top side despite not living up to their past achievements. Clough and Taylor took both Derby and Forest who had little to no impact in the footballing landscape and made them the force that they were and provided league titles and European Cups with Forest back-to-back (which Ferguson couldn't achieve with the financial backing of the Premier League and Sky Sports.) Those guys did it with chump change in an era where football was strict in terms of player transfers and allocation of money across the leagues.
@@creative_soul-recolo agreed with everything except the money part From 1974 - 1974 forest spent the most money in England Also u shouldn’t compare financial backing from different eras U should do it by percentage
Bullying man management was his style. Peter Taylor was his foil in the good cop bad cop team in feelings. Once they parted Clough's man management was erratic.
@@creative_soul-recolo Don't forget Ferguson won lots of trophies with Aberdeen and challenged the Old Firm dominance of Scottish football. He also led St Mirren to promotion to the SPL.

As a lifelong Forest fan who lived the Clough era and has read and watched most most documentaries about the great man, this is one of the best. Thankyou balón.
In any situation, no matter what it is, it's always a pleasure to be around someone who's 'the most' at something, and watch them show it. Without a doubt, this guy has gotta be 'the most', in terms of English-football knowledge, of every non-English person in the entire world. And that doesn't begin to cover all the other football cultures he knows vast amounts about. Truly a class apart.
I would absolutely LOVE to see a Balón documentary on Arrigo Sacchi & Fabio Capello's Milan teams (1987-1996) !!!! You're the best Football RUclipsr by far, the definition of quality over quantity!
He already made this video several days earlier. And this includes Milan under Ancelotti up until 2007, when they won the last Champions League, to date.
Stunning video. I was a kid and teenager when all this was happening. This captured it beautifully. As a Liverpool fan, I hated when we were playing Forest. Also, my first game I ever watched was 11th March 1972 Spurs vs Derby when Cloughie was their manager. Talk about a flawed genius. He and Peter Taylor were the living embodiment of symbiosis in football
Derby and Forest must be the only rivalry in world football that both adore the same legend. The argument about who Clough preferred will go on forever.
bro, he owns another channel in Arabic with the same name and he is of Arab origin, so imagine the amount of work and effort he puts in, he is a super person, he is great
Subscribed - what an unbelievable breakdown of one of the greatest Managerial careers. You've been able to keep me enthralled with minimal Cloughie clips/quotes. I think Clough is so unique in the sense that he embodied; arrogance, relatability, expertise, development, genius, calmness, guile, graft and grace. Legend
used to speak with brian a lot met him at functions and when he used to go to the meynell arms hotel for a drink in the evening back in the day...god he could talk used to have his driver with him when out for a drink.. he was a very confident person..LOL used to get checks for functions i did from the football association..thats where i used to see him and spoke to him often
Fantastic documentary. People loved Clough and admired him, even when they supported his rivals. Forest were seemingly unbeatable for years. Thanks for this great presentation..
Clough took two clubs from the bottom of a lower division to win the First Division title. He took Derby to the semi final of the European cup until they were cheated by a corrupt ref. Then took Forest to back to back European Cups when it was a straight knock out competition with only the champions of other leagues. The best ever.
@tackler96 Revie took Leeds from division two to two league titles. However he didn't win one European Cup never mind two. Clough built two title winning sides from scratch.
Would love to see this. That was quite probably the last great Premier League season and title race because since then the winners have more than most won it at a canter
This was a fantastic film managing to encapsulate a fantastic man manager and career, Much of the sentiment of other documentary films was allowed to be put to one side and the facts and history are placed firmly on the table, from someone who doesn’t follow Nottingham Forest but was around during that period and witnessed these things that he achieved I found myself wiping away at the end of the film a tear or to, it was a golden era great film.
How Clough and Taylor made two 2nd divisions teams champions of England is beyond imaginable. That too without playing rough and dirty when playing rough and dirty was the norm. Sadly, nothing in football is guaranteed especially in 70s and 80s when clubs didn't have massive sponsors and were financially fragile, and failure to build on past achievements lead to downward spiral, unfortunately that's what happened here as well. Nonetheless, Clough was a true captain, steered the sinking ship till the end.
They also did it with both clubs in successive seasons. How many, today, know that Nottingham Forest won the European Cup (today the champions league) two seasons on the trot.
Honestly, really well done with this video. Brian Clough is my favourite Football manager of all time, said it like it was and was unafraid to do so. I'm a West Brom supporter in my 40's and still remember Forests hey day, early and late 1980's. I remember one or two of my friends who started supporting them whilst they were on top, typical glory hunters haha. You could do a video on his one liners and anecdotes alone. Good stuff
My favourite is " if a player and I have a disagreement about something we talk about it for a few minutes and then decide that I was right ! " ( or words to that effect ).
Truly brilliant documentary. Thank you so much. (Especially the clarity of the picture) The greatest manager. For example Kenny Burns. Changed from a journeyman striker to a footballer of the year centre back. Genius.
46:32 that thumbs up he gave to the Forest supporters during the match when they were destined to go down was an act of defiance and a message of gratitude to the supporters
I think you took a lot from the documentary, "I believe in miracles" with this but weirdly, I preferred your documentary. This was so beautifully done. Well done young man, keep it up!!
Me, I'm 68 years, my wish is to see the three great, 1970s football teams, Leeds Utd, Derby County and Nottingham Forrest in the top flight of English football....my friend says, "You have not enough time left Martin." Peace be unto you.
Excellent really enjoyed that thanks.... RIP cloughie its tragic that this guy never got the opportunity to manage the national team...... We love cloughie ❤️

Class Work. Thank You. Beautifully put together. We may have a "new" Brian Clough at Forest - look at what we have done this season. His name is Steve Cooper. You Reds!
After the recent Bournemouth game , Forest fans were wishing Cherries the best of luck in YT Comments . Brian would’ve approved of such manners & respect. Best of luck to Forest next season too. 👍

Despite the FA Cup final defeat in 1991 Forest were pretty successful in that era. In 1992 they won the now-defunct Full Members Cup and reached the League Cup final as well as finishing 8th in the league. That last season was simply a disaster and almost came from nowhere, a really sad end to a great career.
He was badly affected by the change in the back-pass rule. It meant the ball was in play for so much more of the time and Forest just weren't fit enough.
@@dlamiss Jonathon Wilson's Clough biography quotes Steve Hodge, amongst others, making precisely this point. They were infamous for their lack of fitness training.
To this day, still one of the greatest achievements in English football working miracles with Derby County and by getting Nottingham Forest up from the Second Division, win the First Division title and then back to back victories in the European Cup (1978-79, 1979-80).
You didn't mention that Forest didn't get promoted till Taylor joined Clough at Forest. Not a coincidence, and neither is the fact that when Taylor left Forest they won 2 league cups in 9 years, then got relegated.
At first I thought, just another Clough film, seen it all before, but I watched anyway. By the end I thought, brilliantly well made, says everything in under 49 minutes that others have taken 90+ to say, emphasised exectly the right things. I did notice the Grasshoppers mistake but I'll excuse that! Very well done. I will be subscribing :)
By far the best documentary you have made to date. Thats not to say the others aren’t great, because they are. This is special because Clough was special, and what he accomplished was special, and likely to never be replicated again. I salute you sir, absolutely brilliant work and thank you so much for making this high quality content available for us to watch and share. Clough was simply put unique and a flawed genius as many geniuses are. He allowed alcohol to get the better of him, as many great men have. The way it ended was extermely sad to see. A little like the great Muhammad Ali, he went on too long, when he could easily have retired at the top. I guess pride and the lure of more glory is hard for these great men to turn down. Thank you again for an amazing documentary and I look forward to your next masterpiece. 👍

Absolutely loved this, my dad loved the fact that forest came from nowhere to challenge an outstanding Liverpool side at the time, he would have me watching forest on the telly whenever they were on! Wonderful memories that took me back to when I was a youngster in love with the beautiful game! My team Everton achieved (albeit briefly) title success & 2 major cups in the 80,s. A magical era when teams were built from mostly up & coming British players with a mix of older pros, creating history winning major honours! It’s utter shite these days in comparison.
80k Subs is quite insulting for a channel with such quality. This retro style of documentaries has that rare nostalgia that only sport, particularly football can bring. I wonder where he gets such nice images. Most archives don't have AI enhanced images such as the ones he uses.

Clough and Taylor took both Derby and Forest who had little to no impact in the footballing landscape and made them the force that they were and provided league titles and European Cups with Forest back-to-back (which Ferguson couldn't achieve with the financial backing of the Premier League and Sky Sports.)
Those guys did it with chump change in an era where football was strict in terms of player transfers and allocation of money across the leagues.
@@creative_soul-recolo agreed with everything except the money part
From 1974 - 1974 forest spent the most money in England
Also u shouldn’t compare financial backing from different eras
U should do it by percentage
@@sharpleven9986 Thanks. I will make sure to do that 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Bullying man management was his style.
Balon is unique, the editing, the production value, it looks so professional you might forget its located on youtube - every time you post is like the sun shines on the darkest days, keep on producing such stupendous pieces of art lad

I never tire of hearing Clought's story. Thanks for posting this.
Brilliant video I would love one on 60,70 and 80s Liverpool team
Such a fantastic documentary and a wonderful tribute to the great man. I think Brian is respected and admired by fans from all clubs for his drive, passion, tenacity and sheer belief in the ability of his players to deliver. Not forgetting of course Peter Taylor who played a massive part in the successes at both Derby and Forest.
Thanks to those who took the trouble to put this documentary together and post it on you tube, much appreciated.
Lifelong Forest fan here, a brilliant job sir! So many fantastic memories 😃
Very well done Mr Clough... Its been a very entertaining time to know of you..
There will never be many like you..
You had Charisma.. and it still shows itself in the reappearing records of history..
Thanks
You pick the best stories to tell, and you tell them expertly. 💯
I love the different musical style to this video. Nice to see continued variety in the content
I’ve been waiting for a documentary on this man for quite some time. My favourite manager ever to exist.
The best England manager football never had
@@clivestraw1913 that's true you have to be a yes man for that position
@@clivestraw1913 That tired old cliche is a load of rubbish. Clough would not have been successful with England as he would have upset everybody with his brash cocky arrogant ways and would soon have been sacked.
@@CB-xr1eg He's referring to an older, high production documentary about Clough called "The Greatest Manager England Never Had". It's on RUclips and definitely worth the watch.
@@jesperjnsson6268 How do you know what he's referring to?
As a Forest fan for many years this is the best documentary I've seen on the history of the team during the Clough/Taylor reign. Congratulations on putting together a very stylish production.
As a lifelong Forest fan who lived the Clough era and has read and watched most most documentaries about the great man, this is one of the best.
Thankyou balón.
Incredible. His career much like everything else ends not in roaring thunder but a quiet whimper
YES YES YES!
Yep
Superb video again, I think you really did justice to Clough's amazing story. Would love to see a similar video about Bobby Robson's career
I am crying watching it at the end
I love this story❤️❤️❤️❤️🥺🥺🥺
I love this channel
You know it’s gonna be amazing day when balón post 🙌🏼

YES!!! Been waiting on a new video for ages. This is by far the BEST football Channel on RUclips! From Glasgow Scotland 🏴! Celtic Fc 🍀🍀
Legend
used to speak with brian a lot met him at functions and when he used to go to the meynell arms hotel for a drink in the evening back in the day...god he could talk used to have his driver with him when out for a drink.. he was a very confident person..LOL
used to get checks for functions i did from the football association..thats where i used to see him and spoke to him often
Fantastic documentary. People loved Clough and admired him, even when they supported his rivals. Forest were seemingly unbeatable for years. Thanks for this great presentation..
Your documentaries are superb. Viewing for after The Famous v Motherwell at noon today sorted👌
The greatest English manager of all time without a shadow of a doubt.
Bob paisley
@@andrewdinatale8207 Yes, he's also a great shout. But I picked Clough because he built both Derby and Nottingham from scratch.
Don forget Don revvie
Clough took two clubs from the bottom of a lower division to win the First Division title. He took Derby to the semi final of the European cup until they were cheated by a corrupt ref. Then took Forest to back to back European Cups when it was a straight knock out competition with only the champions of other leagues. The best ever.
@tackler96 Revie took Leeds from division two to two league titles. However he didn't win one European Cup never mind two. Clough built two title winning sides from scratch.
This was superb 👏👏
Amazing documentary as always, keep going! Waiting for IN DETAIL: The 13/14 English Premier League
Would love to see this. That was quite probably the last great Premier League season and title race because since then the winners have more than most won it at a canter
@@JayTechZM yea thats why i reccomend to record that amazing season
@@JayTechZM This season has an amazing title race tho.
I think we will be promoted this season. I hope where ever Clough is, he'll be proud.
Thank you Fahad. You put your heart and soul to each of your videos, and it shows. Bravo!
Just watched this on the video !
Superb, top quality documentary. Excellent choice of content, hard to be bettered. Thank you!
Truly brilliant documentary. Thank you so much.
(Especially the clarity of the picture)
The greatest manager. For example Kenny Burns.
Changed from a journeyman striker to a footballer
of the year centre back.
Leeds will be up there next year most likely, Forest will likely stay up but Derby won't be anywhere near the top flight for a while
@@indiekiddrugpatrol3117 Mansfield Town will up there before Derby! (Nigel Clough)

Excellent really enjoyed that thanks.... RIP cloughie its tragic that this guy never got the opportunity to manage the national team...... We love cloughie ❤️
I was 7 when I saw this 46:50 I remember laughing thinking...ohhh this old drunken man. In my 30s I read his book with such a new perspective on who he was and this scene always makes me emotional.
Class Work. Thank You. Beautifully put together. We may have a "new" Brian Clough at Forest - look at what we have done this season. His name is Steve Cooper. You Reds!

What a superb documentary. Pace, production, soundtrack and script …top job 👍👍👍👍👍
The smirk after telling everyone dont be stupid to write them out of the competition...brilliant!
Outstanding documentary .... I lived through all of this and I doubt whether it could have been done better.
@@Spectrescup True. Leeds United’s decline that season having been champions the year before showed just how seismic the rule change was.
@@toph8298 Leeds haven't recovered from that rule change...

Great documentary.... Fantastic Job! Well Done!
I am from the same street as sir Brian
He is my hero
Back to back european cups after being promoted from the second division is a triumph that will never be repeated
I have never heard of him. Thank you so much for this.
A superb documentary, unclouded by prejudice, I really enjoyed this honest look at Brian Clough.
