This is why the idea of that I may be miss diagnosed is not leaving my brain -_- I mean I had shivers for a long time, and they didn't annoy me. But when I grew up I wanted to know their reason. The doctor gave me thyroid gland tests and everything was fine. when I came back with the tests' results and he knew that I have no problem with the gland, he asked me if there is someone in my family shivers. I said no. then he asked me to fold a paper twice. And that's it ; the conclusion was that I have essential tremor. I know he has experience and he knows better but that looked fast for me and looked like he didn't take my shivers seriously. It is normal because I had them for a long time, but still there is no other reason to check for the shivers? It looked to me like he put only two possible reasons; either the gland or essential tremor.
This is what I'm going through so much more than I could ever have imagined. Now flailing twisting &? turning so much energy use and thenthe pain ooooooh my goodness
I have had a mild care ET in my left hand (I am a lefty) for the last 10 years. I find having a glass of red wine with my dinner helps control the mild case of ET. Also taking a Valerian Capsule twice per day, also helps. If I get nervous or stressed the mild case of ET becomes more noticeable. I can do most things without any shaking of my left hand. If I pick up a full mug of coffee my left hand will shake. The weight of the filled mug and the angle I hold my hand with a bottle of wine or mug of coffee or glass of water, will cause my left hand to shake. I am not taking any meds for ET and do not plan on taking any except natural herbs, which do help, not surprisingly. The side effects of drugs for ET, have caused me to ignore them.
Is it possible to have Parkinson's and an essential tremor? I was told by my first neurologist (before finding a movement specialist) that this is possible. My tremor improves with taking propranolol (I take this for high blood pressure and was taking it before I started Levodopa-carbidopa medication) and improves with drinking alcohol. I have had a DaTscan done and it indicated Parkinsonian syndrome. My writing becomes a large scribble but when I can control it by steadying with my left hand, it becomes very small. My tremor becomes worse when trying to do something like writing, holding a cup, using a fork, etc.
