I gave a blood oath with my palm once when I swiped my leg and found it was partially open in my pocket. Great knife, just keep it tucked in your pocket the right way
This has all the pros of a karambit in a small, foldable package. Most folding karambits leave you in fear of cutting off your fingers if the lock fails. This fold design completely eliminates that possibility. Many knife fighting techniques put pressure on the back of the blade when capturing or controlling your opponent's hand. There's no other foldable blade I'd feel as confident in doing so than this knife. I absolutely love mine. Also, totally agree with the advice to not spin it around. There's people who are good spinners and then there's people who are good fighters. If you want something to spin get a pair of nunchucks.
A single edge grind might be a pain in the ass to sharpen but it is doable. I'm wanting to pick this up but I'm currently using the CRKT Ontanashi Noh Ken right now. Had it for 3 years and its rock solid.
Awesome intro, I picked one of these up and increases the detent to reduce deployment as I had it get stuck in my pocket open when messing with it. The Kickstarter version is built by Millit. Also CRKT now offers a Sheath for the knife too.
Great detailed review, very informative, thank you. I never heard of this knife till yesterday when I was looking at what is a cheap Chinese copy and someone in the reviews mentioned the Provoke. When I saw the folding style it was intriguing so I ordered the copy to see if I'd like the concept. $23 Canadian and next day delivery for the amazon copy and i like it, for the price I cannot complain, it's functional and fun to play with. I think I'll eventually own the provoke soon.
Just got this with veff serrations loving it so far trainer on the way for practice. Good design and tool for $300 combined nice video too enjoyed it a lot
4 years late, however I trained in Silat for some years. Yes you can spin the blade on the ring, however if you’re not used to using your thumb to stop the blade then you’ll get cut. Even though I’m left handed, it was taught to be used in my non dominant hand because the left hand was used to trap so that way I could check opponents with my right hand with the knife.
Good review though I do not see it self deploying or being dangerous to the user in any way. It is a combat kniife and great eaily held open or closed while using a firearm. Its not for peeling an apple, carving a stick,...not that it can't, its just made for fighting. Personally, I hope to never be in such a situation, but it would clearly be very effective. Do you need a Karambit? Likely not, but it is very innovative, and very application specific.
A great review on an Awesome knife. A perfect device to open boxed. My retired Military family members. Would also enjoy this gift. Once again I'm glad I found this Tech Channel. Thank you for posting this video..
Are there different iterations of this? Because the thickness of it was about double when I tried it in the store. When you held it sideways I was surprised. I would have bought the one in the store if it was only that thick
Great Presentation of this particular knife. Thanks for sharing your review on the Provoke. I carry a straight blade knife on my backpack excursions and, as my EDC at work. I like the Provoke knife. You have convinced me that it is best carried with the sheath when one is actively mobile.
I literally just received mine. And was scared to death to open/deploy it... and worried bout closing so i searched videos and found yours!!! I am thinking it’s a little bit harder for a females hands let alone having long nails because you made it look so simple and I do like it I am really weird about having a collection of knives and this is a different one for me and smaller and I wanted to carry it on me! Im hoping I’ll love it as much as you do
I'm looking forward to add the edc Version with a standard blade to my provome compact. It's a bit sad that there's no karambit trainer. that thing would be so fun to use as matial artist. Correction: I found the karambit trainer for 120€.🤤
Tried to carry it in my pocket with the clip attached to the ring... It opened partially on my leg mid-stride after carrying it about half a day. It ended up cutting a slit in my pants pocket. Had to get the holster for it. Then I lost interest due to it being slower than a folder having to come from the holster and then go back in when I was finished cutting. Cool idea, but I can do better.
I hate to do this....but i watched a video with Caswell himself showing the knife off and he said you could deploy it like other knives with the wave feature. But the little paper that came with my Provoke when i opened it suggested you "NOT" do that

How are you liking it 7-8 months in? I was recently looking at this knife after SHOT Show and for as cool and novel as the design is, I haven't seen much past a first impression review. $200 is a pretty steep price if the mechanism is just going to crap out and end up in the bottom of my toolbox. Keep up the great work!
@@jessecalder No problem, thanks for following up! I did some more reading after I watched your video and saw a few others saying that the sheath they make for it now is a must have because they ended up with holes in their jeans as well. Sounds like I need to try and track one down locally to try and test it for myself, otherwise I think I'll wait and see if BHQ or somebody runs a sale on them.
Great presentation. I have a Spyderco Karahawk but may have to get this. I understand a knife would be a very last resort thing I'd never want to use as a defensive tool, but feel better carrying my Karahawk along with pepper spray-- I can't conceal carry a handgun where I live. I think I'll buy this based on your review-- I've watched a ton of other reviews over past couple months but you sold me. Great review.

I'm subscribing. I enjoy your straight forward information. My thought is that this may be a right handers knife for the pocket deployment reason. I had to have this knife. I find CRKT to be quality and I have a few. I carry every day. Carrying this one is special. Thanks for your review
Hey nice video I was going to ask you what you thought about the morphine knives on eBay and Amazon that are about 20 bucks they seem to be the same an unbranded, also I was looking at the fox Karambit but they open as you pull them out and they're far more expensive but I don't know if it's worth it, what design do you think is better the wave or the morphine mechanisms really nice video looking for to the next one have a great summer M&M
If you don't mind me answering... The morphine knives are made by Mtech, which produces relatively low quality knives. They aren't trash, but the blade steel doesn't hold an edge well and the lock strength is questionable. If you are willing to try something other than a karambit, Byrd knives (spyderco's sister company) just released their 'cara-cara' model with a wave opener. They're well-priced, the steel used is good, and the lock is strong. Also, Schrade makes a really cool fixed-blade karambit (sch111) that is budget-conscious, small, and easy to carry in a variety of ways, but still fairly good quality.
Mind you I didn't get into more graphic detail of what what you could do with it but it's pretty obvious if you do some research what and how that is being used I didn't go that far to it.... far as price it was worth it because I have other crkt knives.... quality is really good they had that in mind when they built it... I have others that open really fast but something about this when they appealed to me a little more because of his design...
I see you holding it with the blade exiting the bottom of your hand. Is it comfortable holding it traditionally for opening boxes or do you open boxes and cut everything tactically like it’s threatened your life? Lol
I have an S-Tech folding Karambit. It's sheath makes it deployable in one action. The con is that the blade opens close to the body on a belt clip. I have cut 2 shirts opening it. The Provoke seems to have the same issue. That IS a deal breaker for me. Wanted this knife but safe deployment is big on my list. Great review. I subscribed. 5G is Covid19
I think that thing would be illegal where I live being a flick knife which is $10,000 fine or 10 years in jail (max) and I don't want to chance sneaking it past customs lol. Looks awesome though. Like a raptor claw.
Be careful pulling it out. Some people might think you mean to use it for lethal defense, and you might end up facing a class 2 felony in Dallas. Just saying, I know...

How is it after a year? Is it dull? Any tips on how to sharpen it?
the lock on the grivory handled version is pretty stiff but other than that, i love this knife
Any feedback or advice for a southpaw? Is this an ambidextrous knife?
May I ask what camera you are using? Quality is amazing
Just got this knife today and i have a hole in my pocket today

After a few months of usage, would you recommend this knife for female hands? Thinking of getting this for my wife.
Will this open as easily for left handed peeps?
Has it ever opened in your pocket?

It's a bit sad that there's no karambit trainer.
that thing would be so fun to use as matial artist.
Correction: I found the karambit trainer for 120€.🤤
I'd like to see this mechanism come in other blade shapes and sizes. Looks very cyberpunk and fidgety.
can this open by left hand?
But it’s got to be carried outside the pocket, or drawn with the thumb? How does that make sense?
It keeps the blade from resting directly on top of another piece of metal and therefore doubling the blade.
Cutting seatbelts, rope, boxes, or fingers, and bellies!
Ok, who can advise what the other knife is? I liked the knife you compared in this video.
