    I have the 70-200 F4 Macro G OSS II, and the lens is good, wide open, but best stopped down to about f8. I use the 1.4 x teleconverter on it frequently with great results. I don’t have the 2.0 TC, because it just does not work well with any of my lenses. I primarily shoot stills, and usually f/6.3-f/11. In that range it is as sharp as the 70-200 GM II. I find the colors warmer on the Tamron, but the Sony colors more true-to-life. I don’t find much difference in saturation or contrast. I can see why warmer colors might be more appealing for video.

    Pretty nice comparison. I have had the past 2 Tamron 70-180. Just got the G2 in October 23 and am looking to get rid of it because of something you did touch on for a second. The AF while zooming. Other Tamron lenses have this same issue of jerky tracking. As a photographer if I am using focus tracking and zoom any amount the Tamron will totally lose the focus point and will not refocus on anything. I tested this out on the 2 Gen 2 Sony 70-200 and the tracking is excellent while zooming. I watched so many Tamron 70-180 G2 reviews and I don't recall anyone ever mentioning this... odd... It might not matter to many but I know it will to a few of us :)

    I ordered the Tamron yesterday!! I love how smooth the zoom ring is though. Just plan nice slow or medium zooms to avoid that focus problem. Dude you didn’t even mention the HUGE price difference as an advantage. Great review though thanks!!

    I found a used copy of the Sony on Amazon Warehouse and ended up pulling the trigger. Yeah it was a bit more expensive than the Tamron, but it will definitely hold its value better. and damn what a killer lens. Also. I had major dust issues with previous Tamron telephphoto zoom lens, so I will waist a few years before going back.. Haven't had any major issues with the F4 maximum aperture yet. Shot inside art galleries and museums at acceptable ISOs and added a bit Lightroom AI noise reduction in post.

    Thanks for the video. I’m looking to buy the Sony. It looks like a great option with the teleconverter. But, that Tamron looks good too and the price difference. Lots to thank about.

    Nice comparison, really high quality content!
    Agree with you about white lenses, they bring too much attention...
    Tamron wins with sharpness, bokeh and price, but 0.5x macro @200mm is something unique.

      @hungrydavo 5 месяцев назад

      It's supposed to be for heat, particularly for sports photographers who are outdoors all day for long periods. For most other photographers though, it is a bit unnecessary. 😂 Would be nice if they offered two colour options.

    If you were thinking about getting the Sony for it's macro capabilities with the teleconverter, the Sony 90mm Macro almost costs as much as a teleconverter lol.
    On paper the Tamron sounds like it's macro capabilities are pretty close to the Sony's, but in reality there is quite a bit of difference between the two. Thank you, the comparison in this video made my mind up. Sony G is the right fit for me.

    can you use tubes with 70--200mm for macro?

  • @orion314
    @orion314 7 месяцев назад

    Do you have an experience with the 1.4x TC? I’ll mainly be using the 70-200 for sports, so I’m worried about the loss of F/stop.

    • @blaineburton2070
      @blaineburton2070  6 месяцев назад

      I have not used the 1.4 TC but I think you’d probably be fine with the loss of f/stop. Also depends if you’re doing video or photo, indoors or outdoors, and which camera body you are using. A7S3 should be able to handle most scenarios easily for video

    • @hardywoodaway9912
      @hardywoodaway9912 4 месяца назад +1

      no, but tbh teleconverter are pretty useless. the image quality loss and light loss doesn’t make it much better than just cropping in

    • @JesusChristSaves.
      @JesusChristSaves. 2 месяца назад

      No - and honestly a teleconverter kinda sucks unless you got it for free or really needed the extra length.
