the best tamales come from a woman in a parking lot selling them out of a Igloo cooler.
Rudder Gator This is so universal lmao.
That asks you "cuantos tamales va a querer señor gringo"
Very true.
We have a "Tamale Lady" that comes to our shop near Houston Texas every Wed. Real tamales made with lard. Sometimes pupusas as well!
Rudder Gator you got that right, I think there is a special place in heaven for the tamale ladies.
I actually like these nasty things! Lol! They're nowhere near as good as the real thing, but I usually melt cheese on them and add a little habenero sauce and sour cream.
get the real ones depending on the zise buy ull b good with 2 of em
I take the paper off first and add chopped onion and cheese before nuking. I still like these even though they used to be better. For those saying get the real ones; a lot of us live in areas where no one makes real ones. Besides, it's like spaghetti Os. No one thinks they're really spaghetti, but they taste good anyway.
I'll slather some sour cream over the top too.
Put enough habanero sauce on a truck tire and it will also taste OK. lol
Try getting some wrappers at the store and put some real meat and sauce in there. Tastes better and it's cheap too.
When i worked in the oilfield i use to carry a few cans of those behind the seat. Pop a whole in the lid then set them on the exhaust manifold of a big cat for about 45 min and dinner is ready.
Chris Fisher that's resourceful
My dad was a long haul truck driver. He'd put a can of tamales on the floor board by the dog house in the truck & have a hot dinner when he shut down for the night. lol
I worked heavy/industrial construction. I ate lots of canned guy food too. Besides terrible canned guy food, one other thing I carried was a small supply of sporks and condiments in a ziplock. Don't forget the antacids either. Peace.
They used to taste somewhat better. These modern ones are not good at all.
I've seen Mexicans and Cubans cook entire meals that way, and also with a cutting torch. That's where I learned to cook some delicious juevos rancheros.
I've eaten these for around 50 years. Childhood favorite. I think they're great. As a kid, sucking on the wrapper was a highlight.
If you want good Tamales and can not make them yourself head to the Mexican neighborhood in your town county or state and hit up a lil Mexican market usually they all have bomb ass Mexican grandma made Tamales some even have desert Tamales made with fruit
AxleKlown Luckily I'm Mexican :>
AxleKlown The apple pie ones are good, if you can find them.
Yes boo...I helped my friends from Mexico make savory and sweet tamales...I love the savory best..extra caliente...lol
This.....
My stepfather was mexican, his mom was my grandma, as in the only one I ever called grandma. Every Easter she's spend a couple day making tamales for the family and they were the best! Years later we had an amazing tamale lady who came to our bar and they were so good, just not quite as good as grandmas..
😂😂😂 By the sound of it, his high school crush broke his heart
Yeah man, we've all been there.
Yes, and now he's taking it out on his stomach w this nasty sh!t
ah this was just hilarious, you get better each video bud.
"she was a beautiful girl...BITCH!"
i sincerely hope that English isn't your first language.
May I suggest that you try some authentic homemade tamales sometime. They are delicious. Whatever that was in that can in no way, shape or form represents a real tamale .
lauri robbins not at all, I was almost a little insulted.
lauri robbins Yes, real tamales are to die for.
Kolin Dunn
Fuck you.
+K k Karrot cake bad bitchs, you are know as the stupidest race on God's green planet
Kolin Dunn why do u think white folks are the ones that are doing all the stupid shit especially people from the US
i bought these and personally. i like them!
I remember liking them as a kid about 50 years ago. Like to try again
there is approximately 5-7 tamales in the can, where can I retrieve my Plasticine knife
bland with 900mg of sodium? Holy Shit. lol
They really are they dont really taste like much of anything.
Capn Cummings Here in the US, salt is not a flavor.
They're just kind of mushy. This style of tamale is from the south around the mississippi I learned. People actually make these in machines that wrap ground beef in corn much. Just not actual tamales, not at all.
woah what're you doing here. i just got done watching your iron fist video. quality shit dude
Sodium street lighting would probably taste better.
I actually like these.
I cried watching this, tamales are NOT meant to be canned, just like burgers.
That paper wrapping was cooked in the can, too. Mmmm - cellulose!
These aren't real tamales though
Sometimes we find ourselves in desparate situations, and we take what we can get.
Yes, they are not real Tamales but they aren’t half bad. Particularly when served with some Mac and Cheese.
I agree totally
I Love these things! Lol
Me too! I didn't think I would, but they are so good imo.
I frigging love them they taste great.
Real tamales are worlds better. A long time ago we used to add these canned things to Ro-Tel tomatoes, Velveeta, chopped veggies, and a few splashes of Worcestershire sauce in a crockpot. Really nice queso dip.
Ro-tel and Velveeta?!?!?! Now you have my interest! That would make them taste much better!
I'm 61 been eating these my whole life love them. And potted meat lol
I would suggest real Mexican tamales. not those canned ones.
TheAvidGamer
kmurder02 it was more or less ironic.
As dense as the masa on those canned tamales no? Hahaha!
I would rather, but I'm poor as fuck
:( welcome to my life lol
I need tamales without lard.
Thank you for enduring these. I have been curious for years.
I mean, they're not nearly as good as authentic Mexican tamales, but my daughters and I still love them. A great, quick addition to taco night.
I used to love Tamales in a can, I haven't had them sense I was a kid though. funny commentary Larry!
You are very entertaining and informative. You saved me from a purchase too. Thanks
it's 3 am on a friday night and i've been binging this series alone. it's so addicting.
LOL Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the honest review. I was just thinking of picking some of these up for my preps. Glad I saw this review before I did.
Great review. I grew up on Hormel tamales (my dad loved them) so I'm so used to the way they taste. But the fresh kind out of food truck or taqueria is the best.
wildbilltexas You should try them fresh from nanas house. Even better.
This video was hilarious, also you should try the casoROLE recipe from the can for a video
great to see you having more fun with your commentary.. always good to have a few laughs
the kissing your sister joke and the high school crush skit killed me so much idk why maybe because its 5 am lmao
LOL!! Thanks for watching!!
I actually eat those every once in awhile. Different brand though.
Some generic brands taste pretty good as well
Haha, I actually like these tamales. Now, just how high are my cooking standards? Won't go into that right this moment.
My dad rest his soul was a celebrity chef in the 90s and did promo videos for major oven companies and worked at middlebury college supervising 10 chefs and 100 or so servers for their catering department. We ate great when we went out but you better believe he loved these things.
I cant seem to get enough of this series - im hooked
Pretty funny and gross. I just made some fresh tamales both pork with red chile (not spicy) and cheese with chile. (spicy). really good. I have no idea how you clx possibly put so much crap in your mouth including this. thank you for your sacrifice, ive always wondered how those tasted.
3:48 THAT CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD XD😂!!!
OhSoVeryKawaii i dam near spit soup all over my kitchen when he said that 😂
LOL same!
It's so funny because you know he is just riffing. Not like those other RUclipsr that are reading a written script.
I love your series! Daily videos! All the cans !
I grew up eating the Hormel tamales in a can. I usually add a little Cholula chipotle hot sauce, sour cream, and melted cheese on top. Darn good tasting like a meal!
I've actually had these over the years and about the only way you can enjoy them, is to top them with a good thick homemade chili, sour cream and sharp cheddar cheese. All that will make you forget all about kissing your sister, lol! You were cracking me up Larry!
no joke here I was walking through Kroger the other day and saw these on the shelf and thought "the wolfe pit should review these!" was looking for potted meat to try for the 1st time Kroger doesn't sell it. found potted meat and Treet at Walmart though! potted meat is good stuff Larry! 👌 have yet to try the Treet though
There is a lady that brings homemade fresh tamales to the hospital and sells them to waiting patients, since the wait to see the doctor can take over 6 hours. She is always a blessing to see
LOL awesome video. Comedic and informative. Thanks
I love those!
I think there is a sad story hidden in this video, hehe.
sounds like the OP is just a sad incel
Reading all the cool comments for Mexicans really shows how good of a people you are.
Excellent video!
So damn entertaining and very informative.
Thank you very much Anne!!
My mom wraps her tamales with wax paper as well, I know she makes others with plantain leaves and what not, but hey, if you're ever around the LA area you can pick up some pretty legit tamales just about everywhere even from my mom if you'd like :D
If your in LA good place to getvthem is the northgate market parking lot
I love these. Does that make me trash.
Thanks for the helpful video. It brought back an ancient memory. My mom fixed us tamales in a can in my youth 50 some years ago, to give us a first hand experience with Mexican food. It seems from your taste test that they have kept the taste and texture I sorta remember. Paper too! Count me as a new old man subscriber.
I remember eating those when I was a kid. Derby was the brand they came in a jar with a corn husk wrapper.
The was different because the serving size changed from 3 to 2, with 3 servings per container instead of 2. Probably changed to seem healthier.
Maybe they were lower sodium. I noticed the serving size change allowed them to drop the sodium level to 30% dv.
I've been eating these since I was a kid you need hot sauce and cheese. No they are no where near as good as the made from scratch...but why not...Yum Yum. Thanks.
LOL Thanks for watching!
I am Mexican. But I must say, I do like these. They are a guilty pleasure
You crack me up. Lol love your channel and merry Christmas from Sydney Australia xoxox
LOL Thanks for watching Molly!
Go to a Mexican market and get real tamales. Those gross things in a can I wouldn't even feed them to my dog.
I fed some to my dog and he's dead now. Coincidence? Perhaps. lol
Raven Ghostly Nobody in these comments seems to understand Larry buys and taste tests frozen or canned crap because some people have to eat it. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t have a channel. I’m sure he knows fresh is better!
Dude, get yourself some good homemade tamales. Or, if that doesn't work, get the ones from the deli section at Costco. Should have at least on Cinco de Mayo. My grandfather introduced me to canned tamales. You can eat them, but they are not even close to real tamales.
I am a tamale HOUND ! I have a Mexican buddy at work, Jose, that is the tamale GURU ! He gets off work at 12:30 on Friday night, goes home, and makes about 200 tamales ! They are labor intensive. He's up all night long . Then, on Saturday, he delivers them to people, at their home, for $1.50 a pop ! Individually wrapped in foil. They are the best tamales I've ever had. Piping hot, made with chicken, minced jalepenos, and verde sauce ! I usually buy them by the dozen !
I'm jealous! LOL Thanks for watching!
I actually used to blend these with a can of refried beans for an off the wall dipping sauce.
dont try drunk cause you'll just eat them with the wax paper on , and they'll still taste like generic cat food.
LOL Thanks for watching!
You are and stupid guy
@@romance698 - Try reading your own comment... Now Google the word "Irony".
Those things look nasty Larry.... :)
OldManCooking They're not.
Haha I love the comedy gold hidden in some of these videos. The White Castle rant was pretty epic
I have always been curious about these.
Will you consider making the recipe on the back? That would be a cool video. :D
Larry, I've had tamales in a JAR before, long ago. They looked very much the same as these! I had a little better impression of them though than you did with these. I rather liked the taste! LOL! But I can't stand the thought of kissing my sister, so I will not get any jarred or canned in the future! Great review! Very entertaining!
Juanelo1946 Hirm tamales did used to be available in harsh, haven't seen them in years so I don't know if they're still offered packed that way.
My great grandfather used to love these.
It's almost 4 am and I can't stop.
Bitch....Tramp!! 😂😂 Great video Wolfe!!!!
I see these cans of tamales at the 99 cents store all the time! luckily I can go to Costco and buy real authentic Tamales. Yum!!! :-)
Candace Vaillette *face palm*
Candace Vaillette Real authentic tamales at costco...
Authentic tamales at COSTCO?
I’ve had a many times and they’re not always that great but I found if you cook them in a skillet and reduce the sauce down the sauce thickens up and they come out a little bit better
😂😂😂 hilarious and loving your videos. Tasting the food so we don't have to
After pumping out all those videos, I said to myself, I hope he didn't kill over from that junk.
So, this is like eating canned ravioli or spaghetti, with a little spice.
Dean Logan they're not even that good.
i thought that was the only way ravioli was made... in cans... what i been eating lol
alfredo osorio
canned hell
Yeah, I tried this once before. I thought the tamales had no taste too, but I did like the sauce.
"Kids crumbled up homework assignment"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
OK...You got it wrong! Canned tamales from Hormel(formerly 'Derby' in a
jar.) are AWESOME. What you need to do is make yourself a Tamale salad!
mine is made this way:
1 Can of Hormel tamales
1 can of Wolf Chili( It is a Conagra brand--sorry Hormel, you suck since
you got all watery)
1 tomato diced
shredded lettuce
shredded cheddar
tortilla chips- I use 'Donkey' brand chips since they have less salt
and no gluten, and are very good.
Whether you are drunk or high, this 6 dollar investment feeds 2 fat guys
easily....... burrrrrrrrrrrrrp. Oh.....dump the 'sauce' in
your sink to clean your pipes/disposal- that is where all the fat is
anyway.
BTW, despite having Mexican friends and their gracious moms cooking, the
best tamales I ever had came from a Styrofoam cooler in South Padre. 3
bucks got me 6...and man........were they soooo good.
LOL Thanks for watching!
Bring back the Wolf logo
Can't.....:-(
TheWolfePit why?
WHY?????????????????????????
I had some yesterday and today. Yesterday I heated them in the oven. They were okay. Today, I fried the leftovers with some can chili. I also ate two eggs with them. They tasted much better fried.
1 salt 2 red chilie sauce 3 cheddarjack shredded cheese. this is how you eat tamales, and the comment about getting them from a parking lot cooler is spot on
6 tamales
Where's my premium knives?
WINNER WINNER TAMALE DINNER! LOL Thanks for watching!
In the mail!
TheWolfePit haha, you're videos are awesome!
That's a very sad tamale.
canned tamales were spicier in the 70's and were quite popular in my hometown. some restaurants had them on the menu and my school had them on the hot lunch menu. you're supposed to unwrap them cold, arrange them in a baking dish just big enough for the tamales and sauce, then cover with shredded cheese and bake them in a hot oven for 20 minutes or so until the top is browned and bubbly.
Came across an interesting frozen food item, has to be a miracle honestly!!
Sending you pics on facebook!
i'm more of a jamaican patty guy mon
Geo Belmont those are amazing as well.
Sarah T yes they are, it's hard to beat a good chilli beef patty
Geo Belmont it really is.
Sarah T i did try a curried lamb one tho, it wasn't very nice...
Geo Belmont that sounds good, I've made a curry beef one before with carrots. It was really good.
omg as a Mexican this video offended me. these tamales are nothing near the real stuff.
Don Parmesan Dude, come down! My ex wife, who is Mexican, did a terrible thing to my pastrami--she added jalapeno peppers. Cultures augment other cultures food.
Love this series! Please keep it up.
Thanks Alissa!!!
hey wolfe love the new profile pic and intro!! oh and the vid is pretty good too!!! cheers
I love these!!!! They are delicious in my opinion!!!!
I can see where the wax paper was terrifying at first 😂
Authentic tamales, made with love ..are out of this world
In Southern California, there's always a lady screaming TAMALES every morning in the corner of every block and sells them off a big cooler. The flavors were either chicken, pork, beef, and cheese. My dad still buys them and usually offer me a few.
Woh! Over 100,000 subs. Congratulations! That part when you said "bitch" made me laugh so hard. You're hilarious.
Growing up my dad would randomly bring home fresh tamales that would be sold on the corner in So Calal. They were always so good! When we moved to Nor Cal we bought frozen ones and I was so sad about how bad they tasted. Wrapped in plastic/wax over corn husk was the first part I noticed. I've had these before and they reminded me of the frozen ones. Fresh is the only way to go!
I bought some canned tamales once a while back. Ate them with some 90 second rice. I also got some much bigger tamales at Mexican Fiesta. Now those were truly something special.
I love these things... 😍 prefer in the glass jars ! I can't find them in my area stores anymore 😥
Hahaha.... I love you!! I laughed so hard! Your humor is the best! Your awesome!
These are really good it’s the way you cooked them.
Larry, I used to love these many years ago. I saw them several years back and decided to try them again. Just like you, I thought they were basically flavorless, except for that prevailing "Hormel taste" that is in everything they make. I think you will find that they are wrapped in something more like parchment paper and not waxed paper. You can actually by tamale paper wraps on line so I guess it's not uncommon these days to make homemade tamales with paper wraps instead of corn husks.
Another interesting video! Thanks!
love hormels tamales , on a cold winters day with a can of chili on top and onions...yum... and pepper
Im in San Antonio we just made a few dozen on sunday of tamales. Im so happy right now
I actually love these specific tamales in a can
A+ on the comedy for this episode.
These are the only ones Ive ever had and I love them. Can eat the entire can in a sitting.
😂😂😂Love your videos & humor!! I actually ate these a LOT as a kid but can't stand them now. I make the real thing cuz it's worth it!
