I read an article back in the 1980s that explained how almost all of the foods in the grocery store were repackaged and commercialized versions of military rations developed during world war two and the early years of the cold war.
Even boil in bag meals were adaptations of developments at Natick labs when they were creating the new MRE rations. Frozen foods, canned foods, dehydrated or reconstituted meats and vegetables, etc.
A stray cat would not eat that shit that came out of a can disgusting.
Definitely a possibility.. or just developed for people who want to hold onto an emergency food supply for one reason or another.

Let me give you my two cents: Your pronunciation of "Worcestershiresauce" was spot on. Nowhere on the can does it say anything about chocolate powder (Schokoladenpulver or Kakaopulver in German). It doesn't look very appetizing, I give you that, but since it's made in Germany and we have some of the most strict laws worldwide when it comes to food, I'd eat it without any hesitation whatsoever. When a country exports a food they usually only have to obey the countries food laws that they're exporting to, some European countries will sell high fructose corn syrup or other foods that are illegal, restricted, or just unwanted in the EU. Coke for example sells real sugar sodas outside the US and uses High Fructose Corn Syrup locally. There are/were some canned burgers made and/or marketed in the US that had similar ingredients. They dont need many flavor enhancers or preservatives since they use a shelf stable bread, fake cheese, and a metric shitload of salt and the whole thing is extremely dry to the point that it's basically 2 crackers with a piece of jerky between them with most of the "moisture" coming from all the fat and oil in the burger and cheese. That's actually the reason that McDonalds burgers can sometimes go weeks, months, or years without getting moldy: they have so much salt and so little moisture once they dry out that the meat is basically jerky and anything salty and dry enough is essentially immune to mold and bacteria (fortunately dad's are immune to salt poisoning and have evolved to hunt and devour insanely salty foods like these keeping their population in check).

WHy do they put the burger in the can all together? Imagine if everything was separated. Bread vacuum sealed, sauce in packets, etc. Then you just open the can and put it together. It might not be the best burger in the world but it'd be a lot better than this slimy mess.

True they should also include a mini portable grill and some pickles and ketchup packets and a side of fries and maybe a large soda and a #3 also. These aren’t for everyday consumption. They are for times where you need tightly packed and long lasting meals for travel or emergencies. Go to McDonald’s if you have the time and space to do all that.

If anything it would probably be smaller. And for emergency consumption and long travels it would be especially important that the food stays edible. Wet bread isn't a good at staying shelf stable. It can become a breeding ground for bacteria extremely easily.

They needed 2 cans, one for meat and condiments, one for the bun. I find the idea of a canned burger kind of intriguing, but maybe vacuum wrapped would have been better.
I saw 1 version of this that had a pretty neat idea: it had wax paper to separate the buns so they stayed dry and you just put the patty back together after opening. Buns looked dry but I think a dry bun is better than a soggy bun and grease from the meat can rehydrate the bun a bit. putting a sauce packet inside would also be a good idea.
