Geez people, Mom is keeping it real and keeping little tummies filled. Lighten up. If the kids want to call it SOS, let them, you didn't invent it! And frankly it's the same concept. A brown liquid on a lighter substrate. You're an excellent Momma and this was a great video. God bless you.

The little helper is all grown up now. Let me tell you, she can cook! I’ve become disabled and I can’t walk without my walker or some assistance.
I’m so glad that she has an interest in cooking.
She makes the best apple pancakes. I let her have free rein in the kitchen.
She went between cookbooks & RUclips tutorials on the computer & she came up with good recipes.
About 2 or 3 years ago I gave in and we got cell phones.
She would prop her phone up & go between RUclips & Tik Tok for her recipes.
She has a natural talent! She can make eggs in every style & her bacon 🥓 always comes out perfect.
I feel very blessed to have her!
She can also do yard work. She gutted it out with me so the pool area looked tropical.🌴
I never had one thought I’d be in a wheelchair & have to rely on my family to help me get my shoes on!
I don’t know what I’d do without my angel! 😇

SOS was always made with chipped (not ground) beef, a milk-based gravy, and served over toast (the "shingle") -- not mashed potatoes. This recipe might be good, but it's not SOS.

@@BobG127 well it’s what I grew up on. My momma, & both of my grandmas made it that way. Everyone here in South Texas makes it that way. I do like the sound of your recipe and I’m surly going to give it a try. It sounds delicious.

I’m 61, and as a child this wasn’t made at home but it was served at school in the hot school lunch monthly. (It was my favorite) So I learned to make it as a young adult, and made it for my kids-it’s been a family favorite ever since. I love how your little daughter was sitting off to the side, I have no doubt the tradition will live on with her. (I use milk, that’s the only difference)

@@michellejoy6752 She’s 15 now & if you could custom order a child it would be her! In 2020 everything fell apart.
I lost a life long friend so suddenly that the stress caused me to get Bell’s palsy. The left side of my face is paralyzed. She made foods that were easy for me to eat. She was 11 at the time. She hoped on RUclips & took over my kitchen.
She has her school work done early. I have an old Casio piano that I got as a gift 26yrs ago. I don’t know how to play. She asked if she could have it & I said yes.
She sat in front of the tv & learned how to play. And she’s a natural! Between her yummy soups and her music I was in heaven.
In November 2020 my bby brothers 4yr old son was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
I was devastated bc we are very close. One morning I woke up and my knees gave out & I face planted into the wall.
Once I got to the ER I told them that I think it’s mental bc of the bad news of my nephew.
Turns out I have a tumor in my knee & both knees lost blood circulation and my knee bones died.
I stayed in my wheelchair bc my brothers kids had to move in with me. We’re neighbors & our kids go to the same school.
Finally, that strong boy pulled through and beat cancer.
Last year I had my 1st knee replacement and this year I had my 2nd which I’m still recovering.
My daughter can clean & cook with perfection! She also plays the violin. She’s in 1st chair which is a big deal. And at every concert she gets a solo. I cry every time! She’s my star ⭐️
Our town picks 30 students a year to receive a cosmetology degree. She was chosen.
So she can do hair, play the piano, play the fiddle, cook & clean!
I feel privileged that I get to be her mom! She’s truly talented and a beautiful soul!

Looks wonderful! I would add a half a teaspoon of dry mustard, it’ll just give it a little more flavor without actually tasting it all like mustard or anything or a little bit of Worcestershire sauce. Instead of corn, a green vegetable would be much more healthy And better for the kids as they’re growing up. You’ve got all that flower, all that grease and mashed potatoes, which is plenty of fat and carbs, you really need it vegetable or two especially for the kids to develop well. You look like a great cook, it might be helpful too. See a nutritionist.

The meal looks great but watching you with that fork in that pan about killed me. Do you even have a coating left... Agghh

      Jessica Ş surprisingly I do
I did have a plastic fork but it melted in my last brown gravy dish. I guess it was too thin. Idk so after throwing out that dish, I switched to metal. I coat my pans well.

Julie On The Real You inspired me tonight either way and I made shepards pie. I've recently switched to all cast iron. It's hard for me to get use to being able to use some metal again.

      Jessica Ş whats Shepherds Pie?

Julie On The Real it's Pretty much what you made here... But after you get the hamburger gravy made the way you did you add two cans of mixed veggies or frozen if that's what you have. Heat it up and then grease a 9x13 pour your gravy beef veggie mix in the bottom. I top this with a little American slice cheese here then add mashed potatoes on top and top again with shredded cheese. I like cheddar and then I also always top that with mozzarella because it gets browned and stringy the best. Bake for about 30 minutes at 350 to 375 so it's all nice and browned. Let it sit and then serve. I think it's actually called cottage pie when made with beef.
