So I'm going to address this now because I've gotten a lot of comments:
Heaven and Hell don't exist in Death Note. The creator of the manga himself confirmed this.
DuoReview okay but ryuk clearly says the light can not enter heaven nor hell when would he say that if there was none
Ryuk likes to say things that lead light to jump to conclusions. Saying light would go to neither heaven or hell isn't a lie if they don't exist at all.

@@davidaleksak3124 yep. were all in the same boat haha. After L died, i wasnt as excited for the next episodes. It seems like the writers just wanted to stretch the show out without it making so much sense. I dont care for the idea of near and mello. I can say, however, that everything from the beginning of the show to L's death was masterfully written. RIP L, and RIP Light.

For me Death Note ended when Light killed L, not because I agree, (though I really like Light, he is the protagonist after all), but because I hate how he was defeated by Near and Mello, they appeared out of nowhere and their win didn't feel deserved, it was L vs Light from the beginning and it should had been how it ended
Agreed I hated how they killed off Light hey let's shoot him to death and let him bleed out until he loses consciousness and drifts away into the abyss!
Yeah, I loved Light, and I wasnt the biggest fan of L, but I wouldve been fine if either one of them won, but Near just ruined the whole show for me.

For those of you saying that the real show ended when L died, I agree and I honestly took a break from watching because I was so wrecked over that, however, after thinking it through I realized a few things:
- L dying was a stepping stone in Light's character development, he got lazy and overconfident. He already had childish characteristics, as L pointed out for us, and Light defeating L set him over the edge. He became so certain of his abilities and believed that if he could kill L, nothing could stop him.
- The end plot of the anime was undoubtedly Light losing and his twisted perception of the world was never meant to be created, I think we all realized that subconsciously when even after so many years, Light still had to use the notebook to kill criminals and fit his "New World".
- When L died, it gave the plot a route to end Light by using his confidence to be beaten by Near and Mellow, it wasn't as satisfying as if L were to get him, but it makes sense.
Side note: Towards the last few minutes of the anime where Light saw his psychotic-self run past his "normal" or "good" self, it really broke me and I, for some twisted reason, wanted him to find happiness.
When he ran past his old self i want that to be symbolism for his soul going to nothingness and the shell of himself turning into shinigami. Then new season he can come back and twist the mind of some human to continue his world plan. At some point his soul and the shinigami side wrestle as he finally sees tbe error in his ways but all too late

The only thing that really bugs me is the fact that the task force didn't figure out that light was kira after L died. L explained exactly what he thought lights plan was as kira (give someone else the notebook, lose memory...) and the only thing contradicting the theory is the 13 day rule. When L tries to test that rule he immediately dies and insead of arresting light or at least suspecting him they make him the head of the kira investigation.
I think the big problem to that was that at the end of the day nobody was aware of the memory lost effect of the Death Note.

No because they didn't know that memories come and go depending on who owns the notebook so when Lights dad did the whole execution fake bid to see if he was really Kira or not that made the team believe he wasn't

The shinigami that is believed to be light even has a bag similar to the one light had at school. It also has goggles. The goggles are important because unlike other death note users he didn’t get the eyes of the shinigami and the goggles could symbolize that
I'm stealing this from someone else, but the goggles are also flying goggles, and Light once said (or joked), that he'd rather have shimigami wings than eyes.
Its not just the theory, Ryuk confirms that Light is now a Shinigami by calling him Light at the end of the first retelling, when the other Shinigami, who came to listen to the story, already left after the first half of story was complete.

I think he says Light as a sort of reference to him/talking to his memory, instead of the shinigami. But I would be lying if I didn’t think the same thing. Matter of perspective and what you find more enjoyable as an ending

The funniest part is that every character in the show is in a moral gray, so honestly it could be that he's the most determined hero to some as well. XD

The ending was really off. For someone who predicted every event so accurately it makes no sense for him to be caught, let alone die. Light should’ve just told Mikami to write all the names down in his fake notebook so that he could show him Near’s real name and kill him after the meeting.
The only reason he lost is because of his writers mistake. If the guy he had writing in the book never took that 2nd trip light probably would have won.
or, even better, just take the notebook you think is real, write everyone's name down, wait for 40 seconds, if nobody dies, just write light's name as well..... easy
because killing near right after the meeting will only raise their suspicions against light
@@jenre6903 Even if the notebook didn't kill them on the spot, I doubt Mikami would add Lights name in there regardless of whether or not he realises the book is fake (which no one noticed until Near spoke on it) based on how much he worships Light, so risking Lights death wouldn't seem like him. Plus if you're writing it down, notice something is off and then put Lights name last in the notebook it could seem obvious that his name was thrown in last to raise less suspicions.

If L had won it wouldn’t be that interesting anymore I love the way the writer twisted the story made it more sufficient and added more characters that support and help kira(light). M and N went through the same training as L. Everything the writer did made a lot of sense to me cause it light had been defeated by L who would be his successor cause no much people are smart like light to use the death note and still be free like light
I just finished watching the anime. I like how it ends with purple skies and scenery, the combination of Light's red and L's blue colors, a return to balance.

I felt so bad for Matsuda. He trusted Light and truly believed he wasn’t Kira. But when Light was finally confronted and proven that he was Kira, it absolutely broke Matsuda. He was crying on his knees and he was finally able to see Light for who he truly was, a crazed serial killer. He saw Light laughing at all the things he’d done, calling his dead father a fool for failing to catch him, and you can tell Matsuda did not want to shoot and kill Light, we saw Matsuda feel guilty for doing so. Matsuda saw Light as a brother, and was horribly betrayed by him.

But they can't remember their previous lives,however,they can still feel it. That could explain why Shinigami Light was urged to go to the Human Realm,but he didn't know why,he just wanted to.

I think light knew or atleast believed at the possibility that when he would died he would be transformed into a shinigami. In the scene where he got exposed in the end he told near and the others that they couldn't kill kira, kill the god of the new world. Even though it could be him being cocky as always. But I strongly believe that he is now a shinigami and therefore continue his plan. If that's the case then Light won at the end
It's possible shinigami in the show, represent their past appearances. The new Shinigami, has red eyes, similar to how Lights would glow red during his insane killing scenes. The black outfit represents Lights suit that he wore before dying.
I've always seen it as a possibility of their being life gods aswell, however the death gods & life gods are merely under a higher power out there.
It's very possible that Ryuk could be Adam from the Bible or share some similarity to him, as the apple was the "forbidden fruit" and even though Eve eats it, it's similar.
Also in the chapter about the 'Eye Deal' Ryuk said "Don't worry Light, you're already a fine Shinigami"

The ending was really hard to watch, although Light is technically the villain, he definitely grows on the audience, I guess it just goes to show that the road to hell is paved with good intentions
I disagree when I got to the ending I was just excitedly waiting for his death since he became a manipulative monster.

I feel like they down played Light after L died
Light was more emotionless than L.
Misa loved him but he never loved her back.
Even L showed some of his grief before he was about to die, he cleaned his feet with towel.
When he died. Show was over for me. There was no point seeing further because L deserved to solve the case more than anyone.
I kept watching because I hoped Light wins atleast. I mean, he won, he killed L but then some random fkin characters (Near+Mello) appear and shit on him? Nah, Light OR L should have won. Nobody else. Or end the show after he killed L and don't even introduce so-called "successors"

Merciless Freak I didn’t like near and it had nothing to do with him getting light killed. That should have been obvious that that was going to be the conclusion. I just think near was a bland meh character that was just brought in to conclude the show. He just wasn’t as Likeable as L was imo. After L died I think that show just wasn’t as good.
I actually cannot express the moment when Light was dying. We see L there like he was a soul Roaming and watching Light all the time. The feeling I saw L there was I can say is heartbreaking.

Light yagami returns to earth as a shinigami ( god of death ) and gives HIS notebook to a highschool student just like him who must have admired kira. He tells The new deathnote owner how he did things and warns him and etc, then Light the god of death and the new protagonist create a better world ..👍👍
This is my story i made up . I hate mello and near . They appeared out of nowhere and beat light . Atleast L did most of the work himself, near just depends on others...I hate the ending and this can be a new anime I hope .
The moral of the story is that you can’t create a perfect world. And a human cannot be a god.it would send the wrong message if it ended differently

I think the ending was perfect, it would've made no sense if Light won just like that, it would've been bold af, and wouldn't fit the story.

Riuk literally implies that Heaven and Hell exist in the first episode when he explains to Light that someone who uses the Notebook cant go to either... So yeah they kinda do exist
Bro they said in one of the rules that all humans that die expierience nothingness ryuk only said that to throw off light he won’t say anything that will help him And then he also said by using the death note he would have something to look forward too after he dies employing the only way he could get an after life is if he used the note
I’ll admit the writer could have changed his mind later in the show but it’s definitely been confirmed
@@Proto7 Nothing is stopping him from lying to his teeth, he just wanted a literal fun. Also having heaven or hell does not cheat since none could ever return from the afterlife.
My theory is that perhaps, humans who have used the death note basically reincarnate as shinigami, without any memory of their life as humans. They might retain a few of their longings from their previous lives as shown by how they tend to like certain specific foods, and show clear cut emotions

things that bug me about the show:
- light's dad died thinking light wasn't kira
- It was L vs Light from the beginnning and near character was a filler to end the show and it could've been more interesting if the task force themselves completed what L left behind or the damn writers could've figured something out.
- The lack of thoughts near put into the investigation. He literally juts cracked the code out of nowehere, yes ik he's soo smart and everything but L actually did reasoning and thought of reasons. The whole time i was ocnfused how the heck is even near figuring out everything with no clues whatsoever.
- L suspected light for pretty much the whole first half of the show and admitted that to the task force. But the task force never took that into consideration but when Near told Aizawa to call him and stuff they suddenly became suspicious of light and Misa. Like what even?

EXACTLY, also Mikami made a mistake that was completely out of his character to do so? like that is the most though out person in the show, considering how Light became more careless all of the sudden and even when the Death Note was indeed swapped, the fake copy was perfect? No way! there is no way Mikami didn't notice at least a single flaw to the fake, he was checking it every day and one cannot copy someone's handwriting over and over again without making a single mistake...when Near explained that I was so confused, that was so far fetched to me!? how did they even get the real Death Note from someone's safety deposit, can FBI's/CIA even does that without consent or evidence which they had neither???

bro i literally finished it 5 minutes ago and wow i’m in aw. the way light died and when he was getting shot so many times gave this weird feeling of being sad. i wish something could have happened with maybe ryuk giving him his life. but overall this was an amazing anime so well written. just felt it was stretched after L died.

I honestly feel that deep down L still believed that Light Yagami was Kira, even in his dying moments which is why he was training his succesors for the case...L doesn't like to be wrong, so even though he died he was not going to let this die.
This makes a lot of sense considering that this show has a lot of heavy references to the Bible. So did Rem purposely give her death note to Misa so that they can be together in the shinigami world?

As I think about it, this theory makes sense for a character like Light, considering his God-complex. He does end up becoming the kind of God he always wanted to be, but the consequences of someone of his constitution* using the Death Note was to be in the same position as Ryuk and the other Shinigami: distant, immortal, and bored for the next several centuries.
*I mention his constitution because I thought I had read (or heard of) an event that happened after the end of the series, where a Shinigami tried to do what Ryuk did with another human being and that human died because they couldn't handle the Death Note (it was also a way to show that Light and Misa were unique in that they had the will and mentality that made them being able to handle killing people with the Death Note).
I can't remember if it was something that happened at the end of the manga or not though (and it's been years since I've fully watched the anime)... ^^;

They rushed it. The author ran out of amazing ideas of how they resolve things. First when Near went full avatar mode and has randomly knew that Mikami, was X-Kira is a big stretch, also Mello helping Near catch Kira was total bullshit, Mello was so serious on not working with Near like there was no possibility of Mello changing his mind! And last one! Near tamepring with both books is nearly impossible to do, especially when they are really aware they might indeed do something like that they were checking it too with a magnifying scope everyday if they tampered it, and the real notebook was in a bank deposit right?, the agent just opened someone elses deposit box casually took it and tampered it and returned it. Completely bullshit. You gotta admit that was literal bullshit. Also Mikami making a mistake, was not possible, he is thorough and precised, he was following orders amazingly. Kira did not need to orders to know what he needed to do. He magnificently anticipated what he would want. Kira directed him not to do anything 3 days before the meeting, so the mistake wouldnt be possible in the first place. I felt like the anime was rushed and dashed. He was beaten in the most mediocre way. Im not complaining the anime was awesome, death note is without a doubt a complete masterpiece. 9/10. the ending made it 9/10.

Actually if you read the manga, from the part Near appeared, it is shown that he was doing all the research for this case on his own and was able to derive many conclusions. So he was not that bad a character.

Actually, the protagonist is the main character you follow through out the series and the antagonist is the character who is trying to stop the protagonist goal. It means little to nothing who is the good and bad guy. It's easy to think that the protagonist is the good guy and the antagonist is the bad guy because that is how most stories use them as. Light is the protagonist despite being known as the evil one. Another series where the protagonist is the bad guy is Breaking Bad for example.

You need to watch Legend Of The Galactic Heroes. If you want an awesome story with amazing characters development, then you will forever grateful after you're done with the anime. It is a 80's anime, so the quality might not be you're cup of tea but the story is second to none.
At the end when Light looked up at the ceiling I was hoping Misa was looking down from one of those cracks and writing down their names. But after Light says Misa where are you? I knew it was over. I was hoping there would've been a extra scene at the end with Light as a Shinigami and saying, "just as I planned". And there would have been an extension where LIght goes into the human world and drops the death note. That would have been amazing and interesting to watch.
So this means that Misa, Mikami and Mello have also become shinigamies right now!
In the brand new one-shot chapter of death note which takes place a few years after the death note series ended, it is basically confirmed that light did not become a shinigami after he died.

This was an anime that I just never really knew what would happen.
Like, most movies/books/shows, you have a pretty good idea of what’s gonna happen by the end. This, you had no idea until the end of the last episode.

At the end of death note relight 1 when ryuk was talking to the unamed shingami he said "go n see if you're lucky someone amazing will pickup the death note n you'll get to see something interesting that you'll never forget isn't that right.... Light?" That means the unnamed shingami was none other than light to whom ryuk was talking to.
