Hello I’ve been watching your videos a and I had a question what tint would you recommend for beginners to also use for customers I’m in California I’ve.been looking at Tint Depo .
Ordered some tint from Amazon for $30 that was precut already, got some bubbles on my first try, a hair dryer didn't work so I'm gonna remove it and try again, nice tips
Dude I was trained by somebody who ONLY tints if he can pull the sweep which bit me in the ass and eventually got me fired from my first tinting gig (I broke a door panel) so now here I am feeling like I’ve never tinted before completely changing the way I work by two staging it’s hard but for sure a great Tip man!
As a new tinter, I was taught to pop the top of the door panel slightly out and pull the seals. I need to start practicing without taking it out though.
Solid advice! I've learned a lot from watching your videos over the last year. Definitely helped me up my tint game. Thanks continuing to put out solid content!
This is very helpfull man. as I replied just on another one of your videos. It is a bit of a lot information in the beginning like tinters say, remove the whole window, do this, do that... but it is such a mountain to start then. I have done 2 professional trainings and now I think I am ready to start really focussing on results. Have had a training with a bunch of fleet tinters that do everything on the car even in very bad enviromental conditions and did a training with a single installer with the phylosopy to remove windows and strips, wash down the whole window and precut everything on a cutting table... both I think have the same endresult, but both also said that there is no other way then their way. Gues that this is applyable to every profession. Some window washers will say the cleanest way is with a telescopic washer and the other one says the only way is with oldschool sponge and soap... result is the same. Both have a great way of reaching the same endresult. The fleettinters that dont remove a thing say that every removal of any car material has a chance of doing unwanted damage to the vehicle and the other private tint instructor in my second training told that you will scratch the glass if you dont cut on a cutting table but need to remove the glass en demount the whole B-style of the door... Both very logic, but also very not logic. What you said. It is a really simple proces that can be made very hard with a kind of bizar philosophies. It is the way of understanding what you are doing and why you are doing it, also what happens if you do it just a bit different in stead of just applying what a lesson or instructor said and dont ever understand why you do what you do and also be in big trouble if the practic situation is a bit different than you learned and you never had the space to did a bit of improvising. Thank you for this man!
Mate, great ideas for keeping panel and gasket on the cars. But, do you ever have problems with those cars e.g. Honda Civic Type R 2011 with tiny little gap on the gasket rubbers? Is the method without remove any thing from the cars still can achieve the wonderful reslut? Cheers
I too the window totally out of my truck since I was doing speakers and it was 2 extra bolts I cleaned it nice and thought man I’m gonna do a good job. Got it on and all together and I looked at my window and there was so many bubbles in there 😂
Hi, so many tinters here, I have a question. What do you people spray on the outside window to apply the tint for cutting the right size? Just normal soapy water? But tintstuff uses something else? I also want to use a heatgun to make it look better? Thank you

Hey man, I have a question. At the moment I do not have a location on where to tint and sadly there is too much dust that ALWAYS ruins my tint. By any chance do you happen to know of a tent or simple set up that is easy to put up and take down that can benefit someone doing it in a driveway. Keeping in mind the tent should be around the size of 1 car. So not that big?
jakey9023 I actually got myself a big Tent! It’s a Keymaya Ez Pop Up Canopy Tent 10x20. I also purchased ABCCanopy Instant Canopy Sunwalls, 6 in total. Lastly I got some weights to keep it down incase there is wind. It was around a $400 investment but it paid itself off in 2 cars, super fast. It seems like a hassle but it’s super easy to take it down, by yourself I’d say around 20min to out it up and to take it down.
I think the key here is to understand that the 5 tips aren’t bad to do but they are bad if u are just starting out. Simplicity is key when learning this technical art, only once u have learned how to successfully install with the basic steps I should concern yourself with tricks to make things easier.
Been tinting six months now. Im still so slow like 4 1/2 ours on a car slow plus I'm mobile. Do you tape on cars with felt gaskets? Mercedes kill me anyway with how tight the gaskets are let alone tape. I've thrown some things...
😂 I've thrown things too, it's very frustrating in the beginning. first year is always the hardest. No I don't tape anything. Painters tape has always been annoying for me. A much thinner plastic would work better. I think I saw people mention sheathing tape?
A detailed video of side window install with felt seals would be a good one. Specifically keeping trash out of the sides when two-staging. I've attempted not taping but always get tons of specks from the felt
I spent around 5 hours and went through probably around 35 feet plus of film trying my first job last week. I have yet to have a successful tint job, or window for that matter.... Would you recommend just sticking it out and accepting small imperfections? I am a perfectionist and it drives me crazy when I see a small crease, small gap or contamination in the film.
i've done it 3 times in my life - last time on what i figured was super easy small windows - driver side came out perfect and i ended up with some line creases on the passenger side right where i'll be looking through at the side view mirror. don't have the patience to do this. in future i'd rather pay a pro to do it
Your really my inspiration I’m trying to start my own tint business and watching your videos has helped me so much I started to learn when I got my car tinted at a local shop and it looked horrible so I’ve been practicing and I ordered my first rolls of film to start thank you for your videos and tips 👍
I'm a bottom loader myself. Learned two staging first and did it for a year then learned to bottom load. I immediately got cleaner results bottom loading then I ever did two-staging. Most panels simply pull from the top enough to remove the sweep. Extremely rare that a panel needs to be removed to get the sweep out.
This is a little long winded but bear with me. I think the 2 stage was the better choice in the beginning. I wouldn't say it's all that rare when a door needs to be taken apart but even so, there are just cars certain people (including myself) wouldn't want to take apart. In those cases you need to 2 stage and if you spent all the time in the beginning learning only how to tint with the sweeps out, then you are sorta fucked when you can't. So even if this was the harder recommendation in your case, I'm glad you know both 😁 You have more than enough experience 2 staging to know what works well for you, also you learned one method before trying something else.

Your video help Me I want to start a mobile tinting service thinking of getting a 10 x 15 pop-up canopy with four sides to help minimize the air around the vehicle what are your thoughts on something like that I can use all the input to help
It's not that it can't work but it definitely makes things more challenging. I worked with a guy that had a full portable tent setup and even used it in winter time. The most difficult part is the logistical nonsense that comes along with running around. setup, tear down, talk to customers, find a workspace and then worry about the weather being too windy so the tent doesn't blow away or you add weights. also they are usually one off jobs so after you do one you have to pack up and go somewhere else and do it all over. Mobile for me is working with an existing auto or glass company that wants to add window tinting as an extra service. they give you space and line up jobs ahead of time and you come in, knock everything out, collect a check and then have another place lined up for another day. course they take a cut for managing those things but the extra work they are supposed to line up more than takes care of their cut in comparison. there are pros and cons to both, would make a good topic for a video. hope this helps some.
right after a tint job, you will have small water pockets as the film dries out. but if it's had a chance to dry and you have white specs/air bubbles, those won't go away and usually needs to be redone. there might be a few specs here or there but if you have bunches of them, I'd get it redone.

Great tips, although, I don't think calling people stupid is a great way to get views on the video. Great tips, though, and, really, if I had no audio at all, you do such a great job of recording the tint job that I would learn without anything being said. What people have to realize is: your good and tinting because of the techniques you use, and those techniques are always very visible. Because of the way you have the GoPro strapped to your head it's like looking through your eyes when your doing the whole process! I haven't attempted to tint my truck yet, but I think I will do well when I do, and I will definitely use some cheap Auto Zone film when I do it. It will actually be my third attempt. Because I tried it a couple of times back in 2015 or 16. I didn't have a clue then, but I think I have a chance at it this time around because of watching some of your videos and old live streams. Thanks for sharing the videos, Matt! oh, yeah, I would definitely go online to Sun Distributing and get some basic tools before attempting it! You're only going to do as good as the tools you have to work with; that may not be completely true for someone who's been doing it for years, but a beginner like me needs every advantage he can get. I'm glad I found your channel, Matt! Thanks again!
Great video! I dove right in and tried a clear ceramic on my front windows and I do need to do it over but I know what I did wrong and I will do better next time. Last night I did a friend's tow truck with lexen and it came out great! Thank you for all your info and tips dude, I'm learning a lot from you.

I know this post is relatively old but I HAVE to live up to this. I try to do other techniques, steer from what I’ve been taught, and etc. K.I.S.S. RUNSSS in my head and saves my ass and keeps me from running crazy lol
I bought some Some Carbon X 2% from tintdepot a couple weeks ago and I’ve had a lot of trouble with it as I am new to tinting. What a coincidence tho, I’m trying to figure out where I’m going wrong and I actually find a guy sponsored by them.
I can’t get the film to shrink well and I’ve done my side windows 3 times each now, each time, a day later tiny fingers and mini bubbles start popping up in the film. Please help me out!!
Check out SunDistributingDirect.com I know they have done it but it's expensive and you have to wait for a boat to get filled up before it leaves the main land.
Tried to get my tint business going a couple of years ago, even worked for a higher end tint shop but got discouraged after tinting for over a couple years when my tint jobs weren't professional looking. Some cars came out nice while others looked decent, nothing great. Your advice is good but sometimes your dream isn't something you can achieve
Don’t look at it as a negative there are people who just tint and don’t care about the finish but the fact that you actually care says ALOT. I know how you feel man I’ve been trying to get jnto car wrapping and tinting and it’s hard but at the end of the day none of these people got it down from one day to another or from one month to another it comes from years of practice you just have to keep your head up and keep it grinding cause in the end it’ll work out fine 💪
I’ve been tinting for a few months now and am getting pretty clean installs. I always remove the door panels, but I also am really good at it considering I am also a mechanic and have done it plenty of times before. I tried to tint without removing the gasket and I fail miserably lol so I just always remove them 🤷🏻♂️
Last shop I worked at they re removed panels and broke shit.... they also used sharpies to make the patterns lol worst shop ever not to mention dust everywhere lol
Truthfully I’ve been tinting for almost 3 years and I prefer a sharpie for framed windows on the edges. I can use a knife but I like to limit hand cutting on the car by tracing the molding on the sides with a sharpie. That way I can avoid having to cut on the glass along the rubber and shift the film. I just cut slightly past the sharpie outline with a straight line. For me it’s easier. However, to make an entire pattern out by tracing I disagree with.
I put on my first tint film on a door window(Amazon Filmgoo for home). It worked out great, but I discovered many flaws in my technique. I then went out to buy some cheap tint from a local automotive store, liquidating their inventory. It turns out, it's the "Private Eyes" brand, sold by Alpena. Mediocre film that's meant for DIYers. It sells for $40 bucks a package, I got it for $9 bucks. (the store still has hundreds of rolls). As a practice film, it meets all the specs for a semi quality tint job. I'm gonna use it on a 12 year old truck. If all goes well, I'll use a 2nd one on a friend's car. He's already said he wants me to do it. So, no sales pitch required there. At worst, I'll get some free beers and maybe and order of chicken wings out of the deal. The ultimate goal, is to use the nano ceramic on my new WRX. By then I'll have acquired some somewhat semi skills, which minimizes wasted resources.
Well it is low tac to me. I'm new tinter myself. Only compared to the 1 mil film I have used for past year learning on. This is 1.5 mil film better quality so I just thought that maybe it was supposed to be like that.
I feel bad for bottom loaders. It takes ZERO skill to bottom load windows lmao. Before anyone comments that i dont know how to take panels off, i worked in an audio shop that added window tint because of me. I have taken panels off almost every car. I stick by what i say... BOTTOM LOADING TAKES ZERO SKILL AND IS A HUGE RISK.

right after a tint job, you will have small water pockets as the film dries out. but if it's had a chance to dry and you have white specs/air bubbles, those won't go away and usually needs to be redone. there might be a few specs here or there but if you have bunches of them, I'd get it redone.

Very helpful video bro good stuff
Nice job, that's definitely how you learn! Don't ever be afraid to mess up, it's gonna happen and learning from it is how you get better. glad to hear it!
I agree 100% Great job Matt!
I know this post is relatively old but I HAVE to live up to this. I try to do other techniques, steer from what I’ve been taught, and etc. K.I.S.S. RUNSSS in my head and saves my ass and keeps me from running crazy lol
Could you do a video on carbon X film?
I bought some Some Carbon X 2% from tintdepot a couple weeks ago and I’ve had a lot of trouble with it as I am new to tinting. What a coincidence tho, I’m trying to figure out where I’m going wrong and I actually find a guy sponsored by them.
I can’t get the film to shrink well and I’ve done my side windows 3 times each now, each time, a day later tiny fingers and mini bubbles start popping up in the film. Please help me out!!
Good tips. Where can I get good tint from other than tintdepot? They wont ship to Hawaii.
Check out SunDistributingDirect.com I know they have done it but it's expensive and you have to wait for a boat to get filled up before it leaves the main land.
Suntek film is great
@@DetroitTintStudio Thanks for the help. Just got a 20"x100' roll of Helios Nova 🤙🏽
Couldn’t agree more.
I hope you didn't get discouraged, eventually you'll reach that ''soo thiiis it'' where everything clicks into place and you figure out the trick!
Yay! Thank you guys!!
I’ve been tinting for a few months now and am getting pretty clean installs. I always remove the door panels, but I also am really good at it considering I am also a mechanic and have done it plenty of times before. I tried to tint without removing the gasket and I fail miserably lol so I just always remove them 🤷🏻♂️
I'v failed and gotten bad installs with door panel on too..i always take them apart now..much cleaner and better with bottom loading
Where to get , order window tint “roll” besides Walmart
check out the film here bit.ly/2WvWa4K
Ebay
Great video buy a shank everybody !!!!!!
How do you complete a car in a 1hr 1/2 😩 it’s takin me up to 4hours or more sometimes
Quality first, speed will come with time
Awesome advice 👌🙂
True that!
Makes sense... I've done my car twice it out still looks like I tinted during a dust storm
Last shop I worked at they re removed panels and broke shit.... they also used sharpies to make the patterns lol worst shop ever not to mention dust everywhere lol
😂 that's what I'm afraid of for new people that have no auto experience.
You're the best
Love it
ALL SQUZEE AVAILABLE
So is lexen cheap or not lol
He hasn't done update but I'm using it. Great carbon film. Little low angle haze at times but good film so far.
Steve Matheny have you had any issues with the adhesive being weak, around the dot matrix, and not wanting to lay even after being shrunk?
Well it is low tac to me. I'm new tinter myself. Only compared to the 1 mil film I have used for past year learning on. This is 1.5 mil film better quality so I just thought that maybe it was supposed to be like that.
Did you order via amazon or straight from lexen
Walmart tint taught me.. that stuff works against you! so get good @ that stuff and the top films feel like silk...
🔥
🔥🙌🔥
I feel bad for bottom loaders. It takes ZERO skill to bottom load windows lmao. Before anyone comments that i dont know how to take panels off, i worked in an audio shop that added window tint because of me. I have taken panels off almost every car. I stick by what i say... BOTTOM LOADING TAKES ZERO SKILL AND IS A HUGE RISK.
Bana gonderebilirmisin
👌👌👌
Why would a self proclaimed tinted doing his 1stcar tint both sides no knowlegde
Also I going to open a tint shop using boards and plotters it saves so much tie but will learn to cut also
I'm tinting my own for the first time tomorrow 11/30 . Is it normal to be nervous the first time? 😂 You've been a great help!! 🫶 with confidence building.
