After it stops blooming cut it down a bit maybe 2 inches. Mine is blooming again. I bought it last year and have never repoted it but I will this summer.

Think the main reason it died is ' french ' lavender . It rarely survives more than the one summer in the UK , regardless of whatever ...

Why did you feel it necessary to replace the soil from the dead plant(with fresh soil), but not to clean the pot before putting a new plant in?
