Funny I just watched a video from another nursery saying water lavender then let it go dry and then water again, too much water is bad. Everyone says something different. I'll have to try both ways I guess.
same. everything ive read on ANY of the Lavender species says to give a good soak then let dry out then water again. im going to look into the farmers almanac and usda.org
I recently planted my lavendar, it is a french lavendar and didn't do well when I used the water and let dry theory so im watering them every 2 to 3 days and they look alot better. It is really sunny in the front of my home so they need more moisture.
Let me clarify. Since Lavender is a plant that grows in mediterrean regions it is tolerant to drought. So the advice you heared in the video is not that good because lavender doesnt like to have wet feet. However most lavenders you buy have never experienced stress from drought so they don‘t perform that well when you transplant them in your garden until they have had time to get used to drier conditions.
I believe this is to help with transplanting because he mentions it's only for the first growing season, especially in properly draining soil. Wild lavender doesn't propagate via transplanting. We cut roots if the plant is root bound in the pot as it helps promote proper root growth. If the root ball looks good and isn't too crowded, we let it be. There are so many ways to get similar results and so many variables!
I never messed with the roots when I transplanted my lavendars and they seem to be growing just fine ill have to try that with my next plant . I figured the roots would naturally borrow into the new soil and apparently they did.
I just had a large lavender plant gift to me. It arrived with tons of lavender flower and the pot is full. What do I do???? Leave it in the same pot indoors? Or plant it? In New York State..Fall will arrived soon and of course a cold winter. The plant is lovely and I would like to keep it alive. Would appreciate your help.
I just transplanted lavender plants today in my garden. I live in Bahrain. It's started to get hot .. but should I now again dig back the plant n do the root cutting like u have done becoz I just took it off n transplanted without touching the root part...I m worried if they will adjust into the ground soil if I haven't done root work

Is it ok to water lavender from the top of the plant ? I just got some new ones in containers and I seen something about only water from the bottom. With this AZ heat right now at 118 the leaves are getting a bit crispy . There is enough water in the soil , I would just like to know if it is ok to water from the top. Thank you
You just made me spit out my coffee. Lol I've been doing research on lavender and planting the Spanish variety. I better build a wall like one commenter suggested. Lol
Am I suppose to cut the stems of English lavender when they are done blooming? I have them in pots on my front porch with a sandy soil mixture I made.. some of the stems seem to be going brown and dying after the blooms are done.. is that normal or unhealthy? The rest of the plant seems to look great though.
I bought some 2 inch plants at the lavender festival in Cherry Valley. They started to welt and are dying. The master gardeners told me they could be in shock or I am watering to much. Can you give any advice. I don't want them to die. I took them out of the ground and put them somewhere where there is a little more shade. I added cactus soil and sand but they look the same. Please advise. Thank you.
Remove them from shade, they need full sun, they also don't like being waterlogged, they are a Mediterranean plant so well drained soil, full sun and not too much water. Good luck.
I thought this was suppose to show me how to plant the lavender but your saying I have to go to another video of how to plant this Lavender!?!?!? I wanted to find out how to prepare the ground not just watch you put it in the hole.
I guess that will be answered by how high and how wide they grow. As a hedge, you want to plant them as wide apart as the next plant grows. Easy. No great maths in this.
@@ritakonig1891 Not naive at all. Just dont know about gardening. The thing about a question is, if you know the answer it's easy. I was looking for advice not a condescending rebuff.

Agree. I’m new to planting lavender. I transplanted my lavender and watered it every day. WRONG! I’m in Florida. They do not like water. Needless to say killed my lavender with this guys advice of watering.
The problem with Florida, when it comes to lavender, is the humidity mixed with heat. Don’t get discouraged though, where there’s a will there’s a way. You’re state provides people worldwide with some of the most desirable plants.

Emily Morales-Really, Emily? Mr. Salman knows more than you do. He owned a successful nursery and he's a horticulturist. Try listening better. He said TWICE that this is advice for the first year. They need damp soil to encourage root formation. Otherwise your new lavender won't live unless it's really rainy all summer. Try to be nice to people who take the time to make videos for you.
@@vgil1278 If not planted in gravelly soil, planting on top of a rock is probably to prevent the lavender plant from sitting in a puddle of water, which would rot the roots.
Spring is usually the best time to plant. I am in zone 9B, SF region, I've had success in the fall as well. Its a very easy plant to grow and propagate. Not too much water once established.

Does they come back after winter sir ???
Watering it depends on what time of the year you planted it .if in summer it needs some water .But in spring it doesnt need .
Excellent... no bull straight to the point! Thanks
The way you do with the roots when you took it out from the pot , can we do like that to all kinds of plants? Thanks
absolutely not
How odd.....lavenders are drought tolerant and too much water kills! Attacking the rootball like that is also highly *not* recommended 😥
Agreed. I thought it odd that he recommended watering 1 to 3 times per week.
