To free up space in the cold frame and with the days warming up, Rob plants Canna Lilies. Canna Lilies grow from rhizomes and are planted shallowly in loamy soil. I am going to pick up 5 pots of camellia next week from a seller. I live in Maryland zone 7a. Should I plant them right away since I have heard people say because the room temperature is high and inside the house is very dry because of the heat, some camellia died. Please let me know what soil do I need to buy from Homed Depot. Thanks

    Thank you. I live in zone 6, I believe, and it gets pretty cold, maybe not much more than -5, so I should be ok. So I’ll move it up to the porch. The porch is covered, though, do you think that will be ok? Is not got any walls, but is covered. Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi ! When you say winter. I live in Quebec, Canada and we get lows as low as -30 degres Celcius.. would you think the plant would survive in that temperature? If i wrap the pot and maybe wrap the tree itself and protect it from snow collapsing on it close to my house ? Thanks !!! :)

    • @miltiadisorfanidis7489
      @miltiadisorfanidis7489 3 года назад

      -30c would kill the olive tree, it would freeze to death, to protect it you should put it in a greenhouse or some sort of shelter from the cold

    largely depends where in UK you are. You're right to take care with this as Olive plants in pots will be more susceptible to frost damage than those planted in the ground. Here on the coast we plant them in the ground because they are hardy, and there are some good sized small trees around. Nice plant either way.

    I told you, you have inspired me - sat in my sitting room is a large plastic box, just like yours but deeper, that I brought in madness a week or so ago and wondered what on earth I was going to with it after I realised my original idea for it was fundamently flawed (YT vid for hog feeding house) - now known not to be necessary and heck, the wood mice would likely eat all the food. I do however need to take numerous cuttings from winter honeysuckle to grow for a hedge and it will be perfect to keep the deer and rabbits out - and keep by my back door to check on for water - yippee! An air supply is needed so I'm thinking of drilling holes in the bottom and top - may I ask you thoughts on that?

  • @Dormousey
    @Dormousey 8 лет назад

    I thought your partner would be Chinese (given the valentine's gift and bonsai pines)! How about an experiment with that basil and various natural slug protectors - broken egg shells and coffee grounds for starters maybe? I too would love to grow basil in the garden but have rabbits to contend with as well so no chance :( Pleased to hear you have hogs too; I caught one for the first time on my trail cam last night; I'm so excited; I'm going to edit the footage and post tomorrow - first post in ages:)

  • @Dormousey
    @Dormousey 8 лет назад

    LOL! I was just imaging those giant pine trees growing in your small urban garden, then bonsai - soild sport! If within budget, a small (or large) heated propagator can be used indoors for any of those tricky, heat loving ones. Fingers crossed for all but especially those pines :)

    Nice collection Rob; great to see some plants in the ground too but I appreciate that wasn't the focus of this video :) Still thinking about where you might place that water butt as no sign of even a tiny shed where the lawn mower lives ;) Shall stop watching for tonight or I will drive your crazy with comments. Hi Rob, here's a suggestion I just googled; might inspire you to make something of your own maybe? You can also put some gutters round your shed, only needed on 2 sides in my experience and I have a giant water butt :) Maybe a project for next year. www.evengreener.com/Shop/Best_Selling_Water_Butts/SMB3PTKIT_Mini_Rainsaver_100_litre_Water_Butt_Kit.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw6O-9BRDjhYXH2bOb8Z4BEiQAWRduk6D4bqgruYVu-tt9_3Fd7RbVtSxuXCDngo56ItOMSOMaAqlY8P8HAQ

    Rob - good luck to you mate. Loads I could tell you about buddelia, lonicera and the joy of getting cheap bulbs from nurseries - but I won't! I find your enthusiam wonderfully refreshing. I was thinking of filming my first experiences/experiments with it and I think you have inspired me to do so (please note I have ZERO affliation to that company). Keep it up won't you? I look forward to seeing how things go for you and hope I can cheer you on when they maybe don't go as planned and share the sucesses of course :)
