"While Sherlock Holmes Chapter One may have its own fair share of flaws, it was still reasonably competent as a detective simulation. In comparison, this remade version of The Awakened feels far more like an inferior throwback to old-fashioned point-and-click adventures where trial and error was just as effective an approach as logic and reason, making its forensic deductions feel more like foregone conclusions. This wouldn’t be so bad if its Lovecraft-inspired mystery was compelling enough to sustain interest in its run-of-the-mill casework, but unfortunately it fumbles that too, with its hamfisted attempts at horror more likely to tickle ribs than raise hairs. Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened could have been an intriguing clash of Cluedo/Clue with Cthulu, but instead it’s just a case of squandered potential."
This is starting to get on my nerves... every time anything Lovecraft-related comes out, reviewers keep whining that it's not scary enough. Has any of them actually read Lovecraft? Where are they getting the idea that Lovecraft's materials are supposed to be scary? Cosmic horror has never been about scares. It's about suspense, mystery, atmosphere and a general sense of being lost and confused, usually stemming from facing the unknown. This game is more Lovacraft than anything I've ever played. Well done Frogwares.

Yeah, its far better than any of the true lovecraft games I've played before. Especially the more recent call of cthulhu game.

Despite being mediocre, it's still a massive accomplishment for the Dev who makes a game during a bloody war. Ukranian Dev Frogware is still standing.

Frogwares Sherlock games have always been quite niche in their appeal but they work for me. Given they’re making a game in the middle of a war zone it’s impressive they got it out at all.

This reviewer always emphasises the last word of every sentence. It's really annoying, and sounds like he is reading a poem instead of actually telling us about the game

Why does Tristan read so many reviews for IGN now? He has any awful speaking style called upspeak (also called uptalk, HRT, and HRI). It makes a sentence sound like a question.
It’s a terrible habit for anyone but especially in this case as we have to hear his voice about 60% of the time now when we want to watch an IGN review.
Please get him some classes to learn how to speak properly.

It was fine at first, but he does the same tones which make each review just feel "monotoned" if that makes sense.
Sherlock Holmes is a great fighter in the original books, just like in the 2010's movies, so it would still be appropriate if they had more combat.

This is great too. Two or 3 side missions in every area. Some unmissable(tho u don't have to complete them) shocked reviewer said there are no side missions. Just a blatant lie. Lazy. Point A to point B reviewer

A review is an opinion
If IGN was honest, they would begin the video by mentioning that the game was developed in Ukraine in the middle of a war instead of wating until the end of the video and referring to it as "somewhat extreme circumstances".
And where were their declarations like that while USA+G(oons) invaded other countries, raviging nations, Dear Hypocrite? Where were your requests of the same nature, well? If they were honest they would stay out of political staff, so should you.
It's doesn't matter even if they mention it on the start of the video there work is to review the game verdict will be still the same
IGN Should not be biased.
If IGN has to mention the nations (origin) of video game developing companies, it has to name it for every other companies too.
IGN has always remained neutral from start.

You haven't taken into consideration that this IS THE ONLY GAME made IN TIMES OF WAR,which is a big contributor. These guys are heroes in my opinion.

Don't forget that this game was developed during the bloody war, when Russia attacked Ukraine. The developers created the game under the most difficult conditions.
About 2 hours in and liking it a lot!
This reviewer missed all the frogs that lead to side quest in the asylum. It's not possible unless they were following a guide. Most are in investigation scene rooms. Pisses me off they said game doesn't have side quest. Same with unmissable side quest in ch 2. How did they miss a unmissable.
@@Pharmboy6 yea this review was rushed. The opening level does a great job easing you into the mechanics too. The game succeeds at making you feel like Holmes. Plus it’s based off one of the better books in the Holmes saga.

Giving it a 5, when Steam reviewers give it an average 8.4... that's IGN for ya.... next time Call of Duty will get an 8 or 9 after being sponsored.
The review barely mentions anything positive about the game, seems like 8 minutes of thrashing, the review sounds pretty one-sided.
As someone that loved the origional, this game improved on it in every way, it's the closest thing to actual lovecraft I've seen a video game.

So they didn't follow the formula like with the sinking city which would have been pretty cool if he ended up in that situation

Anyone know which part is more interesting and better made? This or Chapter One from the last ones out?
I’d say gameplay wise the mysteries in this one are better, but chapter one had better overall structure. Both are worthwhile, but this one does build off a lot between Holmes and Watson in chapter 1.
I’d say both are on par with each other.
Play Crimes & Punishment if you haven’t already! That one is is underappreciated masterpiece!

It is easily a 7. Guy missed UNMISSABLE side quest. And then talks about game has bo side quest. Every chapter has 2 or 3 fleshed out side missions and scenes. Many unmissable(tho u don't have to complete them). Only way to accomplish this is by following a guide from point a to b. Evidence only guide. So lazy this reviewer should be 🔥

Sinking city is great. Same devs. Same gameplay
Have you played it? Or even read the story synopsis? This mix is INCREDIBLE. The man who never believes in fairy tales, and relies purely on logic. Finally meets something that he cannot explain, that he cannot logic away. The ultimate challenge for Sherlock. It's absolutely brilliant.

Amazing effort to do in the middle of a full war. Hopefully they will be able to improve on this in the future, under better circumstances.

meh looks like something that if came out around xbox one era it would prob be ok. In 2023 it looks rather dull as a whole, graphics look serviceable but the emoting and dialogue storytelling is what will keep people from snoozing, and it looks stiff and robotic.

No offence if the company was going into War they should put the game on hold so that means we could have actually had a decent experience instead we have a underbaked garbage pile because they thought that they had to rush it out or they should have given it to an actual British company cos Sherlock Holmes is a British made property

Pretty much every other reviewer gave it a much higher rating. I’d recommend reading other reviews because I’m 3 hours into the game and having a blast.
Dev just using the war as an excuse as the previous game was equally as bad.

Well being forced out of ur office and computer equipment. Having to move several times on the run from occupying forces. And having economy collapse so all ur money in bank equals nothing... all investors backing out. It does pose some challenges. Can't travel to direct voice work in studios etc etc.

@@Pharmboy6 The United States is propping up Ukraine's economy. You don't have to believe me. Watch the 60 Minutes investigation into where the money the US is sending ends up. It aired last year. There are portions of Ukraine that have been completely leveled. Some parts look almost as if they did before. Kyiv is not a war zone. The Donebar region is a war zone. Donetsk is a war zone.

because everyone has their place. some of the developers are fighting, some are continuing their work, for this one they are sitting in the trenches so that their family and others can continue their lives. you would also ask why all 40 million Ukrainians are in the trenches together with the president. ha?
