I think all the remakes are like that. Everyone defends one over the others, it’s expected. I’m Michael’s age and I didn’t like this movie when it came out, me and my friends rented FvJ over this one 99% of the time from Blockbuster. And we all hated the NOES remake with a burning passion and still do lol.
I knew inevitably we would get to this movie, your favorite slasher remake. And as much as you love to bust my b*lls about loving MBV3D, I am about to do the same to you for liking this one lol. Jared Padalecki I’d say got the short end here not Jensen lol. I used to be mid with this movie and it’s kinda grown on me over the years but not like so much. I think it’s one of the weaker remakes, I think Dead Jester said it best about this movie “the outside looks a pretty new car but under the hood is a lemon”. And that’s pretty much how I feel about this movie. The directing and look of Jason is good. The kills are good. Everything else I don’t care for. The characters in this movie I think go overboard a bit into the Wrong Turn series territory of being flanderized and outright just unlikable. The guy obsessed with touching himself, the weird guy that licks p***o mags, and the guy who legit is just “weed guy” feels like a group of teenagers from the time we grew up that wore DC’s, had chain belts, and thought it was cool to collect pipes from Myrtle Beach or something. And aside from that issue, showing Jason the whole film kind of detracts his threat to me. I like how he’s intelligent enough to set traps and an be brutal like zombie Jason could be. Also, I dislike Jason running in Part 3 and 4, no different here. But the plot gets into iffy territory kind of like how FvJ made Jason afraid of water for some reason. Except here, he understands traps and all of this but can’t separate a chick that looks like his mom from actually being his mom… it legit took a beat from the See No Evil movie with Kane and I guess it was a shakeup to the twist in Part 2. But I digress. Its like the took the worst aspects of the characters from part 3 and made them worse for me here. But I guess I’ve come around to this more over the years is the fact that it combines the first 3 movies and that’s not hard to improve on really but it’s a compliment. And Jared Padalecki was good here. Not my favorite remake by any means but I’d give it a 3/5. Also, the hate for Halloween Kills I don’t get just as much as I don’t get the hate for this one too. There’s only 3-4 movies from this franchise I actually like, this isn’t one of them. But I’d take this over the RZ Halloween movies in regards to their totality, H20 and Resurrection, H5, Nightmare Part 5 and 6, Halloween ends, majority of the F13 franchise minus FvJ and the Tommy Jarvis trilogy and the nightmare on elm street remake. MBV > Silent Night > Black Xmas > F13 >RZ Halloween > NOES in terms of slasher remakes for me. Like Horror Channel Reviews said “this movie is a piece of crap” but not bad crap lol. I’m just playing with you man, but I like that we like different things sometimes. The icon movies fell flat for me in the remakes. Great review Michael can’t wait for the ranking.

Kill counts higher, I like the nods to legacy characters, has my favorite Michael Myers of all time. Derek Mears is pretty much the most brutal Jason but I honestly like the deprecation from Part 6 the best if I’m being honest. I give my guilty pleasure pass to Kills if I had to say though.

I think this movie is decent. I do like the characters like Clay, Trent and Derek Mears as Jason, of course. I'm don't like Jason's makeup when he's unmask. It looks horrible and this movie is the quick version of the first 4 original of the series.
Hey Michael I’m right with you on this one too. It’s my favorite in the franchise and I agree Mears is my favorite Jason. I do disagree about the killer cut not being any different. I think a few of the kills are noticeable more graphic. As much as I love the remake there is one thing I dislike and that is the very end on the dock. Not so much the scene on the dock itself but just the fact that it’s inconceivable that they would decide to unhook Jason from that wood chipper and then drag his big ass all the way down to the dock. Why in the hell would anyone EVER do that???

Great review, man! Not the greatest fan of this movie, I have to say. Too much nudity and other similar trash. Furthermore, the light looks really off to me. It’s surprising that the director did the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake which I really enjoyed. The movie had some redeeming factors though, the best thing to me is the actors, Jared Padalecki from Supernatural was awesome and so was Dana Panabaker. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the movie, I wouldn’t be watching every now and then if I did. It’s alright but it feels that so much potential has been ruined because of the director’s choices. I believe I gave it 7.5/10 which as you can tell isn’t that bad, it’s the weakest rating so far but something tells me that as soon as I watch that piece of junk called Jason Goes To Hell, I’ll enjoy it a lot more. 😂 Nice work! 👍 God bless you.

This one is just average. I don't much beyond the kinda dumb ending and weak charecters but it was passable, i think they tried at least.
