- After last Halloween I decided to make a custom Friday the 13th Jason mask. I watched some tutorial videos (links below) and just incorporated those tips along with my own freestyling with paints. Very happy with the result. This was not meant to be modeled directly after any specific mask in the series. I just wanted it to look cool.

You’re the reason I got into making these masks. I really didn’t wanna spend 50-100 dollars on Etsy masks and now I made my own. I’ve made part 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, part 4 cover mask, retro part 3, retro part 6, two retro part 5s and I’m in the process of making my Savini Jason mask and MKX Jason mask. How do you Apply The Chevrons right
I Google searched "best paint for Jason mask" and found this video. I'm super glad to find that you used jdf studio blanks. Because I just ordered one of them yesterday. (part 3). So, I will be following this video tutorial for it. I ordered the (.125 White ABS) one because I assumed it was thicker so it would be better. Thanks for taking the time to make a detailed tutorial like this.

I got all the supplies in your video perfectly except the Clear spray paint. I went to Hobby lobby and Walmart but couldn't find that exact looking bottle. I (think) this is the same thing just different design isn't it? imgur.com/a/XkTi2
By the way, the mask in the background of the picture isn't the jdfstudio one. I was gonna practice on a 99 cent one from Walmart while I wait for the good mask to come. :P

So awesome...I love these videos and love Friday the 13th. I feel like when I was a kid in the 80's they had so many different style of hockey mask and now I don't see any for sale. Love the DIY stuff with the mask. All you need is to add the axe mark lol...great job

I made a mask a few years ago without watching any tutorials...turned out OK, not great. Followed your video this time...hate to brag, but it might be the most amazing Halloween prop/costume piece I've ever made. I honestly can't stop looking at it and admiring how awesome it turned out. Huge "thank you" for posting this, you assisted in creating what may end up being one of my favorite Halloween costumes (as soon as I get the other items necessary for Part VI Jason)!

when i sand my mask fully, and rough, i can kind of see through it, even after i put the primer and white(note: my spraypaint was those combined). its fully dry and i can kind of see through some areas. do i have to sand the back of it too?

+Rene Anthony Nuñez Thanks. The acrylic paints are really cheap, maybe $1 a piece at Hobby Lobby. Spray paint is a bit more expensive, around $4 or $5 per can at Lowe's. I'm sure you can find those cheaper though, or buy the small cans. Good luck

May I ask why you're only masking off the top three snaps and not the bottom two? I ordered a blank mask recently to attempt my own customization and so far most of the videos I've seen have done the same thing. Nobody covers the the bottom two snaps before applying a base coat.
The more layers added to those top snaps, the more difficult it could become to snap the straps on when you're done. By covering them you ensure a nice clean/secure snap. I've found that using small balloons is much easier than tape. Like in this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/zLCxiqh_sBg/видео.html
I figured that might be the case for the top 3 snaps, but why not cover the bottom 2?
Because I like painting them to make them look rusted and aged as well. If you want nice clean snaps on the bottom then covering them would be the way to go, yes.
Makes sense. I plan on doing a few in various states of disrepair, so I'll keep this in mind. I would like a pristine part 3 mask thrown into the mix, but my parts 6 and 7 masks will need to be aged and a bit more beat up. In any case, your videos have helped me considerably, so thank you.

looks awesome dude! one thing I would recommend that I do, is when lining the holes in the mask with black paint I smudge it down like a streak kinda.
I watched several videos and yours was simple and to the point. I am so happy with how my mask turned out! Thank you!! I always wanted to use my garden pond as part of my Halloween decoration. I decided to buy just the upper portion of a mannequin and make my own Jason. I'm placing him in my pond. with a "Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake" sign. Bought an inexpensive mask and with your help, it looks terrific. Found a great "Jason" like coat at Goodwill for $5.00 too. Can't wait to put everything together

+Big Hush hey for the the part u have to rub paint on to it with a rog do u mix the colors and the add some water then u put the rav in the water so it can get a dirty look or what how do i do it im very confused at that part
+Jovanny Martinez I squirted some paint into a plastic tray. Then I dipped part of the rag or paper towel in some water to make it damp but NOT soaking wet. Then I dabbed that damp area in some paint, and rubbed it onto the mask, smearing it around in circular fashion mostly. Once you start doing that you'll see the effect and know how to approach it. I used the damp and dry parts of the rag to spread color or remove paint if I put too much on. The dampness gives you more time to smear it around and fix errors before it starts drying.

+Jovanny Martinez Yeah any Halloween store or Wal-Mart should have a hockey mask. Unfortunately none of them will be accurate to the movies as far as their shape/the holes/etc. That's what made me finally order a legit one online. But since there's no time for you to order one on the web, I would suggest finding a mask at a local store then drilling holes yourself based on what the real movie mask looks like. Then paint it, suit up, and scare the hell out of some people.

This is a late reply but the design is actually of friday the 13th remake (2009).
But they are both wide masks, the only difference is that part 8 has smaller eye holes and an axe mark.
Roy Burns mask is my favorite mask in one way, The MKX Roy Burns mask is pretty cool on though.
