Same old, same old with Team Orange Box! The exact same issues with those Polar Express cars (same tooling) I bought several years ago...The engine was around $1,500 and 5 or 6 cars at $200 a pop...you do the math. Sent them all back. Nothing new. It's a shame as Lionel makes some really cool stuff that is innovative and continues to develop new products and features but the quality control and service after the warranty is non-existent. I'm lucky to have a contact with a Lionel-approved Legacy repairman for post-warranty service but there is a reason I've started letting some of my (approximately) 20 Legacy engines go and only have one on order - once the warranty is up....good luck!
Well, given the country of origin I would guess that has a lot to do with the quality. Too bad they didn’t shop that work to central or South America somewhere. It would make doing quality checks much easier. As it is, I will shop on the second hand market for quality items. Paying some kid 25 cents a day for work so corporate jet owner types can charge 200 bucks is bonkers.
Those are some good-looking cars! Too bad about the quality control issues though, especially for the money spent. I see they're made in Vietnam. They still holding a grudge or something?
Lionel’s quality is as expected as it is from China, they have no quality backstop, they could ship to USA in bulk and pack in USA at the prices. But they are clearly in it for the profits!
Of course they are in it for profits. They’re not a charity. They don’t sell a lot of individual products anymore so costs are higher with less numbers Just about every manufacturer is having the same spot issues with quality from China. It’s gotten much worse over there in the last 5 years. I bought a Menards engine and the drive truck fell apart when I put it in the track.
Completely agree! I have just not yet unboxed the power that I am assigning to this rolling stock. . . But I'm filming it now!!! Stay tuned to this weekend 😁😁
Sometimes you have to think too yourself if it was really worth it for Lionel too move there production to china in the first place. We’ve haven’t had 100% good quality product from them since the year 2000
I COMPLETELY agree, Fred!!. . . But the one that is getting matched with this set, is getting filmed this week. Stay tuned to see why it was not in this video😁
I quit buying Lionel all together, they went from number1 to number💩. 2 engines in repair. Don't hate but appreciate MTH & ATLAS. Built better, I love DCS just as much as legacy

They would look awesome behind a set of F3 or F7. Or maybe a Pacific. Great video.

I really like your latest acquisitions Steve! Those cars are beautiful! I’m so sorry you had issues again. Great job on the video! 👍
Thanks, Frank. One day I'll have a streak of flawless items come in
Nice addition to your collection!
Thanks, hope to see ya next week!!
You’re telling me these are 2for $500??
lol 😂 Lionel can go pound sand!
That’s ridiculous.
Experienced the same with two steam locomotives front pilots from Lionel.😳😬😮💨
Would be great with USRA steam locomotives up front.
@junelipinski2025 Filming that exact thing this week 😁
U.S Army. Those Vietnamese have long memories.
Ok, yup. You just won the internet today 🤣😂
They don't make 'em like they used to.

It would have been nice if the changed the diner car sounds. If it was an army transport it should be tailored to that.
There are parts that are tailored for that, I'm happy to say. It used things like "All aboard the Troop Transport, and a few others.

Thank, Wayne!
$500 for broken train set? Ya, that sounds like a deal. 🤦♂️
Great looking cars! Can’t tell, but are the figures inside soldiers dressed in uniform? Thanks for sharing!
Black Pajamas.
for the cost , they should be missing screw or fall apart

One more let down by Lionel and price
