Wouldn't it be fun if Lionel made a Space Shuttle with an external orange tank and launch tower to go with this set. Seeing the joy on your face when unboxing this you need to go buy the extra cars for this!

AWESOME!!!! Nice that you shown it assembled.! Like the run with the covers on and off. I was thinking that if you had the booster assembled, and then put the covers on the cars, who would know that there wasn't any booster parts under the covers????

Great video. That's a big set and a big box that it is delivered in. I have the Lionel Legacy Bessemer and Erie coal train set, but its still in the box. I haven't had time to unbox it yet.

If they made this in a NRO Atlas set I’d buy it. My dad works at Lockheed Martin and he used to do launch support when Atlas would shoot there birds because he got a promotion

Ben....have you ever seen the old K-line two piece booster set each on 8 wheel flats? Just purchased it. Freaking awesome! I got it to run behind my MTH SW1 NASA switcher that is painted in prototypical scheme like they used back in the Apollo days I guess.
If you decide to buy the expansion pack that will give you a total of 2 Booster Rockets and 12 cars, if I did the math correctly. Cool sight to see on your layout.
This made me want to go learn more about the real train, and I saw NASA's EMD 1500-- did Lionel make a model of that? If so, i think you need to get it :D

Its a shame they didn't detail paint the actual booster sections. For the price they charge that's a damn shame, much less excited to go pick mine up now
Great run-through of this set! I just picked up mine from Legacy Station this week. Pros: Lionel's ES44AC (Need I say more?) and Ex-MTH Flat Cars. Cons: The cheaper Lionel Boxcars. Note: I have O72 curves and the boxcar next to the UP ES44AC kept derailing the trucks because that model boxcar does not have a 'swivel' type knuckle coupler as its hard fixed. I had to swap my out from another car. I added another engine so maybe it's that. Oh well. Other than that great set with awesome collectors value like you said.
For $1700 plus, a swivel coupler should have been a no brainer for lionel. I would have hoped that a train lover would have had some design and production input at lionel. A repeated derail on 072 curves shows lack of quality and improper customer care. Lets hope lionel people will do better. Lionel makes some nice stuff, but really... . Gary j
@@Bens_Trains_ if lionel address the bad coupler design issue and gives us the couplers, instructions, and other pieces free, then ok, lionel did well. If not, I loose confidence in lionel, see lionel not thinking quality is highest priority important, and see lionel doing a 2nd rate money grab on this $1700 + set. Gary j
Very well done video . An excellent set but at a truly excessive, rediculous price. $1700 plus more for addons. And remember, its a diesel engine. Nice, but keep this in perspective. We'd luv to know actual mfg cost and markup. Ive always felt somewhat expensive but somewhat affordable trains allows more of us train people to enjoys hours of fun, meet new friends, and learn new skills. This model is impressive, but a $2k model train isn't a routine thing

I don’t have one of these but I say having to unscrew and screw the boosters to get them on and off each time is a downside.
Was it just the camera angle, or did the booster appear to suffer from Peyronie's Disease.😀
