      Agreed. Trower belongs with the greats! He was special despite the Hendrix comparisons. First gut I ever heard make a note sound like poetry. The man put everyone into suspense. Then commenced to put his own stamp on the jam. Robin Trower "Live" was a really good record.

    When people first heard Robin in the states, we all thought it was Hendrix, as Robins playing was as powerful and had that same feel to it, as well as his singer had a really soulful voice with a similar pitch.

    • @k-matsu
      @k-matsu 8 лет назад +5

      Both Trower and Hendrix had some sort of psychic connection to their guitars. They could coax out notes that wept with distortion, yet never lost their pitch or slipped into non-harmonic tones. Most people bend the string too much or too little, hold the guitar at the wrong angle or whatever. . . . and though they do get distorted notes, the result just doesnt quite sound right.
      Apart from those two I can only think of a handful of other players (Beck, Townsend, Frank Marino, Johnny Winter, and maybe one or two others) who had such absolute and precise control over the sound they could squeeze out of their instruments. There are lots of more "flashy" guitarists, as well as many who play around with feedback, but as far as truly "mastering" their instrument, Trower is one of a very small elite.

I think i like the Bruce Trower team better than just about anything, except the original. Trower is very dynamic in what and how he plays, without over playing anything. This drummer has the groove down good, but it sounds all wrong because he's omitting all the flams. Maybe he thinks people can't hear the difference between a flam and just hitting the snare. Well, it's real freakin' obvious to me and to everyone else, too, I'll bet.
      Get those flams in there and it will sound fine. It's not bap-bap, it's b'dap-b'dap.

      This cover of this Cream song is much more subtle than the Cream of the 60's who played VERY LOUD, and Marshall Amplifiers were fairly new back in those days.
      That may be the reason Trower isn't playing loud like Clapton used to although I am sure he is quite capable.
      Of course most of my reply is speculation except for rhe Marshall amplifiers being a new thing in the 60's.

    Trower is Playing the Wrong Chords

    • @toddvandell85
      @toddvandell85 6 лет назад +2

      Doesn't help he's trying to play the chords on a Strat rather than a Les Paul.
      They just don't sound right with the Strat's single coil pickups instead of the Les Paul's dual coil humbuckers.
      Even if he were playing the right chords it's the wrong guitar for the song.
      Love Robin AND Jack and Strats but if you're gonna play Cream songs, ya gotta play a Gibson.
      Otherwise it just sounds wrong.
      Gary Husband is a great drummer but, here again, if you're gonna do Cream songs any justice, ya gotta wail on your kit like Ginger Baker did.
      His playing was far too sedate and laid back for this song.
      Ginger was always all about the drum fills.
      (Being a drummer myself I notice these things.)

    Could this have been edited with more jumping around and one second frames on trowers fretwork? Your film editor sucks! You should try a new line of work.

      Uhh, this about great music and the people who play. Fancy some twerking instead, mate?

    Love Jack (RIP ) and love Trower , but whereas Bruce holds down his end - Trower on the chords section is not quite the equal of Clapton .

      Of course he is not equal, since he is at least balance.
