On of the best blues songs, one of the best rock-blues trio, what a voice! and the guitar vibarato is top, remember i was 17 trying to learn the guitar parts by ear back in 1979 absolutely amazing.
I saw Robin six times in the early- to mid-'70s. Three with Procul Harum, three solo. The last performance I went to, in Flint, Michigan, was mind-blowing. I worked my way right up to the stage. Daydream was one of the songs he played when I was up close, and at one point in his solo the audience was dead silent, and Robin took it down to a whisper; I swear you could have heard a pin drop on the stage. It was the most beautiful moment I've ever experienced at a concert. Rock on, Robin!
This is truly one of Robins most purest, Cleanest and Soulfulness than any other recordings,& Robin improvises, greatly, what are the most underrated guitarists ever !!!
I so major agree with you...they have been my favorite for decades..they spolied me and I cant even listen to blues bands in my city anymore, they bore me lol..Robn Trower, the King of blues.
You got that right. Robin alway had such a great tine to his guitar and nothing had such a smooth tone as Jimmy Dewar’s voice. None of these older songs from Bridge Of Sighs era sound right without Dewar’s unique voice. I really miss that golden voice. Luckily we still have Trower’s awesome guitar to enjoy, but damn it ain’t the same without Jimmy. RIP Jimmy.
They were a perfect pairing I was too young to catch him with Dewar but I have seen Robin several times since the 80's there will never be anyone that can replace James not that Davy Patterson was not a great substitute and his latest bass player is very close however James will always be the greatest imho. Robin just keep getting better I wish I had a tenth of his talent and his tone.
Robin Trower had such a tone and touch and soul...one of my favorite players ever. However, Jimmy Dewar had one of the best voices in rock and will forever be the unsung hero of that great band. Great song...
Sir robin is in MY OPPO. The GREATIST GUITAR hero songwriter on planet 🌎 earth of COARSE so is my other guitar star mr FRANK HANNON CHECK HIM OUT DIG IT . .
Nobody has ever dialed a Strat’s tone better than Robin, it’s perfect. And James’s voice, the dude could sing the phone book and it would still bring me to tears.
Robin's guitar has a voice that is unique. You can hear a couple of notes and you know it's him. He weaves a slow bluesy bend throughout this solo that is so cool.
1974 first concert of my life..... Robin Trower opened (not) certain but I believe sly and Family Stone in Omaha at the old Civic auditorium. Trower should have been the headliner! Those were great times! Still have the ticket stub
I was at this show as a kid. Sat in the line all day but ended up sitting in the balcony. I loved it. I seem to remember multiple encores. My favorite Trower track and Mike Bloomfield told he it was his as well. He had respect for Trower.
Phenomenal. Korean was an excellent drummer with the perfect feel for Trower, and perfectly incorporating the stellar work of his predecessor Reg Isidore. Then Dewar. One of the best voices ever in rock, particularly for the material in this band. And Trower himself1 How can you not love his playing? The tone coming thru the Marshalls, oh man….
Spellbound is a top favourite track for me and Jimmy Dewar’s voice was beautiful and so very unique. RIP to the great James Dewar! Robin’s guitar playing is just beautiful here too…
I wish I had the people of my generation who could understand this music and we can jam to this together. 😟For now, I only have my Dad to enjoy this music with.
I get you. My brother was only 3 years younger than me and he and his mates hated Trower! It was generational mostly but the only thing I didn’t like about my brothers mates!
All I can say is..why doesn't this have millions of views! An amazing performance and inspiring track to listen to. Such space between his notes creates another level to this experience.
I agree, how could it not? You can't get any better than this fabulous BEAUTIFUL excellent song. We should consider ourselves blessed because we hear it that way! Those who are not here weren't.
The tone is such a feature that you need to experience it at least once on good to great quality speakers or headphones ( or even better, live) to fully appreciate and know what to listen for. great without, outstanding next level with. Some people when hearing it for the first time on low quality speakers might think it's too slow.

seen trower play this in a small club. later in his life. it sounded frozen in time. it captivated my soul. were did all the guitare slingers go. thank god for you tube.
We're out here. It's coming full circle. I have a feeling that things are going to come back around. To everything turn turn turn. Ive been playing guitar since I was a kid and always kept to my blues based rock and soul roots and have never compromised. I never cared about pop music in my time so far and I just knew someday things are gonna come back to how it was in the 50s 60s and 70s. Now I feel it's actually coming to pass! So hold tight just a little bit longer. We have a few greats out there now and mark this down on your calendar brother. MIKE DAVIS IS COMING TO FULFILL A ROCK'N'ROLL PROMISE. I don't mean to sound arrogant. I just know it. As a last note. All the guitar companies are really stepping up their quality control and coming out with instruments just like the originals to accommodate the need for this renaissance of quality guitar music that's on the horizon for this century. Not to mention the amplifiers. Peace love and soul brother!
I REMBER LISTENING TO TROWER AND OTHERS ON AN EXTREMELY SOPHISTICATED STEREO--GIANT ALTEC VALENCIAS-YAMAHA CA 1000 AMP TECHNICS TURNTABLE WITH MY BROTHER DARRELL AND BEST FRIEND RANDY CARTER R.I.P. BOTH OF THEM AND JUST MELTING ON THE COUCH TO THIS SONG AFTER A FEW TOKES 1976 ! UNREAL !
What a song…. I absolutely love early Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett and also Robin Trower from ‘68 with Procol Harum & later his own bands. This recording phenomenaly beautiful. I have to add I tend to prefer his slower tempo songs but I’ve been so lucky to have seen him so many times that I’ve lost count. Amazingly I saw him with his lovely wife on a bus with no roof in West Cornwall coming back from Land’s end! I saw him live that day later in St.Ives, Cornwall. U.K. THE gig was overfull and like felt like MAGIC. There was a shoal of dolphins in the bay that day and a huge full moon. Magical day for me!
Wow. Emotional music and thoughtful lyrics. Such a sharp contrast to most of todays music where the singer often sounds like they are reciting the recipe for baking a cake.
When I see Robin Trower, I think about my band days and how I was so influenced by his playing. I remember the first time I heard "Daydream", I interrupted my friends that were near me, pointed to the radio and said, "Who is that? THAT's how I want to play guitar"!
James Dewar was a very powerful vocalist. Very emotional which I think is what music really is! Evokes feelings beyond words. I don't think most people knew that the majority of the songs were written by Robin himself. He was my first real music influence as a teenager in the 1970's. I must have listened to " For Earth Below" at least 15 times a day! The last " Procul Harum" album has his initial first tribute to Jimi Hendrix, although I don't remember now the title! That song is his own vocals. I saw him play Tampa Stadium in 1976 when " Robin Trower Live" was issued and right before " Long Misty Days" came out which I loved! I always stayed with him but let go a little when all the major people began to go disco! Most powerful music influence of my life!
Agree on Dewar. One of the odd things that I came across was that the original idea was a trio with Frankie Miller singing. That would have been very interesting as FM voice was similar to Dewar's. Also saw him in '76 @ Winterland in SF (Tommy Bolin opened the show) and this song was the highlight. I think the Procul Harem song is "Song for a Dreamer" (the LP is "Broken Barricades". Last time I saw him - 5 years ago - he was doing all the singing.
What an absolutely killer player. He was so awesome back then, still rollin' along today & sounding as good as ever, really. That power trio of him, Dewar & Isidore was untouched. I love all kinds of killer newer stuff, lots of modern heavy stuff etc., but nothing now compares to this killer era of guitar blasting....it was just a regular thing, to see musicianship of this calibre back then; even though guys like Trower were at the top of the heap.....
Trower is amazing. Love the space and emotion he puts into his playing. So soulful. He such a nice, humble guy too. Jimmy Dewar had an amazing tone to his vocals too.
Just saw him in Milwaukee and his solo was about ten minutes lt left me spellbound... I told my wife that'll likely be the best guitar solo you'll ever hear
JFC, I've been listening to Trower for decades, this is the first time I've heard this recording. Holy hell, what a display of raw talent. This is a virtuoso, this man. That level of natural ability is just amazing to me
First time l heard this song was this live version. For me it tops all others. James Dewer's voice is sublime. Is it just me, or do most Scots have really good voices (JD, Frankie Miller Hamish Stuart)?? What an awesome guitarist. S.E London's finest
There is a petition to get Robin Trower into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I signed it and I suggest if you love his music as much as me that you sign it too, so far it only has 71 signatures which seems like a bad joke to me
I will NEVER forget this show! RT makes exquisite music.... and I love these lines: "We were children in the Garden, where the flowers kissed the sky. And the birds sang out in wonder, as the days went sailing by"... so, SO good!! Particularly LOVE Robin's smile at the end of this song!! Such a humble man, happy to be making other folks happy by doing something he was born to do.
Lucky you getting to a RT show. Never managed that myself but just love the music. So underrated but I think these 3 were a perfect rock band. You sure put up a lovely comment Carol.
Didn't get a chance to see Robin until 1990 at a small beer joint in Memphis. Can you guess. Ya think Robin blew the doors off of that place that night? Lmfao
Trower's a given but Dewar's voice is as smooth as blue silk. Kids don't normally like their parent's music but listening to this with my dad on a crappy cassette tape in my childhood home kitchen switched something on inside me.
Can't quite explain how weird it is to see this. I was there as a 13 year old. Just about to turn 14. Remember this vividly. Just saw Robin in Petaluma sadly without James, but still a fantastic show.
I was at this most memorable concert in SFO, as a young college student. Never will forget James Dewar's voice, and Robin of course was unbelievably amazing!!!
What a magnificent band! We MISS James Dewar so much! His Humility, His Soul. And Robin... STILL on top of his game. Quite simply the most beautiful tone ever to come from a guitar comes from this man's fingers! That's IT!
I was there for this! I took my little brother with me it was his first concert we had a blast!!! he brought 40 tons of music with him, That was what the advertisement was all about before the concert. The man can play a guitar and that's a fact..
My God...what a celestial song that is. I prefer to listen to it while I'm alone with no distractions...I close my eyes, and I actually FEEL the music touch me n literally transport my spirit out of my body! I can look down at myself, eyes closed n just getting off on it...a total mind f__k when music can physically touch you and take you away...
I grew up listening to Trower and I attending many of his show back in the 70s and early 80s and I will admit I took for granted the greatness of James Dewar's voice. I am sorry James , RIP
James Dewar voice was perfect for Trower's music.
The guitar playing of Robin Trower was so exceptional and Jimmy Dewars voice was Angelic and mesmerizing.! Mystical magic!

James Dewer had the sweetest singing voice. Full of heart.
Mr Dewar's voice fit perfectly with Robin's guitar work. There will never be another.

"Robin Trower Live" 1976 was one of the records I listen the more at this period.
Great player, fantastic feeling and tasty notes !
My husband, gone now 17 years, turned me on to this song. Love it!!

One of my fave Trower songs.
This is one of the best performances ever, really just superb. I don't think words can capture its beauty.
