The same exact thing happened to a good friend of mine when he hit some moss on a turn. There was 5 of us and he was in the front. We all watched him fly off the cliff and get impaled on a broken tree limb. Died on the spot at 17 years old. They had to cut the limb off the tree in order to get him down. That was the last time I rode on a motorcycle 36 years ago. This guy's riding suit probably helped the most but it's still unbelievable he survived. What wonderful friends to have.

It's insane how easily he could slip down that cliff because his friend was in trouble. We are capable of amazing things.
Exactly what I thought
Flipping into that tree saved dude's life, for sure
Simple navigation of the terrain. Bringing a stokes basket down there would be more difficult because of the brush and incline. If no Helo was available, they would have had to do that with some rigging systems. That flight is costly.
I mean I'm pretty sure anyone could slide down it, we just don't have any reason to. Personally I would've jumped onto the slope and slid down towards him right away without even looking around for a way to walk down easier, especially with all that gear on meant to slide across concrete.
