    "When Cardinals appear Angels are near" That is a quote on a towel in my kitchen. A good friend of mine gave it to me for Christmas last year. She is a very talented at crocheting, so she bought the towel then added crochet at the top and put a button on it, so it can go on my oven handle. One of my sons was in the Air Force and died while serving our country. He was only 23 years old. My mother died 2 years later. It hit me hard, so things like that towel allows me to remember him. Every year a female cardinal comes on my deck every year. It makes me smile when that happens. The male cardinal doesn't come on my deck as often. So always look for cardinals.

    I suppose you could call me superstitious but I never take my decorations down until 6th January - The Epiphany, a tradition here in Ireland and Spain where Christmas does not end until the 6th. My father was a big Christmas man and unfortunately took ill Christmas 2013 and went into hospital, he made sure never to spoil Christmas for any of us and passed away on the 6th January 2014, made sure Christmas was over! He'll be gone 10 years this week and it still seems like yesterday 😪
    Happy New Year to you all. I hope 2024 is an amazing year for you all. Lx

    I was given a christmas cactus when I was 13 years old as a hospital planter gift. I kept it for years until I married and started military moves too frequently. I gave it to my mom for safe keeping. That was 47 years ago. She still has it and it flowers for her...i never saw it flower until she had it.

    Good morning Amy. Hope every one is feeling better. We had a round of sickness go through our house right before Christmas. If you take your cactus and sit it in front of a window where it will get the morning sun it will thrive. I have 20 (yes 20 😅) Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving cactus that I've had for several years. I love plants and have a pretty green thumb. Yours looks healthy, if it grows good you will need to up pot it before long. They don't like for the soil to stay wet , if it starts looking wrinkled it is way too dry. Hope some of that helps I know you asked the other lady but thought I'd throw my info in there.

    Amy, I live in the Tampa area, I have my mom's Christmas Cactus, I bought a couple watering bulbs off Amazon and I just stick that in the pot and the last two years I have had her cactus it has bloomed beautifully. I keep mine outside on the porch where it gets alittle but not alot of direct sun. I used to keep it in the house in my office but, we have a new kitten so that was out of the question, lol.

    My mom always had Fannie May candies out for holidays. They are so delicious. I love scrub daddy sponges. I should have asked for some for my stocking. I bought a new cactus this year. I'm trying to grow some from cuttings since we seem to kill them all the time. Left one on the porch that was huge one year and it froze. 😮 Mild colds and coughs here moving back and forth in grandies. Blessings

  • @helenmeredith2002
    @helenmeredith2002 6 месяцев назад +1

    Let your cactus dry almost out before watering. Take it out of the paper wrapper and set it on a drip tray. Otherwise, it will be sitting in water and will root rot. Sit it in a sunny window and hopefully it will do well for you.

  • @aliceperez1766

    On your Christmas cactus, you would have to put it in a bigger pot, take that foil wrapper off put it under a saucer and only water it with rainwater

    You talking about not liking bananas made me think about Jentzen. Since he is lactose intolerant, you might try banana "ice cream" for him. All it is is frozen bananas that you put in a blender and blend up. You can add a splash of lactose free milk to help it cream up if you need to. Then you can add any flavors you want to it.

    Good morning Amy and family and Happy New Year from Tallahassee! My grandma had the most beautiful Christmas cactus. My experience with Publix plants is that after 2-3 weeks they need to be repotted as they begin to become root bound. Might I also suggest to use Miracle Grow or Black Cow potting soil or if you can find mushroom compost from a garden nursery it will help exponentially! Have fun, you can do it!

  • @SalLeeHolland
    @SalLeeHolland 6 месяцев назад

    Silica sand should be cleaned up in the house with a wet mop or wet paper towels etc. Too much can get in the lungs, so you do want to be careful when on the beach with the wind blowing. If using a vacuume cleaner you should have a good hepa filter, so some doesn't get back out into the air and you breath it in. It is found in many places in the states.
