This is the 55 Chevy that made me love 55 Chevys! Dad and mom bought it when I was some where around the age of 6 and I can still see it rolling out of the transporter and something in my brain just immediately pulled me to the car. It was actually suppose to be my first car. I ended up with 68 Camaro though but still ended up driving this through high school when the Camaro was out of commission getting ready for a race. It's also the car I learned to drive manual in. Other than that - it has a lot of cool stories. And it was built to be a real Hot Rod in 1968. I think you'll enjoy this episode with lots of good stories, some history, and a little bit of cruising!

That gas pump reminds me of one on an engine we put on a 350 we took out of a ‘71 Camaro and put in an older Chevi. It didn’t have that little weep hole so pumped gas into the oil pan. As we tried to start it the owner leaned over the lifter cover just as the gas exploded. All the bolts on the cover except 1 ripped out! That one bolt saved the owner from a cover in the chest/head. He couldn’t hear for hours.

Big tires and a big block are the way to go. In 68 a 13 second car was a good running street car. Fuel Funny Cars didn't break into the 6's until 1970! In 1968 Larry Kopp, former NHRA Modified and Pro Stock Truck champion, had a 57, 4 door wagon called Mad Man, with a 331 CI, engine and a tunnel ram, in F/MP. That car was the fastest one in the class, and it ran 11.70's on a good day. My friend Frank owns the orange Super Bell 34 Ford, coupe. He lives about 40 min. from me.

First car in H.S. was a 1956 Chevrolet four-door Station Wagon. (No shortage of fellow students requesting a ride home after school, pack them in). (No safety first considerations then - no seat belts). Also had no engine or trans.; when I bought it. Located a 1959 283 at the salvage yard for $75.00. (Used roughly 1-quart of oil per 50 miles). (Worn out). Oil fouled #8, (Champion heat range; J18, spark-plug), often. (Longest popular / known electrode in that era). (This was before the *no-foul* , spark plug extensions were discovered).

That's kinda cool a '55 to drive to school in. One of my classmates had one, and last I saw a few years ago still did.
When I got my license in '75, I had about $1200 saved up for a car. I found a '67 Camaro, I'd wanted one since I saw my first in early 1967, for sale in the next town over. Got on my 10 speed and rode over to check it out. Got him down to $800. Told my dad about it and the answer was no way. He had a friend with a car that he wanted me to get. Well for $1000 I ended up with a 1972 Vega GT hatchback. Many years later I did end up with a '67.

Very nice car. Bring on the series! I'll take the wheels! I understand , they are overdone , Everyone has them. They'd look good on my 73 Vette.
