- Johnnie did it! He really did it! He found something cooler than the holy grail itself!
Watch as we dig this 55 Chevy gasser out of where its been hiding for 55 years, just waiting for us to find it!
Please make sure you go back and visit him, also tidy his yard as a gesture, your now the owner of his pride and joy, that old boy is a jet.. stay healthy.
Agreed
1000000000% agree!!! He's got us on speed dial!
Also great job on the editing, thankless job ,buts it’s done real well.
I hate doing mine..keep pushing lads.
Truth be told we cleaned up his yard in the downtime between filming/working on cars! :)
What a killer score! Nothing like a 55 Gasser. You are the next keeper enjoy it and appreciate it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Definitely!
YEAHH! I have a '55 2-door wagon I'm rebuilding. When you sat in that seat for the first time and the subtitle said "the moment it got real" I felt that deep in my soul. You've just got yourself a legend, gives me a ton of motivation to get my wagon driving as well.
Sick!! That was a surreal moment. Glad you got some motivation out of it, I know we sure did too!
Great video .. I am 73 and have had many ‘55’s and have 2 of them right now .. one is an A/G and ready to run and the other is my driver that is a 2 door hardtop .. they are a part of my life and would never get rid of them .. these cars will keep you young and give you a smile on your face everyday … 55’s are legends from the glory days at the Dragstrips of the past
Wow! Sounds like you have the best of both worlds. Maybe we can line up on the track someday! Thanks for the encouragement, sir!
It's not very often that a suggested video comes across my RUclips where I feel an instant connection with the hosts. Yesterday was one of those days. Feeling like a bag of shit today so instead of working on my project, I think I'll binge the channel. Love the 55 guys, hell of a score!! Cheers from Southern Alberta, Canada.
This is great to hear! Glad you found us! Hope you stick around, we have a bunch of fun stuff coming up!
Appreciate you!
That's a bad ass 55.
This 55 wants you to take that bricklin to the crusher
We cant wait to get it rolling for duct tape drags coming up! Thanks for stopping by and watching!
Appreciate that! Means a lot coming from you. Hopefully we will get to run down the drag strip together one day!
Crazy how historical stuff finds weird homes. Man, all it needs is a solid cleaning. Everything about it is spot on just the way it is. What a time capsule
Thats what its about.Building friendships and saving old iron.Keeping the hobby alive. Its alot of work but I enjoy saving as many as I can myself.Awesome work guys!
Only way to live! The old stuff is just better!
Awesome video- I watched it 3 times! What an amazing find. It’s almost impossible to find an old racer in its original form. My dream car. Keep up the great content- you guys have a great dynamic.
Appreciate it! We’re extremely excited to put her back on the track! Thanks for watching!
I love it when someone builds these mid ‘50s Chevys and retain the factory dash and instrumentation. You can’t beat the beauty of the factory offering. I wish that when people have to let their old cars sit for sometimes decades they would at least consider some type of building to shelter it in. It would pay off in the future big time.
We agree completely! On both accounts, we’ve come across situations where time just gets away from people and before they know it, 30 years had gone by and they never pulled it in the garage like they’d planned.
Good to see young guys enthusiastic about the stuff we used to run way back before they were even a twinkle in their parents eyes. Not all Muncie's are rock crushers, just the low helix close ratio M22.😎
Old guy stuff is way cooler than what our generation has to offer!
@@rodknockranch Sure is Mate! I'm an old guy still racing old guy stuff.
I see people making light of this old man's ingenuity but back then everones pockets were empty and there wasn't a jegs on every corner.
You’re absolutely right. He’s a real deal old hot rodder in the flesh!
What an amazing find. Your video just showed up in my feed at random. Can't wait to see progress on it. subscribed.
We have big plans for it! Thanks!
put some jelly around your ankles,it will keep the ants away from your candy ass
Thanks for the enthusiasm!
Swiss army man, Jack of all trades master of none 😂
You and Tyler are our heroes!
That car has so much cool factor
It has ALL the cool factor!
"We know we're gonna take some of the colour off, but we don't care". I truly hope the rest of this revival is more sympathetic to the history of this car.
Unfortunately, the paint is flaking off the car everywhere. They painted right over the previous paint job with no prep so it’s just not holding on. What came off while washing it would’ve blown off at 100mph anyways.
We definitely recognize the historic value of this car and have no intention of defacing that historic value in any way we can control.
Man you found my Dream Car. love the 55 Chevy i just Subcribed Good luck Guys!
Thank you for the sub!!!!!! You’ll have a 55 someday I’m sure!!!!!
Those " spider webs " in the paint are cracks in the lacquer . The way cars were painted back then .The difference in cold and hot expansion of the seasons crack the brittle lacquer paint.
Thanks! The lacquer is definitely cracking badly but we’ve learned since that the car also had a cob web paint effect done to it back in the day.
Need a foam pad, DA polisher and some cutting polish
Thank you! We obviously don’t know what we’re doing but learning!! 🫠😂
I’m your newest fan. I don’t like newer cars, but I love these two cars. Chevelle and a 55 Chevy!!!! Count me in boys. I subscribed because of this car and I know I’m not the only one. Aloha from Honolulu Hawaii.🤙🏽
Thanks! Means a lot! Aloha!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it!
The car DD Speed Shop always wanted
Goes to show, they’re still hiding out there!
Well you guys hit a holy grail find, for sure! I'm just glad you are rescuing it and bringing it it back to life. Subscribed
It really is! Thanks so much!
Badass!! Will definitely follow the progress!!
Thanks! Stay tuned!
First time finding your channel, and all I can say is Wow, what an awesome car. And that's coming from a Ford guy. I love the production level of this video as well.
Thanks so much! Means a lot!
Those original torque thrust wheels are awesome
Those aint TQs. Those are Fentons. The round centers are a dead giveaway.
Man, i was just introduced to this channel by youtube algorithm and after watching i dont know how yall only have a little over 2k subs. The channel is killer as well as this ride. Ppl like mr Gene are a dying breed and we need to get as much info from them as we can because when theyre gone they are gone forever.
We’re glad our videos are finding everyone! Happy you like what we’re doing!
You’re absolutely right about Mr. Gene. We’re picking his brain all we can, crazy old hot rodder has some wild stories.
Thanks for watching, hope to see you on the next one!
I’m with ya , my love ,is a 56 chev 2 dr handyman wagon , ( not nomad) series150 folding rear seat . Just installed drivers rocker , passenger side next to, then full floor pan , weld all that, then the bolt on starts , 30 over 350=355 ci. 650 Holley headers stainless steel exhaust to rear bumper . Already did front bushings ball joints and disc brake conversion
Love a tri five wagon! Sounds like a cool ride!
Looks sick so far! That shine after the double wash.
YES SIR!!!! Just wait until we clear it!!
Damn what a steal, she’s a beaut
Now this is epic
Beyond epic
Really should do that buffing indoors. The paint gets to hot in the sun. Dries out the compound before you can get the finish your aiming for.
It was definitely an issue we contended with. The barn was full up during the recording of this video. Plan on going back through it.
This has been my lifelong dream
Ours too!!
55 is a great year for automotive ingenuity, I love my 55 P/U.
Heck yeah!!
That is nuts, crazy cool find. Make that engine run again, you can do it, bet you'll be surprised.
That’s the plan. Mr. Gene spun a bearing 50 years ago so it needs to come apart. It will be back!
Subscribed, can’t wait to see more on this awesome car!! You guys should offer to mow Mr Gene’s yard and clean his property up a bit. He had to of been a cool guy in his day
Already done!
Reminds me of that '55 featured in Hot Rod years and years ago with the story by none other than Gray "Old Dad" Baskerville himself. The name of the story was Hellers A Poppin and the cover pic was of it sitting in a yellow poppy field. IIRC it was silver with purple and orange panel paint. Im sure theres pics if ya do a search. Awsome score, SUBSCRIBED!
We know the car! It has almost the exact same stance! Good eye!
Also subbed to your channel as I really want to see you work on it.
Thanks! Plenty of content on it coming in the near future!
Kool find guys thanks for sharing Aloha
Thank you for watching! 🔥
Good stuff u lucky man..that old tiner is our history!
Thank you! Lucky is an understatement!
Awesome find!!
Really is! Thanks for watching!
Glad I got this in my recommendations! Such a cool car. Hard to beat a 2 door post.
Unbeatable! Glad we found our way to your screen! Thanks for watching!
You got a new subscriber here, enjoyed the vid. I'm a mopar guy myself but who doesn't love a '55 8-)
I feel like we’re setting records! Thanks for watching! We’ll see you on the next one!
Im really happy for you dude! Its a good solid car
Thanks! Super stoked!!
This guy has forgotten more than you guys will ever know about drag racing!
You ain’t wrong!!!
So true! 🤣
That old ansen shifter handle is awesome too.
It sure is!
awesome find!
Thanks!
Very VERY COOL car!! You should really try to get the engine un-stuck if possible and fire it up!! But it might not be good enough to run fully any more depending how bad everything is inside. AWESOME!
Engine was never seized miraculously! It spun a bearing years ago so we’ll be doing what we can to bring it back around! Thanks for watching!
Those front wheels are Fentons, pretty damn rare nowdays.
Yes they are! They’re normally bolted to our 69 Chevelle at the track. Learned they look sweet on the ‘55 too!
Mr Gene is sharp as a tack, reminiscing about when he built and ran that car. I'm 36 years old and can't remember shit about stuff I built 10 years ago.
He really is! It’s incredible to see
Killer car! Can't wait to see it!
YESSIR!!
Such a sick car!
RIGHT?!
Fun project! 🤙🏻
Too much fun!
We gotta run up against your Camaro soon Dom!
The "spider webbing" on the sides may have been intentionally sprayed as an effect. It's done with under reduced lacquer paint and medium to high pressure. I think it can only be done with a standard siphon feed spray gun.
They definitely were intentional. It’s hard to decipher the Cob Webbed paint from the cracks in the paint. There’s a lot of both
55-57 olds 3rd member rears are stronger than 9” fords.
You better go back and take that old gearhead for a 4 gear badass burn .
You know it!
Holy grail 55 gasser.. 😮
Definitely is!
Cobwebbed paint job! Popular in the 70s. My uncle had a 67 Nova with a pearl white and black cobweb pattern on it. Took a special gun to spray and/or I believe low pressure.
Ohhhhhhhh interesting! Thank you!!!! We’re young dumb and confused 🤣🤣
@@rodknockranch you guys heart's are in the right place. Young or old, all nationalities, we all have something in common.
The paint effect is called "cobwebbing" very popular custom trick done in the late 60's through 70's.
Please research what your doing so you're not destroying the history of that car, lots of things on it you shouldn't monkey with and change.
Appreciate the info!
Perfectly said! That would be the difference between "working on cool cars" and actually being cool.
I miss my slotted mags!
They’re the absolute best!
Subbed! I love your down n dirty cars, lotsa character, not checkbook cars!
Thanks a ton! You’ve got good taste, sir! Our stuff is “all original”! 😂
Make sure you take him out for a ride and to the track, then to a late dinner after. ❤️😊👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥
100% going to happen!
Great find. 800 wet and dry. Then 1000. Then polish cutting . Keep the patina. No lettering. Maybe decal lettering. Peel off. Or 1000 wet and dry and clear coat. Patina juice . A car for life. Think you should pull the heads. Unstick everything. Good luck. 👍
Thanks for the tips!
I bet that's either enamel or duco lacquer . Neither will work with modern day catalysed paint . It will be wrinkles like an alligator .
@@Mercmad modern day paint is water based acrylic . You can apply that. Vice grip garage has a patina clear coat. Or a shine juice. But yep I understand. Test patch would be advised. 👍
❤ GONNA BE TOTALLY OUT THERE MAN YEAH
🤟🏻 Coming soon!
Wish I could stuff like this.
They’re still out there! Just gotta find em!
what a great piece of history... any pics of it back in the day ?
Mr. Gene says he might have a few! He said he’ll try to dig them out of whatever box they’re in.
Thanks for the video cool Chevys be cool to get there at 3:27 to run
That’s the plan!!
Fabcraft has anything you need for that Olds/Pontiac 9.3" rear. Brake drums may not be. Kanter has drums for these but Olds used wider brakes and the drums may not be available. Kanter's prices are through the roof for a simple part. To date, Fabcraft has not found a reasonable place to get drums but he does have Wilwood disc brake conversions. Dave has a '55 Chevy that is rather spiffy.
This is super helpful! Thank you so much!
At 1:45 - my brother had a '60 Olds station wagon rear in his drag car years ago. Could it be the same choice?
Very well could be! We haven’t played Sherlock on it yet.
That was 60s 70s style cob webbing paint job you get that affect buy putting the paint in the spray guy with no thinnerand alot of air pressure lacquer paint was thick I did a camaro pearl white with a candy blue fading into purple bumble bee stripe on the front with silver cob webbing and candy blue cob webbing along the rocker panels
That’s awesome! We’ve since learned all about cob webbing, super cool old technique!
Dude hell yeah!!!
WE'RE STOKED!
Any updates? Cant wait to see this run again.
Coming soon!
@rodknockranch Make gassers great again.
now that's a cool car.
Thank you!!
This thing was a real
Looker in its heyday
We’re hoping Mr. Gene can find some old pictures!
That’s lacquer paint. Lacquer cracks and gets “checking “ and looks like spider webs
It’s cracked and the paint was also cobwebbed back in the day. She’s got lines everywhere now
That 55 is sick!!!! Are you going to bring it to Duct Tape?? I want to see it!!
🤫🤐
@@rodknockranch lol. Gotcha….. hey. I sent an email to Freiburger. I thought it would be cool if we do a RUclips channel….. “Battle of the Channels”. Hopefully Saturday night. Just a friendly call out. RUclips channel vs RUclips channels. I thought it would be fun. Would you guys want in on it?
We’re there all the way! That’d be a blast!
Am I the only one that remembers this car in the old super chevy mags or popular hot-rodding.
this or one just like it,looks like a 70s street freak/gasser the crower injection is fucking badass though
We don’t think it was ever featured in any mags, if it was Mr. Gene never mentioned it. We’d love to get our hands on a copy if it was though!
That car is so sick
Thanks!
I don't know how it did 11 sec 1/4s, it took 20 min to get out of the driveway. Ha ha. If this doesn't work you can always impersonate Willy Nelson. Heh heh
We definitely have some room for improvement 😂
damn.. that things perfect
Thanks! We think so too!
Awesome👍
Thanks!
55 chevy!!! My favorite 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Ours too!
Reverse thread on those old cars & especially the mopars
Took us toooooo long to figure it out
Magnesium front wheels?
Sadly no. Old school aluminum!
@@rodknockranchBut they're Fentons, not Americans. Much rarer, and long out of production.
Is that the same gasser from the cars movies?
We hope so
Maaaaaybe! Haha
I’ve already named the car Barney
That’s a good nickname for this dinosaur 🤣🤣
Would look better with a tunnel ram dual quad intake on it
We’ve thought about it but that’s a big part of the history of the car so it’s going to stay long term. Tunnel rams are good, that old crower unit is way cool.
@rodknockranch sadly.. going to be costly to rebuild that antique crower setup. 2 lane blacktop dual quad tunnel ram. I Keep it as a option though
I guess he doesn’t know how to roll a tire… cool 55 thought
Chose harder not smarter on the one
Son!
🔥🔥
the purple nurple............................
We had a purple engine in our Chevelle we called the Purple Nurple 😂
@@rodknockranch then the name is fated
I'm thinking that a gasser has a straight axle front end and the dog house flipped just saying
Common misconception. While common back in the day to run a straight axle it was not required to run in the class and a lot of gas class cars were still on factory control arms. Hot rodders would push engines rearward and lift them to above the center line of the car. All of this was to help with weight transfer. This is where the straight axles came into play. Most people do view a gasser as a wild, jacked up, straight axle car but in reality, all a gas class car consists of is a street style car that runs on pump gas, and has no alterations to its wheel base. They were classified A B or C based on pounds per cubic inch.
As the gas class evolved cars dropped weight off the front, got their engines up as high as possible and lowered the rear to be able to hook better with their primitive suspension. So yes, a lot of gassers had straight axles, but the axle is not what gives it its place in the class!
@rodknockranch I was using Southeast Gasser rules and it must have a 4 speed also
Makes sense. The original gas class with those rules died in 1967 but it’s great that nostalgia classes like the Southeast gassers are bringing it back!
Were they out of '57s? 🤣
Out of stock
@@rodknockranch Did you check the notify when available box? Hey, thanks for the reply, a great sense of humor and a good guy, hope you get to spend many a Sunday going for a malt!
This is so damn cool! Congratulations you guys! Let’s race! :-)

Definitely will have to set it up!
Why didn't you just roll tue tires instead of carrying them.
I’m a moron
Mopar rear end I bet.
50s Oldsmobile with a 5.88 gear!
I realize you guys are just kids but fyi a m22 is a rock crusher m20 or m21s aren't. Only the m22 had straight cut gears which made them loud ( hence the name) The others were helical gears and ran much quieter.
Yeah we’re aware. Mr. Gene told us m20, m21, and m22 repeatedly at different times. Now that we’ve been under it, we can confirm it’s an m20. Thanks for the input though!
What a score man that is my dream car someday ill have one would like to see you use that 327
We’re going to try our hardest to use the 327 at some point!
