Hi everyone! Thanks so much for watching! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know below. If you have a particular pattern you would like to see me create in a tutorial, let me know that as well! Thanks again for watching and happy creating!
Hi Tracey, I really like your method for creating patterns. You had asked if we had a specific pattern that you could show us, I’m trying to get the flower of life in a pattern and I’m not getting it right. I don’t know why. Hope all is good and thank you for sharing your skills.
@@uhoku_official hello! I hope all is well with you also. Thank you for the suggestion! The flower of life isn't an easy one to get in to a seamless pattern because of the overlapping of the petals and it's slightly imperfect size, but it's possible. I will definitely put that on the list for patterns. Thank you for watching, and thank you, again for the suggestion!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage Oh I see now why I’m having trouble. I know you use 4000x4000px so that’s what I’ve also been using - would you think it’s possible to do it on a 4,000x6,000px or equivalent aspect ratio? I’ll try that..
Thank you for this tutorial! Can you do a video showing how to make plaids in affinity designer? Those plaids which are made up of tiny diagonal stripes instead of solid filled stripes. Does that make sense? I’m not sure what they’re called.
You are very welcome; thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! I can definitely put something together on plaids. I know exactly what you're referring to :)
I totally loved this tutorial. I have Affinity 2 windows, and I was able to follow along and make this amazing pattern, which I am using to make a greeting card! Thank you for creating this and sharing it! Looking forward to watching more tutorials!
Thank you for the cool tutorial. I made a symbol of the diamond cluster before tiling it for the Long and Short Rows so I could try different changes to the symbol and see how it looked on the template, allowing me to create alot of different patterns for the asset panel. I also could override it on the main artboard template. It was fun to play around with. Cheers.
Thank you for watching, and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it! So happy to hear you had fun experimenting with symbols. They're a powerful tool! Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks! This pattern (and tutorial) was intended to be simple, so there was no point in using them here. If I were to create something more complex then, yes, I would use symbols.
Hi Tracey! Thank you so much for the tutorial and for explaining how to create patterns in Affinity on iPad! I have a question regarding pattern fills. Is there a way to fill a canvas with a pattern, particularly when the canvas has custom dimensions that aren't square? For example, if I'm working with a specific template with set width and height for print on demand sites, can I create a canvas in Affinity and then fill it entirely with a pattern I've designed without rasterazing it or potentially losing the vector quality? I appreciate any guidance you can provide!
Hi Yuliya! Thank you very much for watching, and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it! On the pattern fills, they are always going to be bitmap fills, if you use the Gradient tool or Vector Flood Fill. If you have a specific canvas size you want to create, and you want it to be in vector format, I would recommend creating your canvas and creating your initial motif in a size that will easily divide in to that canvas, then build it from there. The overall process of tiling would be the same, you would just do the math ahead of time to determine what you would need your motif to be to make it easy to tile it. You could potentially duplicate your original artboard, resize it and retile what you already created but you would need to be careful that it's truly seamless once you're done. To me, without knowing what sorts of dimensions you're working with, starting fresh, with the necessary dimensions in mind, is a better option unless the resized version can easily accommodate your original motif. I hope that makes sense. Now, if you're working with Printify as your print on demand, they actually accept vector files and have a tiling option in their editor. They're the only ones I'm aware of who accept SVG files. I use them myself, and typically just load my original square format file. In that case, I don't need to create a separate file because it's going in as a vector. I just threw a lot of info at you so please let me know if you need clarification on anything!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate all the information you've provided. Thank you also for the additional info on Printify! I did not know they accept SVG files. That makes a lot of sense and would make my process so much easier. Thanks again for your expertise and for sharing your knowledge!
Hi there! If you mean the using the Gradient tool’s bitmap feature to add this pattern to something, yes it would. Any seamless pattern will work in that case. Let me know if you meant something else! Thanks for watching!
Hello Tracey, how do you do the power duplicate in iPad? I actually use pc but wanted to figure out how to use affinity designer in Ipad, it is kind of hard for now. I cannot do power duplicate as pc like ctrl+j and with every click the shape moves.
Hi Bianca! The easiest way, I find, to do power duplicate on the iPad is to create the first move using Transform so it’s exact. From there, you shouldn’t have to touch the object (in fact it’s better not to unless you actually want to move it). As long as it stays selected, you can just long press on your screen with one finger (Don’t do it on your object, do it somewhere else where it won’t get moved) until the Quick menu comes up. Duplicate is one of the options at the top. Select that then keep long pressing and choosing Duplicate until you have all the duplicates you want. If you have a bluetooth keyboard, and can hook your iPad up to it, you can actually use a keyboard shortcut. Hope that helps!

Try using symbols for your original tile for more dynamic control and edibility over the pattern
