@@alastor8091 Yeah, the best way to keep a long gun hidden in a vehicle is to get one that has a folding stock and a carbine length barrel. Guns like an AK with a side folding stock or a Kel Tec SU-16C 5.56. Both guns can be fired while the stock is folded if you need to deploy them quickly. And most importantly, if you break down and have to abandon your vehicle, you can throw either gun inside a hiking pack and take them with you without anyone knowing what you are carrying. A regular AR can be broken down to do this as well, but can't be quickly deployed for use. But any other rifle is going to stand out in its case if you try to carry it with you on foot. This is why I think guns like an AK side folder or SU-16C are worth their weight in gold as road guns.

It's real simple, end the threat and don't be pointing it at anybody when the police show up. Don't point it at cops. You know the saying about police being minutes away when seconds matter? You'll almost certainly have plenty of time to stop a threat and then make your rifle safe and put it down before the police get there. Police show up with loud sirens. It's incumbent on you to maintain situational awareness, and that includes before a shooting happens. Know if there's cops nearby. Also be aware that sometimes violent criminals, especially armed robbers in public places, may have accomplices, trying to blend in and on the lookout for any heroes. There's been cases where a regular person with a concealed carry weapon responded to a threat that they did see, but got shot in the back by the threat they didn't see while they were getting ready to engage.
That said, I've decided I'm not going to be a hero who runs towards a gunfight. Not worth it. Everyone in the kill zone had the same opportunity as I did to arm themselves in self-defense, if they chose to be unarmed and something happens, I feel no moral obligation to rescue them. If I'm right in the thick of it when it starts, and my life or my loved ones' lives are in danger, I will act immediately, and that's why I carry. But if I can get away without a shootout, I have no problem going home and avoiding the risk or possible legal ramifications.

Sounds like a smart setup Mike, especially in such a restricted state. Another option that I believe is New York legal is a Kel Tec SU-16 5.56 Rifle that folds in half. You can get an "A" or "B" model where they don't have a threaded barrel for legal compliance. They take standard AR-15 NATO mags but come with 10 round mags from Kel Tec. Easily fits inside a backpack, very light weight (5 1/4lbs) and fires full power rifle rounds. They are hard to find locally but there are usually a few for sale on Gunbroker at any given time for roughly $550 to $700. If you get one, change the Kel Tec extractor to an AR extractor and it will run as reliable as a Glock. Best, John

Very indiscreet. A person can build what I’ve built for probably $800. It’s unbelievably accurate and more fun than you could imagine. Will make any hostage head shot a person needs to make from 50 yards with ease.

One way to compromise on this is instead of carrying a long gun, carry a Glock 40 MOS 10mm Pistol with a Red Dot on it. Much more accurate than a regular CCW handgun and can easily hit targets out to 100 yards. With a 6" barrel and loaded with Liberty Civil Defense or Underwood Defenders, they are putting out 800-900 ft lbs of energy and are hitting 2000-2500fps depending on the load. All in a package that can be concealed on your person if necessary. This would solve the issue of having to leave it in a vehicle as even though it's a larger handgun, you could easily put it in a fanny pack, chest pack or tiny daypack where a rifle would never fit. You can also get 30 round mags for it if you live in a state where that's legal.

I found a deal on a 10.5in upper kit on Palmetto state armory. It was a 900$ kit with a sig red dot on sale for 399. I built it out. Practiced and ran rounds through it for some time before carrying it. I keep it under the back seat in my 17 Silverado in a soft case with mags. I live in a rural area between two larger city’s. I’m not that afraid of a break in. But I have around 600$ in the entire gun including the case. That’s worth it for my life. I’ll take that chance.

The biggest concern I have with this is law enforcement encounters. Usually there's a fairly simple way to make sure you don't even have a firearm in the vehicle overnight - backpack, tennis bag, etc. But not every cop is going to be happy that you have an AR pistol folded up in a backpack even if it's legal (not with a brace anymore, apparently). You also need permission to leave the state with an SBR. And in Ohio, I've been told by multiple gun store owners that you're technically not allowed to have a long gun in the car unless you're taking it to the range (although I've not seen this law written anywhere that I could find). These concern me more than theft based on where I typically park my vehicle and its distance from me. I would be worried about awkward encounters in a normal traffic stop type situation.

Feed the end of the chain up through your AR's mag well & out the ejection port & then slap a padlock on it. The upper & lower are both secured now. I have a way to keep someone from unbolting the chain with pliers or a normal wrench. Put the bolt through a electrical conduit reducing washer, so only a socket wrench will work. Want to get even more secure? Use a 5 sided security bolt head like the power utility company uses and buy the special socket. Those things are grade 8 or 9 and they don't drill out for ****!

My father taught us, growing up, that if we wanted to have our guns hanging in gun racks on the wall at the house (as opposed to hidden and in a safe somewhere), then do it. You can't live your life terrified somebody's going to steal everything. Could it happen? Yes. Is it likely? Probably not, but that's what insurance is for. His point was, you can't sacrifice your safety and your family safety, and convenience, just because of fear. Life is too short for that. This was a good video. A lot of it depends on where you are and your perceived needs. Where I live, we are really rural; we have drives of 45 minutes to an hour, literally through the woods to get to work, or to go to the grocery store. Our get home gear is far more critical to a lot of us. For that reason, for me, my truck gun is a Remington 870 tactical, with enough different types of ammo to let the gun run in lots of scenarios, from urban to rural. Would I be served better with an AR platform? Certainly, you have more distance fire power with the 223. But, when I look at what is most likely the challenge I would have to face, the shotgun wins hands-down. I do have it locked very well. A thief might find it without having to work too terribly hard, but they're gonna have to do an awful lot of work to get it.

Legalities of a papered SBR, while traveling? This was the appeal of braced "pistols", not needing a Fed "mother, may I?" to cross a state line...to be "legal ".

All you need to break in to an older Super Duty and steal the truck is a flathead screwdriver. Gone in 60 seconds. They have all the time they need at that point.
I live in a town with less than 2500 vehicles. Someone broke my window for the two quarters laying in my console. Just because your guns are hidden doesn’t mean there isn’t something else in there that they want.
Just a few points to ponder.
