  • I hope you enjoy this video on the Leather Machine Company Cobra 26. This is a very capable leather sewing machine. The Cobra 26 can sew leather up to 7/16” thick but can still sew thin leather as well.
Purchasing the Leather Machine Company sewing machine was a huge decision that took me over one year to make. This was for a number of reasons. One reason was that I enjoy hand sewing. I find hand sewing relaxing.
One of the challenges is in sewing leathers that are softer like leather for totes and bags. Many do not have the stiffness that makes it easier to line up your stitches. This results in extended sew times. Recently, I created a leather backpack purse that just the sewing part took about 4 days…. Well anyway.
So in this video I cover the final assembly of the Leather Machine Company Cobra 26. I cover this as well as the setting up and first stitching in my shop.
I talk a little bit about why I purchased this machine as well. At this point I am going to continue to hand sew my belts as well as many other projects.
I purchased the Leather Machine Company cylinder arm sewing machine at the Heart of Texas leather industry trade show in Waco Texas. Yep purchased. I hope you enjoy following along in this next step of my leather products journey. I’m sure that there will be many frustrating projects as I learn the abilities of the Cobra 26 and the limitations of my skills.

Congratulations! I’m sure that you will enjoy using it. Dave (LMC owner) suggested using smaller needles than the book recommended. So I have been doing so and it works great. Purchase an oil bottle with a longer spout than they provide. You will need it to reach the spot that you oil in the back of the main body of the machine. I purchased the Zoom Machine Oil bottle. It works get to reach the spots.

It’s built tough. I will be showing it more…. I have tested on 7/16” leather.

New tool day is always a great day! It amazes me the ease in which the machine seems to push the needle through the leather. I think about the stitching chisel, and it seems to take some good hits to punch the holes. Look forward to seeing more.

Yeah it’s crazy the ease that it displays. Makes me really careful about where I place my fingers.

Question. So when you went backwards and then forward again I assume when you are done with that area it is now triple stitched ?

It’s double stitched at that point to lock in the stitches. Good question.
