    Happened to me a few times with a random orbit sanders. Took the bearing shields out, soaked and cleaned in kerosene, repac, shield back in, and good as new

    That's such a simple and ingenious way to create that rocking motion. I never gave it much thought how that worked. Nice repair.

    New bearing and bending the metal plate back into shape makes it brand new again

    Thank you, your video gave me the confidence to take my sander apart to investigate it's loss of power and increase in noise, it was the same problem, two bearings were beginning to cease up,it is back to brand new now

    Thanks mate. have a ryobi that was giving me grief mid job. its design didnt allow me to take off the plate. But sprayed some lubriant into the bearing and bob's your uncle! thank you!

    Better get a replacement bearing soon. Oil might have freed this bearing up, but in the end will kill it completely quite quickly. The oil will creep out of it again over a (usually quite short) time and leave it more or less dry since the grease, which is the only lubricant that should be in there, doesn't do its job anymore. For a more longterm fix (without buying a new bearing) you could repack the bearing with grease, but chances are that the seal of the sealed bearing gets damaged.

      Nah, sod it. Sourcing and changing the bearing would be as much a pain in the arse as trying to repack it. The sander's got one more fairly hefty job ahead of it then it'll only be used for occasional bits and bobs again so it'll hopefully last a while (famous last words). If it seizes again I'll oil it again.

    Fixing the sander is easy. Finding 3in1 in a metal can, that's hard.

    • @AintBigAintClever
      @AintBigAintClever  5 лет назад +6

      A 3in1 container that doesn't make the "ockle" noise when squeezed is just wrong in my opinion :)

    You should try to pop that bearing up and try to clean the inside of it before putting oil in it. Or if you don’t oil when it dries, it’s going to end up being more of a problem and you’re still gonna have to get the ball bearing out to clean it.

      @@DrakkarCalethiel There's a whole load of stuff I should've done but haven't yet. There's video I've shot but not edited. On top of that I've got an OpenEVSE charger to build and fit, a dashcam unboxing and maybe (maaaaybe) a look around the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV I bought in January and some comparison with the 2002 Lexus GS300 it's replaced.

    since the bearing is on its way out anyway you could have taken off the seal and put oil or grease in there directly. Hopefully it doesn't seize up and wear the shaft.

    How are the rubber inserts removed that cover the orbiting plate screws?

    • @rjpfei5122
      @rjpfei5122 Год назад

      There are no rubber inserts! There seems to be a plastic plate underneath the orbiting plate on this Black & Decker Sandor. Plate may be glued on, so, still don't know how to get the unit apart to lubricate the eccentric. Any ideas?

    OKAY OKAY OKAY, if it happens again I MIGHT open the bearing :D
    There's a video here that shows skateboard bearings being opened up, so it might be easier than I thought.
