@@nez9751 i agree they were big but there are certainly bigger bands. Beatles, Queen, Rolling stones going off numbers are all bigger. even ABBA sold more records than Oasis.

Oasis have been around since the mid 90s, and been split since 2009.
Let’s face it there are many acts who have sole more /as many records, but were shit.
What Liam was saying actually wasn’t sarcasm, there was a very real possibility of him being kidnapped and he had extra security throughout the gig!
It being a real situation doesn't preclude him being sarcastic in his message to the 'so called kidnappers'.

At the start he was referring to a threat by his gangsta mates from Manchester to kidnap him and his brother Noel...Liam likes to think he's a gangsta himself so keeps some dodgy company, and when one of the Manchester underworld figures was invited for drinks by Liam at the Victoria and Albert Hotel with the rest of the band, the underworld figure told Liam he wants a pile of VIP tickets for their Maine Road Stadium gig which was already sold out, or else...I think the bands manager said he could arrange 2 tickets but the mobster just punched him in the face and said I get the tickets or we kidnap the brothers. They even went to the boys Mums house a few days later threatening the same thing so the brothers had to get security to guard their Mums place and also their girlfriends....this would have been around the mid 90's I think.

In England (& the UK), Oasis were bigger than Nirvana. Even today, you see their impact on British culture (drinking culture/lad culture/clothing). They pretty much inspired every British band after them.

How can they be bigger than a band that wasn't around the same time Oasis? Oasis didn't release their debut album until August of 94... 4 months after Nirvana ended. Nirvana ruled the radio in the early 90s . Britpop took over towards the end. Even being from Manchester myself, Oasis weren't widely known until Morning Glory came out.

You know that old cliche that says the devil has the best tunes? It's clearly wrong: Oasis have the best tunes.
Try Supersonic (live at Earl's Court 95) and The Masterplan (Live at Wembley 2008) to experience both sides of the band. The Masterplan is the greatest b-side ever, and this lot were the kings of the b-side.

the story at the time was that there were threats made of kidnapping, but didn't happen, hence why Liam called them so called kidnappers. But it was a story at the time in a number of media outlets, with extra security being employed around the band - if I remember it was local Manchester gang that threatened.

Possibly the greatest of the Brit pop bands of the 90s,way better than Blur,who were their main rivals (but frankly weren't that great).
I never really understood that rivalry, as they were so very different. Oasis is straight up old school rock 'n roll, Blur was way more out there. I actually loved both of them back then, and I'm sad I've seen neither of them live at their peak.

Maybe it's easier on the body.. but Liam was known for using his head voice to sing most if not all of Oasis' lifetime. That, and hashimoto's disease kinda killed his voice from 07 up to '12 or so.

Too bad most Americans have no idea how great Oasis was……Liam’s voice has a punkiness to it that rocks. Add Noel’s songwriting and its epic. This rabbit hole is deep! It’s more like an underground canyon.
I think liam was at his peak at this concert for Oasis songs! But he sounds better with his solo stuff now IMO.
Their accents are so thick they're very hard to understand in interviews.
I saw them live in the late 90's and wasn't that impressed but it was a small venue (ice arena) and the acoustics weren't down to them I guess. Great song list though.
