It’s also crazy that by the end of the runway he’s already at 400 knots. That’s practically cruising speed for a lot of passenger aircraft.
cruising speed closer to 320-350 knots i think
I am even more impressed by how fast he accelerates from 250 to 450 knots , because it took him 8 seconds XDDDD
Yea but that's 400 INDICATED airspeed... which is absolutely hauling ass.
In cruise an airliner will be in the neighborhood of 450 knots TRUE airspeed (look that up). Of course, a fighter can pull up next to an airliner and go far beyond that as well
@@tacodeazul1713 it’s just me drooling over the power of these things.
IAS knots indicate lower the higher altitude you climb due to less air pressure. the 320 knots crusing speed is not the actual speed, it's more around 0.85 mach which would be 566 knots on the ground
I remember reading several years ago about a military pilot - probably in an F-16 who had had to land at O'Hare for some reason - weather or something. After refueling, he then got into the queue for takeoff. Sitting at the end of the runway, he was waiting and waiting for his approval to take off, which was not quickly forthcoming as he watched his fuel rapidly diminishing. In frustration, he blurted out to traffic control that he needed to get going and could they possibly clear him to go now! The controller jokingly said, sure, dude, but if only you can be at 6000 feet at the end of the runway. The pilot replied "roger that" and opened the throttle. And, of course he made the 6000 ft. well within the confines of the length of his assigned runway. 😄
I was that pilot.
JK... I'm a loser.
@@1616jaime I believe in you, don't let your dreams be dreams.
@@Grizzly_2776 Hey thanks man! God Bless You!
6k feet is a joke for an f16.
That about an 8 second climb without even losing any kinetic energy
@@FLMKane well not really, it needs to replace the kinetic energy transferred when it changes its angle of attack in the 90° or so it needs to climb.
It still needs to make that energy up with thrust, it just happens to do it VERY easily.
Great point that you made though, an f-16 eats through 6k feet faster than the pilot can shit their colon out.
I was based at Kunsan AB , Korea in 83. Got a ride in one of our two seaters. We had to divert up to Osan AB and spend the night, so next day (Saturday) we were heading back to Kunsan . The Major in charge of the flight of four of us requested a max performance takeoff and was granted. I was in the second plane. When we going down the runway in full burner we did the exact same thing this pilot did. The acceleration was unbelievable. We popped through a thick cloud cover and leveled off and caught up to number one in a few seconds. The pilot was a super cool guy and let me fly quite a bit. Loops, rolls and he juked through the cloud canyons hollering yee ha! He said this is some job we have isn’t it. This vid took me back 41 years to that day. I loved the Air Force.
Love it. His departure call like 5s after liftoff already at 5k🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a controller at ZMA, that’s the first thing I noticed also
That thing climbs faster than most things fall.
But...all things fall at the same rate...
A feather and a rock fall at the same rate?
@@TheromeSDSnot if you point the nose of that rocket at the ground.
@@layersb160In a vacuum yes, which does not apply here lol my bad
I've read the F-16 is designed to fly without wings. The wings are there to give the pilot control. And to put ordnance on.
Here before it goes Viral and before we see it in 5 Years again
copy shot
You’re my hero.
It’s not going viral
@@Mcgovern124 Let's see maybe in 2 to 3 years, these videos always go viral
This must be a great feeling
It’s a lot of fun!
@Smokey McBongwater something tells me his chance of knowing is slightly higher than yours. Your chances of knowing. Not how high you are.
Only if you can stomach it.
It’s more than a feeling
I love hearing the communication with atc. Lots of videos on RUclips dont include it
The acceleration is so quick you feel like your brain is trying to catch up to your body.
Or your turds wonder why they've been liberated...
Wow in less than 10s he contacted departure and said 5000 climbing to 10000. So awesome! In my Cessna it would take me like 4 to 5 minutes to climb up to 2500 😂
Heck, my Hyundai Elantra is faster than that!
Thats because a light aircraft cessna such as a 152 or 172 produces around 500 pounds of thrust.
An F16 C/D fighting falcon using full afterburner from its Pratt and Whitney F100-PW-200 single turbofan engine can produce between 23,000-29,000 pounds of thrust accelerating the aircraft to more than twice the speed of sound.
@@robertbould2638 Who would have thought that a fighter jet and a Cessna would be so different...
@@robertbould2638 That is insane!
Yeah, but an hour in a Cessna costs you about 100-200 bucks. An hour in an F16 would cost you what...? LOL
Way too short, would've like to see more of the ride. Thrilling stuff. Thanks.
My thoughts exactly! Somewhere there is more like this! There has to be...
Thanks for your service and great video.
F-16 Fighting Falcon will always be my fave plane, Spitfire a close second!
Any love for the F-15? She's got the looks, in my humble opinion.
Mad props to the maintainers and support. The deserve this and a whole lot more.
Its just amazing to see that wing flexing under stress
You had me at merica.
The look on his face when he pulled up to a vertical climb.
"Don't pass out, don't pass out"
I have a 1978 Chevette with 84 hp and some torgue...this is probably a similar sensation...
Although I'm not at 500 knots at the end of my driveway, when she gets up to 35 mph going to Walmart it's pretty invigorating ❤️
😂 Chevettes are badass!
@@liman42 😂
I have a Samurai with 63 hp.... I feel your pain at the end of your driveway.....but Walmart is down the road....
My left ear loved this
lol
What I like is he's not taking the awesomeness of an afterburner takeoff for granted even though he's probably done it many times, it still gives him a big time rush !
Salute with heart-felt gratitude!
"What runway are you off of?" Don't worry about it, buddy, he's way off it.
"All of them"
Viking T/Os - NEVER GET OLD!
Cheers!
Props to Jaime! All ground crew should get a fam ride for all their loyalty and dedication! Thx Afterburn! God bless!
Gotta love the Ronnie Colman "yeah buddy" thrown in there at the end ✌️ Merica
I thought the same thing... Lol
"YEEEEAAH BUDDDAAAYYY"
Wonderfull The Afterburn Podcast
This is so sick!!! Love it!
500kts by the end of the runway 🤯
I feel my ears popping just from watching this video.
He got off the ground pretty quick at was at 400 knots really fast after that. What an awesome ride
Good God, it made me dizzy just watching that incredible acceleration.
The ultimate roller coaster👍
visible flexing of the wings looks really cool
Flying a jet after flying pistons, amazing! No vibration; major throttle lag, then the push, push. "Like being pushed by an angel!" Adolf Galland, WW2. Good guy but on their side....one eye (cheated eye exam!) and cigar lighter in his Bf.109; also a telescope to see long distances.
What an absolutely beautiful thing
Look at that F-16 in a steep unrestricted climb
My favorite fighter jet of all time.
I agree. "That was awesome".
So jealous
Just imagine being a mile off the deck that fast. Damn.
Wow, so cool!!
They make it look so easy.... even border line bored! LOL. INCREDIBLE! 👍🇺🇸
Pretty sweet clip! I like how we get to see physical changes in the pilot. Under the left eye a vein shows up at launching then you get to watch him practice the technique used for maintaining blood flow to the brain. Not for long though. If you blink at the takeoff you'll miss the adjustment, and the mask hides the pilot's face while he's making the noise to keep the blood upstairs and avoid La La land 👨✈️
Pretty sure that's the passenger.
that and the suit pressurization
Amazing
I’d definitely vom. Amazing to see.
Damnnnnnnnnnnnn! that is epic good sir
That must be amazing
I fly small GA planes, diamond DA40s. I've seen the world from that high, 6500, 7500 feet- it takes us several minutes to get there, not a few seconds O.O
Impressive performance to say the least
would love to take a ride in one
Do pilots get nervous doing this stuff or are they just used to it to where it doesn't bother them?
Wohoo I found your podcast awesome
Awesome!
Ultimate roller coaster ride
HOLY SHIT WHAT A RUSH THAT MUST BE...’MERICA
Too cool!
LOL!! I admire these guys, It would take everything I had to hold on to my lunch.
That's why they pull inverted at the top and roll out 180 degrees.
Wow .... lift off ....🌐
Lovin it!!!!
Awesome
Flying a fighter jet is like being in a high-speed chess match, except the pieces are missiles and the stakes are a bit higher. What do you call a fighter jet that's on standby? A ready jet go!"
BOOYAHHHH!!! Pushhh,crunchhhh,hold,pushhh breathe...
Merica!! Make some noise for God and Country! Love it!
Lucky I would have love to experience that .👍
Dude is so casual 😂
Bucket list.
Brilliant
Still smiling
Climb, you magnificent bastard!
Haha @rainwaters is a beast. Would love to go for a rip in the viper
I recognize that base! That's Shaw isn't it? I used to work for a guy who was a F-16 pilot with the SCANG out of McEntire, also my shift partner was the Asst. Fire Chief at McEntire. Swamp Foxes rule!
Someday I want a ride!
So sick
So much 'Dad banter' alright alright alright, send it, merica....all before takeoff. Impressive
Shaw AFB. I'm currently here now building the MQ9 Operations Center. These pilots are insane.
5000 feet in 10 seconds, that's insaine.
That's fast!
He says all the thrust at 0:25. 0:39 - 250 knots. 0:48 - 450 knots. So in 23 seconds he went from 0 to 450 knots = 518 mph. This is 10 m/s^2 or 1G basically. He goes from sea level to 5000 feet in 10 seconds. Average of 3.1Gs.
Well my left ear sure liked the video
Best job in the world!
That made me dizzy. And I am on the couch...
Good friend
Wow!
Merry Christmas 🎁
Gs!!!
Bro this is straight up awesome. May I ask why you follow the runway while airborne and then pull up?
To gain speed for hard G's
@@Jack-id4qm Thanks man!
It’s called a low transition takeoff. In the battlefield it’s a tactile procedure to get away from small arms fire as quickly as possible. Pretty much gather as much speed as you can while in the airfield and get maximum altitude as fast as possible as you leave the airfield.
@@deepalperera4592 sure thing :)

Noooosssssseeeeee up!
Sou Feliz Por Ser Maçom.
What’s the torque like?
I wish they put public ticket to have this experience for everyone . That's a lot money for airforce too.
If you're interested I would check on google. I think I've heard of that being offered.
The F-16 burns 300 lbs of fuel per minute with afterburner on and about 40 without. At the current price of jet fuel, that's about 75 dollars per minute of flight with full thrust and 10 dollars a minute for the remainder of the flight.
The material cost of cycling the engine, touching down, braking and maintaining airworthiness would probably dwarf that amount.
Much less advanced jet aircraft like the L-39 already cost thousands of dollars an hour to fly, I wouldn't be surprised if it took 5 digits to fly the F-16.
Plus you have to pay the pilot.
If this was to be made commercially available, it would most likely not be affordable to "everyone."
Always respond to a 'Merica with a 'Merica when you are going to get blasted straight into the stratosphere. :)
Out of 5000msl climbing to 10,000
Just like that *snaps fingers
