Scotty, i was told by a few bmw mechanics that using the high temp gasket maker such as the one you use with a rubber gasket is bad. Also some say the engine oil eats it. Can you clarify.
Be careful with the sealer on that rubber gasket. If too much is applied, it will ooze into the engine compartment and end up working its way through your engine. Not a good thing.
That is why you use anaerobic sealant that wont harden without absolute oxygen deprivation. It'll just dissolve in the oil otherwise from getting mixed around so much.

Alvin Hah Whatever the factory service manual says. Usually adding RTV to a gasket like that is NOT recommended. The stuff can get loose inside the engine, and clog oil passages for one thing. One use for RTV might be to put a very thin bead in the gasket groove in the cam cover, so the gasket stays with the cover. The operative word is THIN.

Stuart Jameson I did mine a couple of weeks ago. 2014 car and had done the whole course to fine sandpaper discs, then a few more steps with polishing compound. They had a white haze on them, so time to hit them again. This time I just used white tooth paste and two wet micro fiber cloths and one dry. I was done faster than just masking off the paint, the other way. (And with better results) Next I did our sons 2004, totally yellow lenses. It was almost as easy as mine. I could not believe, how much time money and effort I saved!
Scotty grinding it out!!! Go Man Go!
You are the man Savage Scotty.. Hey scotty could u give hovvies a slap or 2...😁
You made it look so easy!!!!
I love Scotty's automotive commentary, but it's always nice to see him show us how it's done.
Love repair videos like this. Always learn new stuff
Watching Scotty Kilmer on RUclips will save you thousands in car repairs!
A true mechanic because he cares about people and shares knowledge. He's world class.
Of course. If you watch it and can't drive your car, there'll be little to repair.
Let's continue the binge watching.
You guy's know what I really love about scotty ?
He actually diagnoses and fixes thing's.
I've known way to many mechanics ready to slap a part on and pray. Nothin worse than a four hundred dollar repair bill and being told ( hopefully that fixed it )
Seriously though. If it was feasible I would ship my car to scotty and back to me. Yeah it would cost a ton but at least I would know it was fixed.
Simply put, We need more Scotty's !
@ScottyKilmer have you ever thought about teaching at a school or owning your own service network? It's hard to find a decent mechanic these days
I believe Scotty said in the past hed rather do RUclips videos because why help a class full of people when you can help millions of people online.
First, to teach, you have to know what you are doing. This guy does not.
Ah scotty your videos bring me joy 😂😂. You definitely speak the true language of a mechanic
Wouldn’t have been easier to do a smoke test?
Amazing to see what mechanics have charged us a fortune to do; but we really appreciate it. BTW, we had fuzzy lights like on that Toyota, and wiped several times with Deep Woods mosquito spray and they cleared right up. Then we washed off the spray to make sure it was gone. Not sure what we should coat them with, but they look like new now! THanks everyday for all your videos Mr. Scotty!
