    I just bought one! Typically, in the Netherlands it costs only 12 euro's more than the shimano xt chain. :)
    Thanks for your review Clint.

    I use one on my Trek Stache. I really like it for the durability and lightness it has to offer.

    You can use reusable chain links on shimano chains as well. You don't have to bolt them. And there are many manufacturers for missing links.

    I can believe u did that so easy. My kmc took alot to separate the master link.

    For tight links removal, wrap a piece of wire around the two pins and twist with pliers, will pop rifgt off.

    Thanks! I just bought this chain, let's see how good is it.
    Indecided to try KMC because the shimano XT was broken easily in my 5th ride. It loojs like it didn't support the tension while going uphill.

    I started using KMC chains a while ago for my road bike and they perform better than shimano ultegra/dura ace and are way more durable, even the cheapest x10 variant is bulletproof for now.

    Do you use a lubricant that is not petrol based? I read before that Muc Off is not.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  7 месяцев назад

      I mainly use Rock N Roll Gold lube which is petroleum based

    • @Jose-sy1je
      @Jose-sy1je 7 месяцев назад

      @@ClintGibbs This is just for your information. A video titled "Ultimate Bike Chain Lubricant Test" by Simply Mountain Biking stated that this lubricant you are using actually has a lot of wear. I'm actually curious how Muc Off can be this good if it's not petroleum based. Idk what it's based on though.

    Any ideas as to why these seem to last so much longer than Shimano chains for some people and so much less for others? Not comparing the exact same chains and exact same finishes on the same cog sets with the same maintenance?

    How about 11 speed chains? Do you replace them when the checker shows 0,5 or 0,75? I have KMC X11 with only 1 500 km on it and the checker shows little over 0,5. I have heard 11s and 12s chains should be replaced sooner (0,5). Should I replace it with a new one, or is it safe to ride it up to 0,75?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  5 лет назад

      Yes, the chain checker works for different drivetrains like 11 or 12 speed.

    1:41Yes you can get the sram's "power lock"quick link of and on as many times as you like, you just need a set of pliers or adjustable wrench since its a very tight fit (no way you can do it with bare hands, at least I couldn't). Bdw I believe that the term "non reusable quick link" stands for not reusing your old quick link from an old worn chain on to a new chain, not if you can get it on and of the chain.... If I understood you correctly.
    Did you ever use PC1091 (XX) chain from SRAM and how many months did it last?
    Cheers

    @beholderlt 9 лет назад

    Campagnolo Veloce chains are insanely tough. They just won't stretch, even compared to KMC. Combine them with a KMC quick link though, since the pins provided are extremely hard to install.

    • @souloftheage
      @souloftheage 9 лет назад

      You CAN use the KMC quick link on a Campy Chain?.
      I've never used Campy stuff..SPENDY....but great stuff.
      Are the Campy chains pretty spendy?.
      I usually use SRAM and have has good reaults. Shimano is crap for installation.
      But I'll mention this to my fellow riders who use Campy.
      Thanks
      Mike

      +michael allen What can I say from my experience, which ends up being just one chain (a friend of mine has used it for quite a bit though): veloce work fine with the KMC missing link. They are more spendy , but they last extremely long. I ride MTB and first I ran into shifting problems in the front before it reached 0.75, so I just switched to KMC X10.93. I think the chain just developed more side to side play so it was hard to shift in the front. Not a problem if you're running one-by.

      +beholderlt Mountain bike chains take a beating. The only chains I've ever had trouble with are Shimanos-with regards to upper end chains. I just put a gold KMC on my bike. I repplaced the pulleys with metal GOLD, sealed,ceramic ones. .It LOOKS real cool but it doesn't seem to move any faster....hhmmmm.....

    Do you know if the powerlock works on all chains, or is it specifically designed for different chains? I'm asking this because the Scott Spark I bought came with a KMC X10 chain and I bought a Shimano CN-HG54 from my LBS (they thought it was the same) but then I have to use a chain tool to remove the chain. This wouldnt be a problem if it wasnt for the fact that the typical terrain I ride in is very muddy, and therefor I always take the chain off and put them in an oilbath over night just to make sure that all the mud etc goes away. I've always done it this way and my chains last me a lot longer because of that. It would make my life so much easier if I could use these powerlocks (same or similar to what you are using)

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  9 лет назад +1

      Probably. I carry one of the old SRAM ones with me in case I break a chain. I think the KMC one would work... Definitely worth a try.

    • @kennethlarsson1499

      Yeah that's what I have on my old bike as well, I just realized I have that one out in the garage I will give it a try thanks for your input.

      Just thought id update incase someone is wondering or if someone asks you one day: it works. I bought some spare quick links from KMC and they work with both the Shimano and KMC 10-speed chains no issues yet, have used the same link with both the KMC and Shimano chains for about 40km on each chain without any problems. My KMC X10 chain feels a little bit better than the Shimano CN-HG54 though, it seems to be smoother.

    Hi Clint. Thank you for all the great information in your videos! An idea for another one for newbies: Installing a new chain: Length, cutting and install. There are several others on youtube, but I would enjoy seeing how you do it (especially getting the correct length), since you explain everything so well.

    I'm new to mountain biking so forgive me if this is a stupid Q
    Are chains directional?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  9 лет назад

      It's actually a good question. Some are, some are not. For example Shimano 11-speed chains are one directional. When you install one-dirctional chains the lettering needs to face outward. chains that are one direction on will say it in the included instructions or even on the box.

    Is it dynosys compatible? And it will be very interesting to know for how much km you used this chain?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  9 лет назад

      Александр Али I have not paired a KMC chain with a Shimano Dyna Sys so I can't give personal feedback, but I've heard of others doing this with no issues. I go more by time than distance for mountain bike riding, but on average I ride my XC bike 3-5 hours per week.

      Check out my bike maintenance tutorial video for the maintenance schedule. As far as washing, just whenever the bike needs it, but i wont ride more than 20 hours or so without cleaning the drive train.
