This answers nearly every frustration I've had trying to get Fusion to do stuff that I thought was easy. And it is easy--if you know what to do. Probably need to watch this a few times through.

This is the kind of piece that will save a new editor hours of frustration by understanding the fundamentals of image frame sizes and resolution for both input media and even more importantly output for delivery. Really essential stuff, that seems to be often ignored now. More of these are a great idea, as the things you go to at 2.00am before a client review and it’s not working!

This is awesome. The way you explain the nodes as having one job - that is incredibly illuminating, as it really helps simplify the thinking during compositing.

    • @PrimevilKneivel
      @PrimevilKneivel 3 года назад

Also think about using the simplest tool for the job if possible. For example if you need to boost the gain on your clip you could use a Brightness/Contrast node but in my experience most artists use a full blown color correct. Both will work but the CC will add processing time to your renders. It's not a big deal if your comp only has one, but if you have a bunch in there it really starts to add up.

Hello Casey and everyone who reads it!
Thank you so much! Almost no day goes by without watching a Resolve video you made because I need to figure out a problem in editing.
I have a question which I cannot find someone else asked already so I hope someone can explain it to.
You mentioned in a previous video you like to have DaVinci Resolve installed on a different disk than your system. I was wondering if it mattered if my recordings are on the same drive than Resolve or if software, recordings and the folder where I export to needs to have their own drive.
The first time this came to mind was when I read that you should not have OBS installed on a disk where you are running the game from. Reading and writing at the same time and all that stuff. I just haven't found a clear answer for this.
    Thank you again!

  • @jmalmsten

I'm pretty sure that if you change the resolution of the polygon node to match the image you want to roto (like you did with the background node by going to settings for the node and unchecking autoresolution and type in the dimensions), you get what you want without adding extra background and merge nodes just to crop it to be the size of the mask.

About Fusion in media pool vs timeline, I guess there is a reason it was made that way: use Fusion compositions as a template instead of creating many similar items in the media pool. Maybe what they can do in the future is adding an option use a Fusion composition as a template OR a linked composition. Meanwhile you suggestion sounds perfect

I'm so blown away by all of this. Taking what was shown here, I was able to mask an object with a Polygon, and track the object's movement with a PlanarTracker (then converted to a PlanarTransform), and combine that to mask out the object ask it moves. However the Polygon mask of course doesn't change shape as the object moves/rotates in the video. So is there a way to draw a Polygon and have each point of the Polygon's points tracked so it "morphs" its shape as the object changes position in 3D space? Or does that sort of thing have to be done by hand?

Try some simple image and text projects. I think they will help you learn a few common nodes and how they work. Obviously it can get very complicated but learning to maje a few simple ones, gets the node idea in place.

Just be aware to beginners of davinci this is is all gobble degook. Do you realise that??
From my own POV there is an enormous cap between those that know fusion and those that muddle on with out it.
It is like learning another language.
Ive often telt what is needed is (or are) some basic tutorials or exercise sis betting to know that basic of fusion and nodes.
    Such as
    exercise 1
    exercise 2
    exercise 3 etc etc
It is to me like leaning another language ( once again) and cannot be done in one go. I cant at least.

As im not into colour in big way is still worth getting into nodes?
