First Clifford, I just gotta say there are not a lot of folks out there that will take the time to make a video when they are taking something apart. Just the effort of shooting, narrating, editing, and posting is a lot. But you Cliff, YOU shoot a 20 minute video of tearing all the plastics off this beast to get to an air filter THAT YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO CHANGE!!! Wow. Second, I just rode home my first Goldwing! 1997 GL1500 w/ 28k. 28K, and I don't think the guy ever washed it or did much of anything but put gas in and turn the throttle. So me being the kind of guy I am, need to change oil and oil filter right away. Figgured I should do the plugs too. What the heck - might as well do the air filter while I am at it, right? So with the daunting amount of brittle plastics all over this thing, time to hit the tubes and see if anyone made a video of how to change the oil and filter. Bam! Cliffs video on how to change oil and e filter. Plugs? BAM! Cliffs got a perfect, detailed vid for that, too. Dude even shows you how to PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN! OMFG. NO ONE DOES THAT! OK, So where the H E double hockey sticks is the flippin air filter on this beast? BAM! Here I am! Cliff.... Thanks, Man! I owe you beer!
Just bought my neighbors 1988 GL1500 that’s only got 33K miles...bought off him for $1,000. I’m hooked on GoldWings now! Everything works-runs like a dream! Thank you for all you do, sir. Really appreciate you sharing the knowledge.
Good lord man you did all that work and it didn't even need a new filter lol. You must really enjoy these videos. Thanks for it though. This is probably the hardest air filter change on any motorcycle ever.
..WoW... Great video..I got drunk and lowballed a 1993 Gold wing 56,000 mi for $2,100.. Unfortunately won...Best investment I've ever made. Tune up, all fluid changed. Smooth as silk..owner told me he was too old to ride 67yo, I'm 72...only the old die young and the young die old...See you on the Interstate...
Hey Cliff. I love your videos bruh. I just got a Honda GL1500 Trike conversion that's been sitting in a friends' garage for two years and wouldn't idle without full choke on. I figured I'd replace all the old fluids, filters, spark plugs, and clean the carbs out. If I were lucky, I wouldn't have to do a carb rebuild. I've owned a lot of bikes, but the biggest was a Honda CB750. Getting to anything on that bike was easy peasy. Not so much on this one. I tried to follow the factory manual at first but quickly gave up. I watched three of your videos and managed to get everything done with a few glitches here and there. Like dropping one the 10mm bolts that hold the center console into the engine compartment. I had to pull the battery and battery housing out to find that sucker. Anywhoo, I did all the work, shot some carb cleaner into both carbs with the bike running, put some seafoam into the gas tank and voila, its idling at 800 rpm with no choke. Riding a trike is nothing like a motorcycle though; it takes some getting used to. Still, with the quarantine, I've been working at home with my wife and two young boys and now I have an excuse to get out of dodge every once in a while :) Thanks again for your help. Your videos are very informative and entertaining without that RUclips "lemme tell you how its done" attitude. I also love seeing your cat run across the frame every once in a while. Take care!
Because I bought a used goldwing trike I wanted to check the air filter to see if it needed to be cleaned or replace so I took everything apart just to find out the air filter was literally brand new and when I put everything back together I notice the dash clock stayed on when I turned the key off. Later I unhooked the negative on the battery and reconnected it and thankfully that fixed the issue and saved me from panic or another teardown.
Clifford have watched your videos and gained a lot of knowledge about Goldwings. I have a 96 Goldwing trike. It ran hot and lost coolant about three years ago. Finding no one to repair, I tackled it myself. The coolant leak occurred next to the thermostat, a small plastic piece with 3 hose connections. A real job, but finally repaired, put back together, filled with water and ran for half hour to make sure no leaks. Filled with antifreeze and ran again. I had drained the gas tank prior and filled with fresh gas and Seafoam. After all that, I started to put back together, new plugs, air filter, oil change etc. Now it does not pick up gas from tank. I tried to take apart the Control Module, but only pulled apart with wires exposed not terminals, so was unable to short across to see if pump was working. New filter is not filling, tried removing to see if pumping to no avail. Motor runs if I pour fuel into carbs, but just won't pick up. My thought is fuel pump, but wondering if you had any other ideas. Might it be the screen at bottom of fuel pump? Any other suggestions? I watch all your videos and you are doing an excellent job of keeping us informed. Keep up the good work.
I completed the air filter check . It was in good shape , but I thought it was a K&N and it wasn't , so at least I know where I'm at on it . Thanks for the help . Spark plug check next .
I remember my old 750 Suzuki. You flip open the seat and there is the battery under the tool box. You pull off the side cover and pull out the air filter. If your battery was dead you used the kick starter. Simple. Easy to fix. My 1500, not so much. Love the bike but servicing is a pain and it could have been done better. My other pet peave is the cheap, tiny plastic supports the hold the passenger pocket doors on. Honda KNOWS they will break. They should have been re-enforced. On the other hand my last trip was 6000 miles trhough rain and frost and I never got cold. I prefer it over the new ones. They knew how to make a bike that would take you across the continent. Now they are more of a sport tourer.
As an experienced motorcycle mechanic i come across bikes that are much worse, like a 1400GTR. I do not work on GL's a lot, but i think the 1500's arent that bad.
A really good move to prevent mice from getting into your air filter system is to put a copper screen over the intake end of that air tube on the front of the air filter housing.
Thanks first time working on my 1997 goldwing trike. You made it easy and simple from taking it apart to putting it back together. I changed the gas filter, oil and oil filter and spark plugs ( used NGK ). I subscribed hope to learn more. Next project changing out speakers, these are old and dry rotten. Hope to see something on this in the future Thanks
We call them Allen Keys .I took my old 1500 to my Ducati doctor who does all the work from his Joint and he works on any bike even a HD he,s one very good bike mechanic .
I have a 1994 honda goldwing. Honda won't touch the thing. Them saying to old. Lol. Ok I said. Can't hardly find parts for it. Let alone trying to find someone to work on it for me. Lol. I was wondering how to do the air filter then I seen this video. Thanks. The bike is the red one and looks and runs great. Just need a few electric fix's.
Thank you, I love to watch your videos, they are very helpful, I have a bike exactly like yours and I love it, if I can I do work on it , at least to have an idea where and how parts are and, I don't like it that much ,but is nice to know what to do if you have problems on the road, away from where you can get any help.
electronic cleaner is good stuff, work great for that, and i should of mention in the video. I used WD-40 because, i figure everyone has some laying around, and the stuff works ok.
Thanks for posting such helpful vids. I see that the method for replacing the air filter get you to the fuel petcock as well. Gonna have to rebuild/replace mine shortly. How about a vid showing how to replace the left side handlebar controls on the GL1500?
Thank you for the informative video! I appreciate the video it helped me out as I just wasn't sure about a few steps & you cleared them up for me as I have a 89' GL1500 TRIKE, so things are for the most part.... the same... . Please keep up the great work!!
BTW, do you have any recommendations for good websites to buy parts & accessories for our GL1500's & Trikes? You seem to be pretty knowledgeable & would know were to go! I seen you referred someone to www.wingstuff.com is that the main website that you trust & or prefer? Thank you in advance for your shared wisdom & information. Sincerely Jessie (J-Rock) Smith
We're either one with the repairing of the plastic on your Honda goldwing? If so you super glue on the crack and then you put baking soda on it and it dries right away try that
I like my 1500 but its ridiculous what it takes for something as simple as replacing an air filter. My Suzuki was a matter of swinging open the seat with a key turn and changing the filter. My Kawasaki was not much harder. Its something that is done repetitively so you would think Honda would consider that. You have to remove the side covers to check the oil and they do tend to break easily as well. Helpful video.
Honda did give it a lot of consideration. They said, lets see, if we make it easy, we will sell a filter and make $6.00 profit to the dealer. But if we make it very difficult, and take our time being very very careful (yea right) we can get about 3 hours labor book time, finish it in 30 min and be $280 net to the dealership. Very considerate for the dealership for sure.
Hi Clifford. Thanks so much for the video. I am trying to add longer bolts to the brackets as you did at the 1:40 mark. Do you have dimensions for those or a part number? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
as I see this video - I have a question - my '94 sits for 2 weeks plus then is very hard to start. Sometimes it floods then I can start the beast up after it sits for a couple of hours. Any ideas?
I do not, but the fuel pump is located under the seat. Remove the seat and disconnect the fuel lines. Undo the electrical wires going to pump, and remove nuts. Fuel pump should pick and come out.
Maybe just disconnect the negative battery wire? No more live hand grenade. But, then again, it is more work so you gain nothing. Keep it all on top, makes life easier.... Good videos!
Tks for all the video I just got a 1993 goldwing 1500 also do u have a extra side cover the one that cover the battery on the right side tks again I'm charging my oil tomorrow because I watched ur video tks

Clifford Rice sincerely thanks man keep up the good work...BTW has anyone ever told you you sound like Elvis an "everything" ..it's great man!! Also where are you located..I would like to bring the bike over for some maintenance if I'm close enough..thanks Cliff
Do you have anything on the intercom system? Mine doesn't intercom anymore! The headsets work because I can hear the radio through the helmet speakers but when you talk nothing comes over the speakers. 1989 GL1500
thanks for the video. Am I missing something? Bases on what I'm seeing, there is no need to disconnect the radio. I looks like it completely out of the way. Am I seeing that correctly? thanks.

Thank you I just bought a 1993 1500 gold wing trike today at a drug seizure auction so your videos will help
Installed a K&N in my ‘88 GL1500. Couldn’t have done it without this great tutorial. Thank you, Cliff! Rubber side down, fellas
Good lord man you did all that work and it didn't even need a new filter lol. You must really enjoy these videos. Thanks for it though. This is probably the hardest air filter change on any motorcycle ever.
No sir, easy peasy comparitively....if you REALLY want to see some "fun" look into air filter on a K1200LT, not quite as bad but also fun is a DL650
I was thinking the same thing!........lol
I have been using all your videos to restore my 1991 Goldwing SE that had been in storage for 20 years. So far so good
..WoW...

Thats an incredible amount of work for an air filter. Wow
thanks for your movies. They are very useful. I bought GL 1500 .94 year. Greetings from Poland. Thomas.
Because I bought a used goldwing trike I wanted to check the air filter to see if it needed to be cleaned or replace so I took everything apart just to find out the air filter was literally brand new and when I put everything back together I notice the dash clock stayed on when I turned the key off. Maybe that automatic fuel tap thing.
I watched revzilla vid and it was that.
Did u find culprit

At least I don't have to pull the gas tank on my 98 GW like my KTM 1190 to get to the filter, great video thanks for sharing.
This was So much help! Gonna go try and give her new lungs, praying for that old plastick not to break though!
Ho do you know if the bike needs a new air filter as I bought my bike used and how often? thanks
U can't know unfortunately have to open up and see filter but it's better to assume it needs to be changed
well, I just bought 90' Goldwing (my first) thank you for the vid, very helpful.

Any help is a big help! Thanks for the great Video
Thanks for the info you make it look easy using 1 hand. i use electronic cleaner instead of wd 40 on my switches.
electronic cleaner is good stuff, work great for that, and i should of mention in the video. I used WD-40 because, i figure everyone has some laying around, and the stuff works ok.
Your video series on the goldwing are awesome, any videos on changing timing belts ? Anyhow thank you for these videos 👍👍
get a set of J.I.S. screwdrivers and you will never have trouble with those "phillips" screws again.
👍😎
Thanks for posting such helpful vids. I see that the method for replacing the air filter get you to the fuel petcock as well. Gonna have to rebuild/replace mine shortly. How about a vid showing how to replace the left side handlebar controls on the GL1500?

We're either one with the repairing of the plastic on your Honda goldwing? If so you super glue on the crack and then you put baking soda on it and it dries right away try that

Danke Nettes Video, sehr hilfreich ! Grüße aus Österreich 😊 Btw. meine gl1500 hat die selbe Farbe

Another fine video, but I mentioned in another video you really need something to hold your camera.
Great video! Learned a lot, thank you!
Hi Clifford. Thanks so much for the video. I am trying to add longer bolts to the brackets as you did at the 1:40 mark. Do you have dimensions for those or a part number? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I think I'll let the shop do it...
Clifford, great video's. Thank you. Would it be possible to show how to wire in a power socket (cig lighter) to use for charging phones, etc..?
i'll see what i can do
Very informative video. i have a 90 Gold wing 1500
as I see this video - I have a question - my '94 sits for 2 weeks plus then is very hard to start. Sometimes it floods then I can start the beast up after it sits for a couple of hours. Any ideas?
Is important replace the sub - filter and cruise filter too.
Great help! Thanks so Much! Fellow Wingman
Do you know of any type of forward controls for a 99 1500
A Clifford do you have a video on removing a fuel pump
I do not, but the fuel pump is located under the seat. Remove the seat and disconnect the fuel lines. Undo the electrical wires going to pump, and remove nuts. Fuel pump should pick and come out.
Thank you man!. Great videos.
There is no need to remove the connectors from the radio, the radio cover sits aside and you can easily access the filter housing.
Hi cliff can u tell me please where is located the rectifier?? Thanks dud your vidios is a Realy help💪💪
Great informative video. Where did you get a replacement air filter?
Ebay or Honda
I’m fixing to buy a 96 same color as seen on this video, where do you stay at because I might need some work done on my sometime. I’m in Texas Sir.
I have a 2000 goldwing trike 1500 no gas in carbs, need carbs built you still need some for face book
Is it ok to put mobile 1 racing oil in my Honda goldwing? Just bought the bike it’s a 1988 model and don’t know much about it
What brand back rest is that? Is that stock? I love that thing???
You don't have to disconnect the wires to to the radio, just lay it over.
Live hand grenade honestly it's best to have it out of the way. Less the risk of damaging anything.
Maybe just disconnect the negative battery wire? No more live hand grenade. But, then again, it is more work so you gain nothing. Keep it all on top, makes life easier.... Good videos!
Tks for all the video I just got a 1993 goldwing 1500 also do u have a extra side cover the one that cover the battery on the right side tks again I'm charging my oil tomorrow because I watched ur video tks
mine had a huge mouse nest, made the engine run rich like the choke was on all the time.
oh wow, you have any pictures of it?
No wish I did
The nest covered 1/3 of the filter. It starts and runs a lot better now! Lol
dang, well i'm glad it runs better
Yeah it's a day and night difference. Thanks for the videos, makes things a lot easier
Get JIS screwdriver set. Stops the stripping of the screws they

ruclips.net/video/y_JVvEEUfwA/видео.html
Thanks Cliff.
Are they actually Philips screws or are they JIS screws? I know most Japanese bike of that area uses the JIS but theGoldwing is made in Ohio.
Very Nice Cliff!
Have you run across any upgrade radios for our model Goldwings ?
Yeah there is some out, mostly would have to be a custom job. Seem alot of people used marine radios before.
@@CliffordRice If you remember any sites that tell me how to and a USB connection I'd like to check into them. Thanks
How many beers from start to finish?
Clif how about doing a video on clutch cylinder slave removal
It might be awhile before i get to that. but if you need help let me know. Its just a few bolts and clutch line that comes off. The video below will give you some helpful info.

Do you have anything on the intercom system? Mine doesn't intercom anymore! The headsets work because I can hear the radio through the helmet speakers but when you talk nothing comes over the speakers. 1989 GL1500
So far nothing, I just don't have the helmet hookups. It's one of the few system I haven't tested yet, although it does power on.

Wow, such a pain in the a** to replace the air filter. I have a 1988 so I guess it is time. Not sure when it was done last.
thanks for the video. Am I missing something? Bases on what I'm seeing, there is no need to disconnect the radio. I looks like it completely out of the way. Am I seeing that correctly? thanks.
Exelente explicación pero lo podría traducir o poner subtitulos en español gracias
Thanks for video you made my mind up on buying s gw. No way in hell.just to change a air cleaner. Wow
