We are just starting out with unschool and I absolutely love this idea! It gets a bit tricky with us though, my eldest is on the spectrum and can get quite anxious about things so I have to keep it really low pressure. He is nearly 7 and we also have a 15mo. Loving your videos!
yes!!! you spoke volumes when you said leave them time to get bored bc they have to think about what to do. Some of my daughters best ideas and play comes from being bored!!
Hello! I like the fact you want them tonwork at some project. Can you make a video a video where you explain more on what kind of projects you propose ?please💜
This summer we're just trying to adjust to our "new normal." They're used to school and summer vacations but here in Miami that's a no-go. I just let them deschool and unwind this summer. We are reading more together during the day and always reading aloud at night. I got some little work sheets with coloring and tracing for my almost 4 year old and he's loving doing them with me. He brings me the book and asks to do it daily. I also started playing more board games with them, though we often have to modify a bit. My daughter (8) finally learned how to ride her bike with no training wheels yesterday 🎉 so we've been waiting until the sun goes down and it's cooler, then riding around the block a bunch. I push the baby in the stroller and keep an eye on my son who still has training wheels.
Oh I like the open ended project idea! We currently have a checklist as well. Read.. I have his at 30 minutes (it isn't his favorite and he needs to work that muscle a little bit since he is a rising 8th grader), review a math concept from this past year. I found a great pre algebra book. I pick out a few problems from a lesson. He does those (2-3) if they are all correct he is done. If he misses one and finds his mistake and it was simple mistake I usually have him do 1 more.. if it was something he missed completely (not a simple arithmetic mistake) I teach the concept and have him do a couple to know he grasps it. Then the next day I assign him one more. If he gets it we move on. The last thing is one he loves which is to listen to a book that I want to read aloud (I do pick things I think he will like but they might not be a fun light read). So we did Swiss Family Robinson and are now reading Fever 1793.

Thanks. I love how simple it is and small goals are easy to do.
Yes! Simple makes it easy to accomplish!
I love how simple this is 💕 Thank you Chantel

That sounds like a pretty great summer! I think your summers are more like our winters where it's more inside time due to the extreme temperatures.

It's been so fun to see what they come up with for a project, today we're making boats and having a boat race - my son's idea!
I'm hoping we can get to Fever 1793 soon!
Do you have an unschooling way of encouraging spelling growth? Or are your kids naturally picking it up from reading?
I'd also like to hear in on this 👂
