I've had 3 children use the General Science- our family does it when kids are in grade 8. It's a good overview and pretty basic. My oldest son just completed advanced biology in grade 11 and it is very, very detailed. It's definitely worth getting the microscope slides and the dissection kit as they are part of the course as well.

Interesting stack!!! We like Handwriting without Tears. I’m in the throes of pulling off everything on my shelves to see what I have and revamping everything. Last year was a little stagnant on my part. I also want to up my younger threes mom involvement. I feel nervously excited.

Have you considered math-u-see? Its very similar but a slower progression but also easy to speed up and move on if they are ready. Could work well for your first grader. If your older kids reach a point where learn math fast is moving too fast at some point.

We prefer the older Apologia texts written by Jay Wile. He has moved away from apologia, they have rewritten the texts (which we have not used...), and Wiles books are now published through Berean Builders. Maybe you already know this...

Without wanting to type out the whole explanation, cursive helps kids with dyslexia a lot. That’s something you may want to look it up. 😊 it also helps the brain in several ways. This is a great haul!

My daughter used Apologia Advanced Biology and loved it. It's for college prep and gifted teens in my opinion. Being that she is interested in nursing, it's a good introduction to the workload that college will be, if she's ready. If not, you can wait.

We are teaching cursive, because they could not read their birthday cards from their grandparents. They always write in cursive. Also, for signing their name. Also, because important history documents are written in cursive.

My oldest is also going into 9th grade and she's doing biology with Sabbath Mood Homeschool. She also has interest in medical/anatomy. We are supplementing with portions of Institute for Creation Research's Guide to the Human Body book which is kind of set up like a DK book, but also has science from a biblical worldview.

Apologia General Science made my science loving child dread science. We loved Apologia Young Explorers, but moving to General Science was not a good move for us. Reaca might be ok with it, but the amount of dry reading and regurgitation of facts might be problematic for Ephraim. We ended up doing high school science in an online format with Dr. Shormann (we also did his math) and my daughter loved science and math throughout.

We have used a lot of apologia over the years. I feel my kids really enjoyed all the lower levels. We have done the audio mp3 download from the Apologia site. It helped get him through the drier parts and be able to follow along. We switched last year to GuestHollow curriculum which was fantastic. It is a literature approach with tons of books (I could get mostly from the library, youtube or Everand.) The great thing is there are so many to choose from that if some don’t fit your kids style you just move on to something else. Love explode the code as well!

My son (who can't sit still) loves explode the code. It's the first book he chooses to get done in the day and it's fun for him and he understands it. I teach handwriting as well, and when I have a messy printer I make them hand write to slow them down and write nicer!

Apologia is an option we are considering for high school. Will be curious what you think of it. I think the middle school gen science is a good option to tie elementary science together and make sure they have a baseline before diving in deep in high school.

The Master Books series is excellent! It's a really good gentle intro for 7th/8th grade where they don't necessarily want to know the steps of all of the different cycles the cells perform (ATP synthesis, Krebs, etc), but they want to understand how the body works. My son enjoyed it!

  • @sarahpearce3164

Apologia high school levels are intense. Very very good but a lot of reading/work. It's also set to where you are supposed to do them in some order. We haven't used Advanced Biology yet so I'm not sure what the prerequisites are. Hopefully she loves it! ❤

I just borrowed the Dahl medicine book audi from the library! can't wait to listen to it driving to and from work and before bed! I listened to the audiobooks of the Fudge series as an adult and liked them. I also liked listening to Peck's Long Way from Chicago - the sequel is my favorite but it's about the sister and grandma- the first I mentioned is both together and different stories/experiences.

How appropriate are these books? Our daughter is 10 and just got into reading wich we are thrilled by, but we want to make sure what she reads is appropriate. We are very strict about what she watches/reads, anything with violence, sex, drugs, swearing, or dark themes is not allowed. Some of the books you listed seem neat and like she would like them but we want to make sure what she reads is appropriate.

I was wondering specifically about if my two would feel "stuck" at a certain point. We have found that starting this system in middle school works well. I agree on the not sure how it would for younger kids, the books progress quickly and you would definitely be at a halt by book 3 with younger kids. Overall though, we have had success with these books and I really appreciate her teaching style.

I want to thank you for the tip on this curriculum from your previous video. I purchased vol 2 as a supplement and it’s been a huge hit with my 5th grader. I was shocked she liked it so much. I did one lesson with her and she grabbed it from me and began to work through the lessons on her own. She is a good reader and the conversational style lessons worked so well for her. Simple and great so far 👍🏻. Thank you thank you 🙏🏼💗

For 8th grader, she writes notes, a summary or something that jumped out at her. She spends her free time writing stories so I'm not really concerned about writing with her. With my 5th grader we mostly do oral narration, he struggles with dyslexia and dysgraphia so doing it orally helps a lot.

We are trying out two different grammar programs and I haven't been able to start the second one because... sickness... But, we also have been enjoying "Mary Cassat" as our Artist. Her paintings are so homey. We have a "Getting to know the Greatest Artist" book for her. We have also been loving "Classic Starts" Sherlock Holmes 🎉❤ Ps- I have four kids (11 year old girl, 9 year old girl, 6 year old boy, 3 year old girl). We look forward to your CM guides!
