It makes me happy every time I wear it! I firmly believe Pluto should still be a planet.

@@IntentionalHomeschooling I agree. There is a book called Pluto Gets the Call. It is so cute. My kids like it but I think I loved it more than they did. Pluto is feeling sad about not being a planet but the sun helps him feel better. So cute.

I have never thought about reading through old sermons. That sounds like it could be very uplifting.

I agree with the reading aloud. We do a lot of reading out loud and we all benefit from that, especially when we stop to ask questions or add comments and perspective that would not have been there individually.

Yes, I love that ability to build off the story by asking questions!

You always share so many great ideas. We are on a break from our school year, and one of my goals during this month is to plan out my own "Mama-Ed" as I call it. 🙂 We have that same collection of Spurgeon sermons, so I think I'll try your approah with that, and I also want to check out that church history book!

Funny. I was just thinking where I wanted to turn next and the minor prophets it is. I just started reading Hosea today.

Ah! And I influenced you about volume 1 🫣 I’m sorry! I too didn’t know it was just youngsters and form 1! I guess a good foundation of her ideas at least?! Volume 6 is on my TBR too!
Love that you call this mother “curriculum”! And you made an Ambleside style spread!? That’s so cool.
I’m just nodding along! I read 2 Elizabeth Elliot books in the Summer and would love to read another. Also bought Spurgeons autobiography volume 1 last year I still have to get to!
I love when you find people with similar reads! 🫶
Mere Christianity was a good one if I remember right - was so neat to imagine them as radio broadcasts! - is that the right one? It’s like a book collection of his radio program? It’s been a while but I that’s how I had it in my mind.
Can’t wait for another update! Off to make a mama spreadsheet…💃😂

Great video. My favorite genre (after reading the Bible, that is always #1) is Christian spiritual growth books, however more recently I have been interested in reading and learning more history (non-fiction and historical fiction). I feel like I should be reading homeschool books, but for some reason I am not super interested in reading them, but my goal is try to read at least one this year.

  • @sandra3616

I have The Moonstone and Mere Christianity - unread - as well. And I read the first book of Frost's poetry in the combined collection I have. Some overlap here!
I would say I do this sort of thing more informally, but TRY to be intentional at the same time. In the Christian non-fiction category, I started Praying by JI Packer and Carolyn Nystrom, but I think i may leave it for a bit and come back to it. I'm thinking of starting Living Prayer by Metropolitan Anthony. I borrowed it from a friend. I have a few from her. The two others of those I'd like to read very soon are GK Chesterton's St Francis of Assisi and a book called Learning from Henri Nouwen and Vincent van Gogh by Carol A. Berry. I don't really have any Hosea resources picked out yet. I'm going to read it fairly rapidly first. I know we have some books that could be helpful. We'll see.

I've never read an J.I. Packer but I have loved the videos I've seen by him, I'll have to take a look at some of his books, actually, I wonder if Jared has any on his shelves . . .
I love that we have some overlap!

I love seeing all of the things you're working on. There's a book I'm starting soon called The Message of the Prophets by J. Daniel Hayes that covers both the major and minor prophets. I'm really looking forward to delving into those!

I mean this in the nicest way, but I often feel like the Clarksons need to calm down a smidge. Sally’s books are really incredible, no doubt, but maybe let’s simplify the message a bit on a few of them. Momma’s (especially with little littles) need easy, approachable material that they can digest while doing 76 other things. I felt the same way about their homeschool book. 📚

We are so alike! I started reading the Core last year and loved the parts I've read, but still haven't finished it! I also bought educating the whole hearted child and when I got it was so overwhelmed by how big it is and only read a tiny bit. I love your idea of only read the parts of it that applies now and taking certain books and making a goal to read one chapter a week! We have definitely went from being pretty strict when I first started homeschooling to being more relaxed and now we are back to having more structure.

I have the original CM books, but I've been eyeing the annotated editions. I've read the first one numerous times, but I've only read parts of the others. I'd like to read through all of them at least once this year.

Mother academia… what an encouraging use of free time!
I’ve been trying to read one book a month this year: Redeeming Productivity by Reagan Rose, Disciplines of Grace by Jerry Bridges, Loving God with all your Mind by Elizabeth George. And now for April, I’m hoping to read Things We Wish We’d Known by Bill & Diana Waring, which is filled with articles about the experiences of veteran homeschoolers.

Thank you so much for sharing and I need that shirt! Do you happen to remember where you got it?
I informally do this type of thing, too. I try to always have several books I am slowly moving through. Right now I am working on Mother Culture by Karen Andreola, The Unsaved Christian by Inserra, a study on Habakkuk, Honey for a Teen’s Heart by Hunt…If I had to say the topics I work from they would be similar to yours. I do also try to have a book going that I am trying to “vet”- to see if it is worth adding to our stack to work through as a family.

I love the shirt too, it's from Temu.
I've never read Karen Andreola's Mother Culture, though I have read a few of her other books, maybe I'll have to pick that one up soon!

I love this topic of Mother Academia! Would definitely like to see vlogs and more ideas from you on this topic. Just finished reading Home Education and Mere Christianity and I loved them. I’m currently reading Paradise Lost by John Milton and read C.S. Lewis’s “A Preface to Paradise Lost” for my mother academia and I’m surprised how much I love it. Thank you for sharing! 😊

Charlotte Mason Vol3 has some practical too just fyi. Yes, Educating Whole Hearted Child is a pick and choose book, and eventually you find yourself covering it all :D I'm also wanting to read more Spurgeon and Lewis! I'm sharing how I create mother culture on you tube next week, though not necessarily my specifics. I like the Charlotte Mason "mother's education" mentality, thought sometimes it is hard for me to keep up with my own goals with 7 kids running around and needing their own education.

      @IntentionalHomeschooling  4 месяца назад +1

That's great to hear about volume three, I just know they've annotated volumes one and six so that's why I was going to read those first. I'm not sure if they plan on annotating the others or not . . .

I really want to get into Lewis's classics myself, along with going through the online resources for his books. I think they would help me understand his work so much better than if I just read them on my own. I also want to get into my other Bible studies by Gary Wayne, Josh McDowell and Christian Widener. They are huge books, so spacing them out in the Ambleside style might work for me, too. I would love to get more into the Ambleside site and just start from Year 7 and work through to the end of the curriculum, since I feel like I missed out on that going through public school in the 80s. lol Great video! Love the resources.

Yes, the C. S. Institute online has tons of great resources for getting more out of his works!
I'm totally with you on wanting to work through the Ambleside resources myself, I definitely missed out in my education. I went to a small Christian school and I'm still confused as to why we were never taught any theology, I feel like I have so much learning to make up for!
