  • When I bought my new 2008-2016 Audi A4 it had an ABS warning and parking brake fault warning on the dash.
    After having it scanned by a local garage (it would be great to have my own fault code reader) it was diagnosed as the front nearside wheel speed sensor.
    This video shows what I did to change the sensor for a brand new unit.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  Год назад +1

      They do get stuck very easily after years of road grime and damp. If you need to drill out the old sensor be very careful not to scratch the magnetic backing on the wheel bearing or you will need to replace that as well.

    Great video. I bought a scan tool and got a code for the front right speed sensor so I replaced the sensor. I then noticed that I had live data available with the scan tool and tested the sensors and they’re all working but I’m still getting the front right wheel speed sensor code. I’ve cleared the codes and it still comes back. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  3 года назад +2

      The rear face of the wheel bearing has a thin magnetic coating, bit like old cassette tape and its quite fragile. It is possible to scratch the surface if you needed to use tools to remove the old speed sensor and the scratch will confuse the new sensor and throw up a fault code. Double check your wiring and connections but you may need to change the wheel bearing on that hub.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow

      I have not heard that one. I have had a low battery warning and a flat battery due to the corona lock down and the battery had its own warning message. No sign of ABS warnings.

    Hey! My audi a4 has the same thing at the moment. When coming to a slow hault and braking did you feel a slight judder

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 года назад

      I didnt notice a judder if in honest and didnt brake sharp enough to test the ABS. The front offside sensor is the same as the rear nearside and vice versa but you will need to scan the car to find out which one is faulty and when you do change it, expect it to be seized into the hole, remove it carefully to stop it breaking when you remove it.

    Did water ever make a difference to you? I get the same (and more) errors from the car and I have an error about an ABS sensor on the car. Only happens when its wet though!

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 года назад

      Nope. The fault I had was on constantly and since replacing the sensor has never re-appeared in any weather and being from Scotland means it has had plenty of wet weather testing. You should maybe follow the wiring back from the sensor and see if the insulation is damaged anywhere and check the plug connector to make sure no water is getting in to cause a false reading.

    @BTJustice why didnt you clean out the hole that the sensor goes into before putting the new one in?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 года назад

      Because there was nothing in there to clean out and sticking anything in there thats not the sensor runs the risk of damaging the magnetic strip on the wheel bearing that the sensor reads.

      @@AstonishingGlasgow they say clean the abs ring and use compressed air i dunno

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 года назад

      On older cars with toothed reluctor rings I would clean the dirt from the teeth but on this car its a smooth magnetic strip on the back of the bearing so I chose to replace without pushing any dirt into the hole or disturbing any particles that could end up scratching the surface of the magnetic strip.

    Hi, I have exactly the same problem and exactly the same car :)) I am planning to have it scanned tomorrow and see what sensor is faulty, wanted to ask where did you buy the sensor and it’s an aftermarket one or you got it from Audi dealer? Thanks

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 года назад

      I bought a Bosch sensor from an online supplier and a cheapo from Ebay to try. The cheapo from ebay is working fine so you might want to try that? Two from ebay are cheaper than the cheapest bosch one I could find so if you can be bothered changing it again in the future (as they might not last like a Bosch part) it might be worth the saving.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 года назад

      I dont get the TPMS warning as I dont have it fitted to the car and I only have Halogen lights so wont be fitted with self levellers. Thats probably why I dont have those warnings.

    Hi guys..... have an audi a4 b8.. does this sensor pick up on reluctor ring that's on the cv joint? Just going to attempt to change drive shaft with new yet they haven't sent a new reluctor ring as they have said sensor picks up on the wheel bearing and hub.
    There response below
    Hi the shaft is correct, Audi have removed the ring from the drive shaft, the abs is operated from the wheel bearing and hub on the later model, we have checked your registration proceed and fit, your removed shaft will be the same, also your bolt on newer models is re used not like earlier models.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 года назад

      What they are saying is correct. There is a thin magnetic strip on the back of the wheel bearing that the sensor reads and be careful not to nick or scratch that surface or the abs fault will reappear.

    Am I right in saying you had to replace the wheel bearing as well? Did the sensor change work for a while or did the faults remain and you changed the wheel bearing to fix it?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  2 года назад +1

      I bought the car with the sensor fault. The reason the sensor came out so easily is because the previous person had scratched the back of the bearing and damaged the magnetic surface so I needed to change the bearing. I did make a video on changing the bearing and sensor on the other side if you look through my other videos.
