- The time has come to service my 2008 Audi A4 (B8) 2.0Tdi
In this video I will tackle an oil and filter change, air filter change and fitting a new cabin filter.
As this engine is shared with other Audi, Volkswagen and Seat cars the process will be similar on most 2.0 TDi engines of the same age.
If you want to jump to a specific job, these are the times for each chapter.
2:30 Draining the oil
3:25 Removing the oil filter
8:20 Changing the air filter
11:10 Cabin filter
16:10 Resetting service interval

If you found this video helpfull and it saved you spending a lot of money at a main dealer or garage then I would be really grateful if you could drop me a wee donation using the super thanks button and help me make more of these videos. Thank you all, Dave.
Great video, good humor plus the magically disappearing bricks at the end! I also have a VAG TDI and have used a vacuum oil extractor for the last 8 years. Saves getting under the car to remove the sump plug. Also my under tray is only held on with cable ties now and is a right pain to remove and fit.
Round here the criminals leave your car on wheels and steal your bricks...........
Found this video as I’m preparing to do my service this week, Great instructions without having to say a word. Thank you for this. The oil filter was a good bit of bants also
Great video thanks. Watched this then attempted it for the first time and was all done in under 40mins.
Fantastic! Glad you got sorted.
Changed my air filter no problem thanks to this video!
Glad it helped!
Good and quiet job
Gracias por tu video. Un saludo de Alicante
6:15 so funny ahaah that little box just went back to the place again xDD
Brilliant brilliant, that’s me, just chucking things the side to get the job done 🤣 great video
Great service! 👏
Well done! Thanks for the video! 👍
Really great video! Thanks a lot!
thanks for reply for the polo 9n loving the videos
followed this video - brilliant
Great video 👌
do you still own this car? What parts did you change?
I still have the car and in the six years I have owned it I have replaced a door module, front springs, front track control arms and ball joints, thing belt and water pump, discs and pads tires and service parts. It has been a fairly reliable old bus.
Very good amazing you never said a word. How many litres of oil does it take as their is no dip stick is there
Cheers. My car took the full 5 litres. My wife's Golf has the 2.0tdi and has a dipstick so to be sure it was the correct amount I used the golf dipstick to check the level before draining the Audi. Once I refilled the audi engine I used the dipstick to make sure it was at the same level. You can buy dipsticks for this engine on ebay but you would need to cut the engine cover to clear the pull ring on the top.
Excellent.
Hello, thank you for the video. Is it 5L or 4.3, I am confused now because one mechanic told me 4.3L of oil, and I usually put 5L.
My handbook states 5 litres of oil which I have used for the last 3 changes with no ill effects.
Yet another great no nonsense video but why didn't you fling the cabin filter up in the air?
Ha! Thanks. I think if I had thrown the cabin filter box it would have landed about 1/2 mile away.
Just asking, have you torque specs for the filter cap and sump nut. Thanks 👍
I dont have the factory spec. With filter and sump, tight enough not to fall apart is good enough.
Hi, I have a question. What is the number of wrenches for the oil filter? 32 or 34. I would be grateful if you could answer
On my engine it was a 32mm. Dont know if its the same on all engines but thats what it was for me.
Thanks my car is audi a4 b8 2012
Very nice
Do you have a video for changing the brake pads? thanks
Not yet. Front pads are very straight forward but rears need the electric handbrake to be wound back.
@@AstonishingGlasgow Do you know what the torque settings are for the various bolts, front and back?
Im afraid not.
Excellent video. Do you need to install a new sump plug?
Thank you. You don't need to replace the sump plug but I would strongly advise you replace the copper crush washer to get a good seal.
Hi. Have you changed transmission oil?
Not yet carried out that task.
Great Job Combining Work and Fun 😂 i have same Car but always used a Castrol lll edge 5w30 for it almost 370k tel me what you think about Mobile oil
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I picked Mobil oil simply because the Castrol oil only came in 4 litre bottles but for a little more the mobil came in 5 litres and more than met the specification for the car. Seems to have been absolutely fine and done an oil change since the one in the video.
@@AstonishingGlasgow Great Nice to Hear that so fast thanks for the knowledge Keep up with goood Content .
Hello mate first i have to say thank you for showing us how u did the job. Fantastic.
I have a question coz i have the b8 also but avant its caga code motor 2.0 tdi automtic.you already cheer me up to make my own oil changes and stuff. The the thing is. Where or which components u recomend me to lift up the car and put in the same way you did? Sorry about for my english its not as complete I wish. The car weights aprox 2500kg .you know where i can find them?
Thanks for your time i did subscribe alreay. Amazing and beautiful job!.🤙🤙
Hello JJ, thank you and I am really glad you find my videos useful.
I have never bought a set of the car ramps you see me use to lift the front of the car. I usually pick them up at garage sales or flea markets for not a lot of money. They can be bought new in car accessory shops and there are plastic versions available on Amazon. For this sort of work I far prefer the ramps over jacks as it is so much easier to yse them and the car is a lot more secure when on ramps with chocks on the back wheels.
@@AstonishingGlasgow thanks for replying it helps me a lot. I will try to find the ramps near here ( live in Malaga.Spain.) and like u said its all about safety and more accesible to the car. Fantastic job 10 points ratio thumbs up 👍. I will write you by time to time we have same car 🤩 i love it.
Appreciate cya 🙏👌
No problem. As a sneak preview to upcoming videos I have all the parts here to do a front wheel bearing and wheel hub change so when I find the time I will be making that my next Audi video.
@@AstonishingGlasgow forgot to say mate . I use Ravenol Vmp 5w30 or Ravenol REP 5w30 Acea C3 for our car . Full Pao plus Ester combo . I pre flush the motor with an aditive dispersant for cleaning inside this product is Xenum M-Flush i use after i extract the old oil i use a new one with this combo(xenum) i do 100-150km to clean and let the product do the job and then i go back to the garage and i extract again the oil combo system then i use new Ravenol for 10-15.000 km . RAvenol / Extreme GTI VR2 5w30 or RedLine are good oils . Acea c3 505/507 vw. And for Coolant i use Ravenol OTC Motor Protect G+12.(30-35e) Pleasure to add info ;)
I thought there was a hatch on the undertray to facilitate oil service without having to remove the entire tray?
I wish there had been but I certainly didnt see one. To be honest, its not a great problem to remove this front undertray and if I had really wanted to I could have pumped the oil out from the top but I think this way makes for a more thorough oil change.
Yep, you are right did mine the other day, no hatch!
Хорошее видео.Спасибо.Продолжай.С меня подписка на твой канал.
where did you get your battery drill
Its just a screwdriver. Aldi middle lane special.
Do you have a power steering fluid exchange video
Not yet.
Do you know the difference between the oil change and the bottom service in the MMI display? Mine says the bottom one is due but the oil change itself isn’t? Own my car for couple of months now so I’m wondering.. otherwise you make great and helpfull videos, used the wheelbearing video last weekend, but it was so corroded it took me and my mate 6-7 hours to change it. 😂
The bottom service is the big service. That covers Brake fluid change, belts and water pump. Glad you got the wheel bearing done and corrosion is the enemy. I had to change the full steering knuckle on the left front and got so fed up trying to get the top arms out that I stopped filming the video so I know your pain.
Your supposed to do the filter first unscrew the filter lets the oil drain down into the sump then drain the oil and the replace fiter and new seals
Makes not a jot of difference. The sump plug was still out when I changed the filter so the minimal amount of oil in the housing still ended up in the catch pan via the sump.
Hi, how did you reset the service interval(inspection)? Is there any way that i can do it using combination of buttons or something like this? Through the menu i can reset only the oil service. Thank you :)
I didnt have a service light to reset on my car, just the oil service. You will need to use Vagcom, VCDS or a good code reader. You can also live with the service light and keep a record of when everything was serviced.
Obd 11 resets it
You will need a code reader to plug into the OBD port.
I had a look at my mmi you can reset in the car menu under service and oil change
Why dont i háve the oil level option in my a4 2008 avant?
Thats odd. Do you have the same diesel model and no dipstick?
@@AstonishingGlasgow i háve 2.0 tdi 105kw, do i need to somehow install the option on the oil level? I have no dipstick neither, previous owner only changed the oil in audi services
I didnt need to install anything and with no dipstick it is really the only way to know what the oil level is. My level screen is in the car menu then scroll down past the bottom of the screen and its in "check oil level".
Would you know why my Audi randomly beeps three times every few minutes with no warning lights on the dash?
Thats an odd one. Is it while you are driving that it beeps? May be that the speed warning is set to on and its beeping when you get above the speed it is set to.
@@AstonishingGlasgow I know it's very strange it's like a seat belt warning sound. The speed thing is turned off in the settings.
@@AstonishingGlasgow yeah it's when I'm driving.
If I come across a reason I will let you know or hopefully somebody will see this comment thread and let us know.
@@AstonishingGlasgow thank you 👍
Or maybe that was on the Beemer I had previously.
my CAHA takes 4.8l why yours 5?
My engine is a CAGA engine and 5 litres is the recommended amount.
@@AstonishingGlasgow what level on color mmi and service mode(black and white) it shows?
All levels are fine on the MMI screen. If it was overfilled I would have a warning message on the MMI but the level shows as full.
In this video when you turn on the car i can see a bad engine support/mount
Please enlighten me, I cant see how you would have come to that conclusion?
@@AstonishingGlasgow because mine had both engine mount in bad shape and when i started the car it was shacky and in the video i did saw your car doing not exactly like mine but similar.
Btw love your videos , thanks for this amazing diy you are creating.
bro, where is Polo? I like Polo 9n
Might have an update soon.
Where did you get those ramps
Ramps like these are available at most motor factors. I have been given these ramps and a few other sets over the years by people clearing out their garages. Very useful for jobs like these.
mate you forgot the most important filtrer for power and consumation the fuel filtr diesel ....
No i didn't 😉ruclips.net/video/2-QVVXdOu0A/видео.html
Excellent work. How much oil did you put in? It looks like I have the same engine, but on 2009 plate. That oil dipstick on the right is just a cap, with no dipstick in it. I haven't managed to find an oil dipstick to use in there; wonder is anyone else has? Thanks.
It was listed as requiring 5litres. My wife's Golf has the same 2.0tdi engine and that has a dipstick so before draining the oil I checked the level with the dipstick from the Golf. Once filled I checked the level with the dipstick again and it was at a slightly higher level but well within the safe range so it took the full 5litre bottle.
@@AstonishingGlasgow Your videos are very professionally created. Very impressive.
I usually chuck in 4 1/2 ltrs in, warm the car up then top up the remaining level using the mmi screen level. The car has to be warmed up and then stopped for a few minutes to get the level displayed on mmi screen.
I think the correct amount is 4.75 litres if you want to be really fussy.
what about fuel filter?
Check out my other videos; ruclips.net/video/2-QVVXdOu0A/видео.html
Have this and a bmw 3 series with the m47 engine. It’s ridiculous doing the bmw. Takes me like 2 hours and the Audi takes me half an hour. That air filter is in an atrocious position in the bmw
You forgot the fuel filter bud.
Why did you not change the fuel filter under the driver side sill???
I did; ruclips.net/video/2-QVVXdOu0A/видео.html
I have the same car, every 1000km i have to add half a liter of oil. Anyone has the same problem with 2.0tdi?
Voiture audi a4 modele 2010 essence 5 litre oeil a mouteur???
Je ne sais pas pour l'essence A4, j'ai un diesel. Vous devriez trouver des informations dans votre manuel.
