Hi can you please tell me whether the ohms range for the 2007 Audi Q7 3.6L V6 abs wheel speed sensor ohms reading should be between 980 -- 2350 ohms ? And testing the voltage at wheel connector spinning the wheel one full revolution every two seconds I guess what should be the DC voltage readings be ?

Very useful tip using the hook tool I would say it's a definite. Audi charged me a fortune when they changed one on the front I did this in 10 minutes. It helps if you use the car jack to lift the car up a few inches letting the wheel and hub hang so it gives you more room.
Good video gave me all the information I needed 👍

Excellent tutorial! Really impressed with the camera angles, the lighting, and the detailed explanation of exactly how… to use a pick tool on a reluctant connector. I’ve seen half a dozen tutorials on this topic, but this one is far superior to all of them!

Great tutorial…..cleaned mine….worked for 1 day, then got the warning again, so ordered a new sensor.

It's pretty amusing you uploaded this so recently ... I have a 2008 GTI Mk5 and started into what seems like a very simple little part replacement but holy crap, these things are made of soft plastic that will bond to the corroded metal, and if that stem of the plastic sensor was not greased when it was inserted into the metal housing, you've got a fun day on your hands because it will not come off. And if you try to force it off, it will snap and leave you with a flush stump, the bane of every shade tree mechanic. I believe mine were original factory sensors and they were NOT greased, and the only way to get it out was to get the chisel edge of a pry bar under the sensor and gently leverage it out, but that still broke it off at the stem head because it was so badly seized inside the hub. I had to tap a wood screw into the plastic stump by hand with a mini-screwdriver (there's not enough room for a regular screwdriver back there, much less a drill) and then use a pry bar to back out the remaining stub using the exposed end of the screw. DO NOT SKIP GREASING YOUR PARTS, GUYS.

CHECK the 404 relay once the speed sensor is fitted , it lives under the hood in the engine bay fuse compartment, the relay can trip and cause a 00814 error code , all it needs is swapping or unplugging and replugged to reset the contactor inside it , I've heard many a poor soul replace the brake servo & ABS to fix a simple problem and cost £1000s as its so difficult to diagnose...p.s ALSO the wheel bearing could be bust and the magnetic coil inside compromised this will also give you a 00814 " break in magnetic coil " fault .

Is it worth unplugging this fuse while swapping out the sensor, or even connecting a slow charger to the battery while carrying out this work?

@liamscott555 not really depends on the age and fuel type of the Audi , sometimes it can affect the ABS module if you don't change the speed sensor soon enough

    • @leehopkins6983

I agree it can affect your ABS module, as its very rare you ABS is used so when the sensor fails every time you start your car the ABS locks on for 5 seconds or so until it releases , this happened to mine and caused and ESP FAULT! Took ages to clear bit eventually after driving it around and a bit and when safe slammed the brakes on this soon reset it.

Thank you very much very helpful! You could indicate that sometimes it could make all kinds of warning lights not related to this.

The fact that you said this can be applied to many different models along with saying that the sensors are the same for the front and rear isn't entirely accurate for every VW/Audi. On my 2012 VW GTI the sensors are slightly different for the front and back and I'm not just referring to which side they go on. The tips of the sensors are actually shaped a bit differently. The rear sensors have a raised "bump" part on the tip that the front sensors don't have. Just something to be aware of.

A4 B5 Quattro M/T is a nightmare on fronts... Had to remove CV shaft and pound out sensor from inside wheel bearing housing. Long punch and hammer. File all rust out of speed sensor hole. .. Then install the new stainless compression sleeve (with antiseize on bearing housing) and then grease the new sensor so it doesnt corrode to the compression sleeve.
Took about 6 hours to get it swapped out..
The date code on the speed sensor I removed was 2000.. Original sensor.

Does this need coding? Or just plug and play?

They are sided, but on a few cars it will be front right/back left or front left/back right. I have my Q5 and it is this way.

Hi I'm changing abs sensor or wheel speed sensor whichever is the right title. Do I need the lights on the dash cleared prior to fitting? Or is it a case of fitting sensor then clearing? Or fingers crossed does the fault just disappear? Many thanks in advance for any help - Jamie

Hi, my car is throwing a ton of warnings, namely the abs sensor, from my research all that data is pulled from the wheel speed sensor? Is this so? Second, I know that these are cheap off Amazon? Ate these parts reliable? Is there an advantage of buying a bosh one(as I believe bosh make these parts for Audi VW, and my instinct is to buy OEM for these kind of things, anyone share thoughts or opinions? ) the errors did go away after driving the car, I scanned and 3 faults still showed, still related to this, I cleared them, so going to monitor to see if they need replaced. Lastly, is there a way to determine which one is faulty? Is it safer to just replace all sensors where necessary? I have a 2017 model Audi A3 1.4 tfsi. Any input welcome

Had my brakes replaced and the ABS lights came on while driving from mechanic. Now VW is saying $511 to replace sensor. But im wondering if its just a fuse, or a code from the brake job. Not sure if i can do this myself but $511 is a lot.

Do it yourself or find an independent shop that specializes in vw/audi. If possible, find someone with vagcom. They can scan it and tell you where the problem is rather than guessing what part is failing.
