The Philippines is not claiming the whole sea. Just the integral part of philippine sovereignty. Lawfully and rightfully legitimate. Whereas China is claiming the whole sea named after them. I wonder if the whole Indian Ocean is being claimed by India?

It probably can be the future of the Philippine if the Philippines continue allow the Chinese take control. Now in Hong Kong, China have control the economic of Hong Kong and control the politics of Hong Kong. It makes the Hong Kong gov not do any policy that good for Hong Kong people but send all money to benefit China. I hope my fellow Filipino can be strong and dont control by Chinese. I am not encourage you to fight with Chinese. But you can try to less involve with Chinese business and support more local Filipino Business. Make our nation strong again!

He probably is not even aware that HK is a part BUT seperate economically to China. I'm Filipino Taiwanese, and I can understand both languages...
I do not like China for its sly movements on their "allies", especially the infamous "debt traps" like what happened to the south Asian countries like Sri Lanka and some African countries whom China "helped", but hey China's ambition of spreading it's influence; gaining a good image by aiding poorer countries = finding their infrastructure development, isn't bad at all, however there are risks, if the country does or does not develop it'll be trapped under China's debt. China's purpose is like this : "once you developed with our help, it's time for you to pay back with "interests" " . What China is doing isn't out of pure goodwill but rather business. And also in exchange, those countries ought to give their natural resources to China, just like how Philippines and Taiwan gave USA electronic exports and natural resources in return. What I'm saying is "if you offer them nothing, then nothing they will give to you." ) Now with the issue in South China Sea, the reason why China is in good terms with Philippines or Vietnam (or is trying to be in good terms with) is because they know that their claims were invalidated by the UN and waging war against both of these countries would result into a direct confrontation with the United States. (China's growth depends on its trade with the west, and USA can ignore it's debt from China if it wants to, if the west Cuts trade with China and blocks the SCS along with Taiwan independence, they'll get locked out and implode from the inside.
Now Duterte, he is known to be the punisher of the Philippines and what he is currently doing is he is trying to balance relations between China and USA, even if he denies it, USA is still one of the biggest contributors to the Philippines and the Filipinos trusts US more than they trust China. (Even though US made them its vassal state, but I guess trust the lesser evils?) Most filipinos always resort into saying he's selling Philippines to China? It's nonsense, China doesn't have any interests of taking over the Philippines, it only has interest of taking over Taiwan (kase punyeta sila) . It's all money and trade talks.

In addition, the lives of Hong Kong citizens are the internal affairs of China. Please stop intervening and stop nuisance to the lives of residents in Hong Kong and Macau.
Filipinos are not allowed to deal with people from China, Hong Kong, and Macau. They had to obey the people of China, Hong Kong and Macao.
This is because the English level of the people in China, Hong Kong, and Macau is not very good, but Filipinos, you have to know clearly that the Chinese, including the mainland, Hong Kong and Macau, do not want you to exist. They hope that only Thais will come back. Thais, whether they are Chinese, Siamese Thai, Mon, Lao and Daiyuan, they all have Chinese ancestry. In short, the relationship between Thailand and China is deeper than that of the Philippines. The Philippines is just our cash cow.

After World War 2 and Japan surrendered, Article 2(f) of the 1952 San Francisco Peace Treaty clearly states that "Japan renounces all right, title and claim to the Spratly Islands and to the Paracel Islands.”
This renunciation of the two island groups, and of Taiwan itself, was confirmed in the U.S.-brokered 1952 peace treaty between Japan and the Taiwan-based Republic of China (ROC), then recognized by the United States and Japan as the sole legitimate government of China.
After recognition changed to the People's Republic of China, the June 7 1996 - UNCLOS states that "The People's Republic of China reaffirms its sovereignty over all its archipelagos and islands as listed in article 2 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the territorial sea and the contiguous zone, which was promulgated on 25 February 1992." The PRC's territorial land includes the mainland and its offshore islands, Taiwan and the various affiliated islands including DiaoYu Island, Penghu Islands, Dongsha Islands, Xisha (Paracel), Nansha (Spratly) Islands and other islands that belong to the People's Republic of China.
Furthermore, during the imperial times, the Philippines and Vietnam were all tributary countries and states that "the sovereignty over the South China Sea belongs to the Qing Dynasty." During the early 20th Century, the Qing Dynasty did a formal naval exercise over the South China Sea in order to ratify that claim. However, China was too weak and was ignored. However, during that time, the Philippines and Vietnam were colonies of French and America, therefore, had no independent claims over the sea.
Therefore, China's claims over the South China Sea is realistic and uncontestable.

Next you'll be claiming all of us Southeast Asians are just really brown Chinese, and you are actually our masters and we should bow down to you and submit to your authority.
In fact that's already what you're claiming by saying we are your "tributaries". LOL. Doesn't matter if it was merely a diplomatic mission in the past, we were automatically "tributaries" even when you had zero political influence or control with any of our kingdoms.

Even today, they have almost zero voice in the sovereignty of their ancestral lands that they've lived in for thousands of years. Instead they're just barbarians to you who have no rights. "China" means the "middle country", whatever people/party occupying the Central Plain will be the China, and whatever ruler who got "the Mandate of Heaven" will be seen as legitimate emperor of China, as Kublai Khan - the founder of Yuan Dynasty - declared himself to be one. Mongolia became part of China by occupying the Central Plain, rather than Chinese taking the Mongols' land, and as a result, the two countries were merged together. Outer Mongolia exists because of USSR intervention.
Meanwhile, Han people are genetically extremely diverse (think about Finnish and Greek). They are only united by some related cultures, such as Ancestor Worship and Chinese characters. And again, Manchurians and Inner Mongolians are not seen as outsiders at all.
"Tribute state" has a complex definition which changes through history. A clear character of tribute state is that such a state only had a king, and its policies were more or less subject to consulting Chinese emperors, as the case of Korea and Ryukyu during Ming dynasty. Japan always had its own emperor, that's why Japan has never been a tribute country to China.
Interestingly you mentioned Taiwan. I do agree that immigrants from China did what Europeans did to Native Americans to Taiwanese Aborigines, and we should always be sorry about that.

    I'm sorry for this dispute.
But China is not a aggressive country and Chinese people are peaceful people.(we are the descendants of farmers. Our cultural concepts are all about social harmony, produce and manufacture,to win without conflict.)
In history, we build the great wall to keep the barbarian out.Not to invade them.
This dispute,it is seemingly between China and Philippines. But fundamentally , it is about our countermove for USA's hostility towards China in west Pacific.Sadlly, China has become very sensitive since the Opium War.
I don't want to make excuses for my country's rude behavior. But, considering our misfortune in the past 200 years, how about we just try to understand each other more and find a way through this.
Respect for Philippines and Philippines people.

The problem is, china wants the land that the Philippines have, and the Philippines didn't put it up for sale and didn't want to give it up. So its considered pretty messed up when you walk to your neighbors home and take their stuff. If China wants to be cool with the Philippines then they should offer protection and open up better trade deals freely, and maybe let go of some of the debt. One of these things are nice, and the other is not. Also if your neighbor across the street is being hostile to you, don't steal from your next door neighbors. Stealing is wrong, even if its diplomatic.

I don't understand why this people keep talking about Duterte surrendering the Philippines to China. Duterte never declare that. No president surrenders a sovereign nation to another but he can declare war. .Would you declare war to China because of territorial disputes? If so smart to run the Philippines this people should run as president, I want to see how they ll resolve the conflict between two nations. Glad bilateral relations with China has improved because of Duterte he is a political genious.

  • @boaoftheboaians
    @boaoftheboaians 6 лет назад +5

Here's a Filipino's opinion on the Chinese government: Not only do I dislike the CCP, I utterly despise them. Duterte's domestic policies are rather decent but I am most concerned with his foreign policies, especially when it comes to China.
It should be worth noting that Duterte is a left leaning in terms of political compass which may show why he likes China
Now China.... of course we avoided a war, but I am not willing to sue for peace to give away any of our territory! Yes, I'm one of those who feel Duterte is giving concessions to China.
And if you think the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) is the only border issue China has.... oh boy you're in for a long ride.
China also has border disputes with Japan (Senkaku Islands if i'm correct), India (Two border disputes in fact: a mountain pass in Bhutan if and that heated border-disputed area known as Kashmir which Pakistan has a claim to as well, albeit they're friendly with China to the point they even gave up some of their claims for China), and none other than their democratic counterpart Taiwan whom they claim the entire island as their own province. The only countries I have not heard about China having border disputes with is Mongolia (formerly a USSR satellite state) and the former Soviet republics bordering China (Tajikistan, Kyrgyztan, Kazakhstan & Russia).
The fact that China has all these border disputes and has been aggressively dealing with them recently should speak something to any of you reading this, should it not? Add in the fact China has growing influence in the world, even in Europe and especially in Africa. Countries that have huge debts to China especially are the most affected, with Djibouti in Northeast Africa being the most prominent example there. (I mean, China's literally trying to get an overseas military base there! If they don't already have it.)
Also, through a certain channel I watch on youtube, I've seen how China treats its people, both bringing the past and present here. (Looking at you, cultural revolution desecrating traditional Chinese culture. The fact the same political party of the person that starved 79 million people to death is still there as the authroity and continuing some similar values disgusts me.)
So overall again, I utterly despise them. The government that is, not the people, my personal view of the Chinese people (By that I'm referring to the ones in the mainland) is different.
    That's a Filipino's opinion on China.

+ even if Tibet was a slave society, what happens there now is not better, people are tortured, kidnapped (6-year old 11th Panchen Lama was kidnapped in 1995 as one example of many) and imprisoned just cause they still stand up for Tibet, historical buildings are destroyed and their culture is being wiped out.

Politicians always make deals that benefit them, even if it means selling their country to a foreign nation. China is financial powerhouse because they bring money, invest, and take over the local economy. It's already happening in parts of Europe.

few decades ago Philippines were the second richest country in Asia, and what about now?
you guys should ask yourselves who is your number one enemy, who treats you like a piece of garbage thrown away after use? and which country is using you as a pawn against China. the South China Sea was calm before the pivot to Asia policy of that country in 2009.

Other way around champ. The pivot to Asia happened after plenty of Chinese moves.... But nice try.

Territorial disputes with Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei. It seems like China wants to expand its maritime borders.

Even as a strongman himself, Duterte needs three things to save Philippines out of misery:
    1. Weapons and materials for his war on drugs
    2. International support against human right accusation
    3. Foreign investment to rebuild his country
There's one country that can provide all three and Duterte is a wise man. Guess which country?
