    Cool experience for you! Hawkers are classics with some interesting challenges. There is no baggage compartment so it all goes behind a curtain next to the microwave and coffee maker. They are a bit noisy inside as well. They are good value on the market when stepping up from a older Citation. They are a fraction of the cost of a new CJ3/4 or Phenom - although operating costs and maintenance are a lot more. Always pays off to make friends at the airport! Keep up the great work Kay.

  • @user-mm3dk7cw3n
    @user-mm3dk7cw3n Месяц назад +30

    The autopilot “issue” may have just been a quirk in how the heading bug works in the ProLine 21 avionics system. The setup in the video is that they were taking off runway 9 (which is a heading of about 090 degrees) and they were told to turn left to a heading of 330 degrees after takeoff. The short story is, if the heading bug knob was turned to the RIGHT when it was set to 330 degrees for the turn after takeoff, then the airplane will turn to the RIGHT. There are techniques to ensure this doesn’t happen but shutting the automation off and flying manually like these guys did is the right way to solve the problem (at least initially). Centering the heading bug on their current heading and spinning it LEFT to 330 degrees would have solved the autopilot logic issue and resulted in the desired LEFT turn. At least that’s my hunch, it could have been some other actual issue but the autopilot seemed to work fine for the rest of the video.

    • @fuhkerz
      @fuhkerz Месяц назад +3

      You can see that he turned the knob to the right at 4:08 when they got the heading from ATC, so you're probably right.

    • @user-mm3dk7cw3n
      @user-mm3dk7cw3n Месяц назад +3

      Upon further review, watch when the pilots are entering the runway for takeoff and reading the 330 degree heading assignment back to the control tower. The captain is turning the heading bug knob to the RIGHT to set the heading. This leads the airplane to turn to the RIGHT when the autopilot is activated in heading mode. No judgement here; I’ve made the same mistake before. Unfortunately though, that autopilot “malfunction” was pilot induced.

    • @cooljimmy92
      @cooljimmy92 Месяц назад +1

      Oh yess !! Looks like it was pilot’s mistake , A/P seems fine

      Agreed, the HDG selection could have been better managed. What you described is typical on the Honeywell and Universals as well.

    • @johnaclark1
      @johnaclark1 Месяц назад +3

      Had this happen on ProLine 4 systems back in the day. Best practice is to line up on the runway, push the HDG sync button in the middle of the heading knob, then turn the heading the direction of your turn. Otherwise the airplane may turn the wrong direction, as happened here. You can sync in the air and then turn it to your assigned direction but better to do just as these guys did and turn it off until you have time to deal with it. Nice work.

In a high performance jet, that should not be happening during sterile cockpit below ten, no matter what Part it is being operated under. There is a very good reason for it. There should NEVER be idle chit chat below 10,000 feet in a jet aircraft. Period. As a former airline pilot(CRJ-200, MD-82, F-100, A-319/20/21), I was shocked by it. That plane is FAR too fast to be playing it loose like that. I'm sorry to chastise you, but I have to.
