  • This video is my first adventure bike and first ride. I took out my new KLR 650 and started to understand how the bike handles and understanding it better. The KLR 650 even found it's way to some back roads.

Harley rider of 16 years. Born and raised in Detroit. Left without looking back in 2020 for the Blue Ridge mountains in NC. I picked up a 2022 klr 650 for $6200 last Thursday, and I'm in the same boat. Seems to be a good machine, plenty of comfort, can ride almost any terrain. It's definitely not a Harley, but a pretty good compromise for here in the mountains. We'll leave the light on for you, brother.

After that, I’m just gonna ride her for a while to see if there’s anything else I really want to do. The tusk crash bars are just really nice. Here’s to good riding for both of us.

I’m mostly a commuter and the mods I’ll be doing aren’t as many as a lot of the KLR owners I’ve seen on RUclips. I recently bought more off pavement oriented tires for my bike, what a difference!! The bike does so much better now, and my confidence has improved dramatically!! Other than Bark Busters, my only suggestion is to just keep getting off pavement, as Rich (Boots and Jeans Riders) says, practice brings progress!! Congratulations, you’re going to love every second of it!!!

Figured I would like this and cant wait to ride some more, is the DR 650 similar?

    • @Doug_Morgan
      @Doug_Morgan Год назад

@@bodeanaventures Bob between the 3 (Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki) the Kawasaki is the most street oriented. The Honda is the best in the bush and the DR is kind of in the middle. The Honda XR 650 is a monster off road but not near as comfortable on the highway and has no oil cooler. It also has a 37" seat height which many have difficulty with. The KLR is the best on the highway but pays for it with more weight etc off road. The DR does not have the range or comfort of the KLR but can be outfitted with a larger tank and windshield. Offroad it cannot catch the XR but is much easier to handle than a KLR. All of them are great bikes, the guys that ride more on the street gravitate towards the KLR, those that are mostly off road the Honda. The DR has a huge almost cult like following (as does the KLR) and is affectionately referred to as the dirt pig. I just put a set of knobbies on mine for better grip off road. I have rode it on the highway over 100 miles away and back cruising at about 70 mph without any problems. It is a blast around town and exploring gravel roads and trails. I try not to get into hard core off road but I manage to find myself there anyway. That is why I put knobbies on it over the winter. I have a video of it on my channel.

Wave to everyone. Theres some unspoken rule that mostly holds true where Harley riders only wave to other Harley riders and hate sportbike riders, yet sportbike riders wave to everyone, and in my experience both try to go for the loudest bike in the state. I ride mostly highway and commute on mine, so there really isnt much I want to modify, but im sure once i hit more dirt ill find something.

Love your new bike. I'm looking at an orange 2022 Traveler . I had a 2009 klr650 and I took it on dirt bike trails and it's a handful. The weight of the bike was just to much for that kind of riding. I've kinda been on the fence about getting another klr650 but I don't think I can hold back now that you got one lol . My other bike is a 2003 cvo roadking and I'm wanting something lighter, just not sure if I'm going to be able to keep 2 bikes. Wife doesn't get it lol .have fun.

Try a Triumph Tiger 1200 some time. I'm 6'5" and that bike made me tip-toe the pavement while sitting on it. It's an extremely tall bike. I've ridden some KLR650s in the past. They were my introduction to dual-sport motorcycles. Having ridden other makes and models, the KLR just doesn't do it for me anymore. I craved something with more to give. I settled for the Suzuki V-Strom 650. It has been an absolute unit!

Weighing in on the "wave". I am not a fan. I belonged to several MC in my youth and really enjoy the brotherhood of fellow bikers, but many times it seems forced / fake and is distracting, especially for new riders. The real spirit is in helping and hanging out, and watching out when on four wheels. Anyway if someone waves and I am in a position to wave back, I do. Also, the type of bike matters not, self powered units are some of the most bad ass riders I know! A big wave to my fellow road warriors!

Someone already said bark busters next should be bars for the sides then a good skid plate. Not sure now what they come with. Do a lot of research on automatic chain oilers. Some say it works well. I might have opened pandoras box with that one. This might depend on a lot of factors.

  • @KLRmurdercycle

I like the height in traffic. The upright position. Shifting is a technique you'll figure out, slightly heel out toe in with mx or adv boots. 6.4 you might need bar risers while standing.
Ya she's a slow turner, like a cruiser with 21 front, but is very flickable with aggressive counter steer.
Some riders say this thing is too cumbersome and slow. I say level up and what the hell is the hurry?
Tires, meh just wear the stock Dunlops out then try something else. I like the Kenda k270 over the Shinko 244. They wear about the same, 12k to 15k km but the k270 is better off road. It's side wall bites a little better.
The more aggressive tires, the more buzziness on the hwy. Oh man, but when you put pure MX or knobby road legal tires on the KLR it will tractor any where your talent will take you😄
    Any trips planned?

    • @bodeanaventures

Nice bike. They wouldn't let me near the new ones when I went to the dealership for a test ride. They had a used one that they let me ride the hell out of it. I guess the zero miles ones sell for more. So I see why they wouldn't let me. But they are so dishonest they wouldn't tell me that's why. I bought the used one. I got a good deal. I wouldn't let them tell me they needed to charge anything extra. I got the taxes and title built into the base price.
