I had last years released firmware 1.1.3 and it was amazing until the recent star link update with quite a few issues of swamping, video loss at close distance, beeping of controller at distance, star link reset 3 to 4 times. Updated to beta 2.0.8 and no issues.

My biggest concern is manufacturers overstepping their responsibility (and ignoring that the pilot is taking responsibility, as in manned aircraft, cars, boats, etc) and adding disabling mandatory airspace restrictions. I hope Autel will not make this very unwelcome move. This is THE reason I will never buy another DJI model, as amazing as they are. Thanks for the video!

I did update my XSTAR Premium to V 1.3.3 and only thing I've seen improved was braking and takeoff speed.
It's unfortunate it's taking so long for Autel to get this bird right but that ok I guess because like I said I'm not impatient!
I build most of my own hexa and quads and to be totally honest my S500 with Pixhawk 4 fc and 3 axis gimbal with GoPro hero black flies way better than my XStar and I can get way better footage with my S500. The turning with the XStar is still almost impossible to get smooth footage while in a wide turn. I just can't get the XStar to turn smoothly right or left!! It turns but the yaw is still jerky and you can't get a smooth turn with the yaw the way it is. I have Adjusted the yaw in the new settings but it actually mad matters worse so I went back to default settings 🙁.
I still love my XStar but unfortunately I don't use it anymore if I need smooth footage and if I need to fly in tight quarters I definitely won't use it because it's still to unstable. My S500 which mind you only cost me around $300 to build flies way better.
Again thanks for the video and I hope Autel can get this bird right but unfortunately in my situation they are way to far behind. Hell if I can build a platform in three days that works great you'd think Autel could get it right.

Thanks for taking the time. I only own one XSP, so I couldn't do a comparison like this. But the difference between the new and old firmware was dramatic. Love it even more!

Great video. I am a bit disappointed though. Many times I could not see a difference in them. All this time and this is the best they could do? I had very high hopes for Autel. I thought they could become a viable option for those who don't like the DJI offerings. This video has changed my mind on this. It is still no competitor to DJI. My DJI products are rock solid, this is not fanboyism, this is fact. I was hoping I could say the same for my pumpkin.
LuvMyTJ Have to remember Xstar has only been out for a year. And it is a basic drone. But it does serve its purpose. Just wondering what else you were expecting from update?
great video, I did the upgrade when first come out. works great. seems to be a lot snappier. only thing I get like you said is video interference. hope there is a fix for this soon. thanks again

Nice comparison, but I worry the FAA will frown on dual operation with one pilot. It's too bad it has to be that way now but you had better be safe than sorry. You should do this with a split screen edit next time, this is valuable intel and I'm sure to get the newest update downloaded asap to our X-Star Premiums.
+D W Yes I agree about the dual operation, and I was going to do split screen tests, but time was short and either drone ever reached 30' AGL. Still not an ecuse for breaking the rules.

Thanks a lot for this comparison as I have been considering upgrading and this definitely shows a fairly true representation of the differences of the old and new in as you and the surroundings allowed. Just one question, have you noticed any difference in video operations, including video on the banking turns if having been done. Thanks again, very well done.

Beta should be made available within a couple of months according to Autel. I like the improvements a lot especially the braking. And the starpoint is now On point! I agree that it probably uses less satellites because of the updated firmware. Dont think that will matter too much. I have a question, when you fly and record video for 20 minutes and then look at that 20 minute vid on computer, is the vid file broken into 2 files? This happens to me all the time. Its kinda annoying. Great vid. Dont care how long it is! Its the nature of comparing. Thank you Sir. I wanna get my hands on a FLIR cam as well! Whole new ball game then! ☺️

no they do not while in operation, but i have found that when you leave them connected to the controller while you charge them they do

Thanks for awesome video, just updated my firmware. You mentioned that you have a different battery in one. Which battery is that , struggling to get batteries in SA so it would be great if you could use a alternative battery.

Dude you need to either seriously trim this down, or put a table of contents for the highlights of the video (with timestamps) to tell people where the actual useful information is.
45 minutes is ridiculously long for what is ultimately watching drones hover with you adding commentary every 20 to 30 seconds.
Thanks for making it, but this is practically unusable for people who don't have 45 minutes to get 3 minutes worth of information.
Another update just came out. Version 2.0.1. This version makes a few more adjustments and is supposed to fix issues addressed in this video and others.

It's on the Autel homepage. There is a box under that big picture of the X-Star Premium that reads, "Firmware Beta Program". You click there and get a welcome screen with some statements and terms of responsibility. There is also a place to enter your name and e-mail as a terms agreement. After all that you'll get a page showing the "what's new" points, some notes, and the video on how to update. At the bottom of all that is the download button for the X-Star Premium and the X-Star wi-fi. Right above that it reads, "Firmware Download v2.0.1.
