Very cool plane, well done! I think you could boost the battery range by a significant amount with other motors. These high KV drone motors with their small propellers are not exactly efficient... A lower KV motor with larger propeller would be much more efficient.

    • @pereoz

    • @christiansprojects-cgmanuf1426
      @christiansprojects-cgmanuf1426 2 года назад

@@pereoz In general, the bigger the propeller is fort a given amount of thrust, the more efficient it is. Also, there's a simple rule of thumb for RC-Planes: At about 300 Watts per Kg weight, the plane will climb vertically. So for this plane, I'd suggest 200-250 Watts per Kg. This would be about 60 Watts for this particular plane. So I'd choose something like a 2204 Outrunner (27mm Diameter, 20-25g weight, 80 Watts max.) and probably a 7x4 prop. Something like this would for sure be more efficient than two high revving drone motors.

The Pixracer autopilot and flight controller is $120, GPS module is probably around $50, TBS Unify for FPV video transmission is about $40, Runcam Split for video is about $70, those high KV drone motors are probably about $50 for a 4-pack, ESCs for them maybe $20, servos around $5, and probably around $5 for some foam board and carbon strut.
That brings the total investment for his setup on just the plane side of things up to about $360ish, however, the cost of everything else needed gets just a bit more expensive, a Dragon Link for telemetry and control is $330 for a full kit with transmitter and receiver, the Fat Shark Dominator HD3 FPV goggles were $450 a while back. I'm not quite sure what radio transmitter he's using, but 300-500 bucks will get you one that accepts telemetry signals from the Dragon Link.
FPV, even on the cheap end, can still be quite an expensive hobby. It's significantly cheaper to build a cheap park flier foamy like the plane in the video without FPV or any autonomous flight capabilities, could probably build that plane for a lot less than $100.

Land them in stabilize mode, it removes max/min pitch limits compared to fbwa fbwb or cruise.
    Good Job. Cheers.

Dude, I am so very impressed with this plane and your building and flying skills!! I build and fly foamies and I am building a new modified delta to practice flying the elevon type planes. I have a new AR 900 that is waiting to be built with long range GPS flights in mind. I am glad I subbed and I wish you would share the plans on this build with us. 👍👍

I think this is a cool demonstrator with all the law stuff.
Could make it even more "safe" by building light wing loading/protected props eg. shrouds
    thanks for the parts list

Enjoyed every part of this vid bro.. Even the sponsored advert part (I usually fast jump past those) I totally died laughing and it was probs the best sponsor segment of a youtube vid I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing that!

Can you please go over the components, both what's needed on the plane, but also for the transmitter? This is really cool. I only fly quads, but planes are tempting to try, due to the increased fly time.

I love watching your autonomous adventures, and would enjoy seeing a build video on that little wing. Very Cool! BTW, you didn't need to worry about the headwind affecting your battery level. The plane had a tail wind on the way out, so it used less power to get half-way. The total power round trip should be very close whether there is wind or not. Unless, of course, there is so much wind that the plane can't make ANY headway on the return leg.

Great work dan. I love that idea of small gps wing. Good to see it in action aswel. That last flight when you come in to land all those birds follow you in
👍🏽😁 I think they where swallows or house martins. Look forward to your next vid mate.

Also, I learned a good bit more about headwind and getting yourself beneath the wind to be able to regain some speed at lower altitudes. I've been using your trials and picking up little important pieces of information with each one that you come out with. Keep doing you man, can't wait for the next one! Much love and respect from California!

It is so weird to see this lake now, back in HS I spent 100s of hours training on this lake. (I raced wildwater kayak, and we used the lake for flat water workouts)
And I used to run XC races in woodland park! Havent really been back to Seattle since I graduated, so weird!
