Thank you for that tutorial. I have a GC510P with a similar interface and continue to struggled so much when troubleshooting my home network. I have zero network background and was just trying to set IOT in my house. Again simple straight forward!! There are not alot of videos on Netgear equipment with this interface out there so this is very helpful
Thank you dude, I've been trying to work out why my untagged port wasn't picking up a DHCP IP from my VLAN for the last hour! Setting the PVID from VLAN ID 1 to 20 was the fix. Cheers!
Thanks for this video. I was struggling for hours to setup a vlan. I wasn't expecting to change in the PVID. Was able to continue after setting the PVID configuration.
Thanks, this vlan setup in NetGear switch uses a different way (compared with Cisco or Aruba), it's good to see this practical config that you have to setup PVID for VLAN untag.
Hello! and Thank you for an excellent demonstration. I've been struggling with VLANs for days now. In your video (@6:17), you remove Access ("U" -> blank) for Ports 3 and 4 on VLAN 1 (the Default VLAN) in order to move Access for VLAN 10 to Ports 3 and 4. When I try to do that here, I get an error ("Error! Management access will be lost on MGMT VLAN configuration...") and I cannot make the change. I assume that is because I am using "PC1" or "PC2" (in your nomenclature) to manage my NetGear switch. But it appears that you are using either PC1 or PC2 in your "excellent" demonstration and you are able to make the Access changes. What am I missing here? Thank you for your consideration.
Well, I may have found the solution. In System/Management/IP Configuration, I can change the switch's "Management VLAN" to another one in order to then remove Access from VLAN 1. Naturally, the default VLAN for switch "management" is "1". In the example you show, it would have to be changed to VLAN 10. After you change the "Management VLAN" you must reconnect to the switch using a PC that is a member of the newly identified "Management VLAN". (I haven't done this yet... after this change, I expect to be able to remove the Access from VLAN 1 for the identified port (in your example its either Ports 3 or 4). I will try this...and report back.
NOPE! That didn't work. What I did: 1. Created a new VLAN (ID=400). 2. Set Access for the PC (managing the switch) to "U" (couldn't remove Access from VLAN 1 - see above) 3. Tried to change the "Management VLAN" to 400 (see above) but I could not - "Error! Management access will be lost on MGMT VLAN configuration..." 4. Went to play golf. Does anyone have any ideas?
Hello so basically I was accessing the switch over WiFi. If you see the mgmt IP I have in the browser is 192.168.0.x which is from my home network. You need to keep the MGMT IP same as your Data Vlan i.e. from where you are going to manage the switch. Hope this helps.
So by default the switch comes with IP 192.168.0.239 or something so if you want the mgmt to a different IP then you will have to change this first. Also remember to route between the vlans you'll need a layer 3 devices. Best to leave the mgmt same on vlan 1 and then you can configure other ports on other vlans however mgmt will be possible from vlan 1 port.
Hello, could you help me with the following, how can I create a bandwidth limitation per port, for example on port 1 give a limitation of 50 symmetrical megabytes? greetings
Access port or untag port can be members of one data vlan and one Voice vlan. If you want more than one data vlans on a link then you will need to use a trunk or tagged port.
Depends what you will plug on those ports remember end devices don't understand trunking 802.1q packets. So if you have end devices then you will need to use untagged/access ports.
I am configuring aruba 2930f and i am facing an issue there is one default ip to login to web console right after i create 5 vlans and making all ports to trunk/ tag i cant access the web portal with that default ip can anyone help me
You will need to have a management vlan or just the vlan 1 and a port which is member of your mgmt/vlan1 then you will able to access the switch. If you've made all ports trunk/tagged then you probably need to consule in to the switch and the changes or reset to factory defaults.
@@technogeko1985 can access through the console there is no problem while accessing through the console As per you suggestion what should i do Should i connect my Lap with example port number 1 and untag that port then add that port to vlan 1 right
@@relaxmed3517 so the port needs to be on your management vlan either vlan 1 or whatever you have Setup. You probably need to set a static IP on your machine on the same network as your vlan1/mgmt vlan to be able to ping or browse it. I never used this switch what is the mgmt IP by the way?

Thanks for posting this. Very helpful in the field.
Tagged == Trunk port (and thus Untagged == Access) . Thats the key to understand Netgear's naming madness...
My left ear loved this video!

This was awesome. PVID got me, never had to configure that on other switches. THANKS!
me too, hahaha
Thanks for creating this video. Was really struggling with the configuration until I watch this.

Is this switch support LACP? I am only see LAG option from this video. Thanks en advance.
That was helpful, thank you for sharing it!
solid info, thanks mate
Glad to help
i have a netgear GS724TP and I want to connect it to my BT ONT ISP ? Can this be done?
Yes you can, however I am not what sort of setup you are trying to achive with the switch. If simple all on same VLAN then it should work.

How to connect 2 netgear switches together? VLAN 10, 20 and connection to internet on both.
You will need a trunk/tagged link between the switches and make sure required vlans are allowed on the trunk link.
