You're definitely right about the finesse for removing the audio ic. I haven't developed the flip technique, it's on my list. Currently I prefer moving the chip laterally first to confirm all pads are wetting temp before pulling up. The amount of heat required feels like it's almost twice as much as the Meson was for the 6/6+. I'm amazed at how well this board eats heat.
I am glad you didn't end the video. I Love watching your videos. You are the best at explaining what you are doing. I've watched others that never explain what they are doing and what they have done. Thumbs up.

My iPhone has been stuck in a bootloop for the past month, and only now am I taking it to the apple store to repair it. I was very worried about having to do a full restore and erasing all the data off of my phone, especially since I don't have any recent backups to restore from and I have all my important data on the phone. This gave me a bit of hope when it comes to getting a my phone to a place where I could back it up for good measure and transfer the data to a new device (since I will be getting a new phone with more storage anyway).

Thanks for this video it helped me understand better wth is going on with my phone. In the middle of watching a video my screen went black then stuck on apple logo loop. I just requested a job ID hopefully it's easier than this one.
Hello. to fix pin C12 audio and do not need to remove it, you can insert a wire. the thread is inserted through the side of the audio chip by removing the bumpers (only the nand side) and r3201. this variant is tested and running, it raises the risk of disturbing the baseband
I have a iPhone 10 and it is stuck on a boot loop. Trying to restore with iTunes doesn’t work and I’ve tried third party softwares that don’t work either. Please help
There's no need. The wire, the trace and that leg of the IC, all solidify together. The only real danger of bridging is while the chip is being heated.
Hey man, thanks for what you do. I had my iPhone repaired last year by you and has been working amazingly great! It was a different issue than this one. Unfortunately, I ran into this issue as well. I was transferring my data and I left my phone unattended and I saw the black screen with the white apple logo on it (so similar to this except for what the screen looked like) I will more than likely be sending it back to you because I want keep my data intact... I do not want to lose it. Now, quick question: did it take you to the welcome screen because the phone was already reset or will the repair reset the phone and make you lose all data?
hi- Enjoy the way you talk and explain. You are so easy to listen to. Glad I found your videos. I am having the worst time with a hand me down iPhone 7 from my brother. I have tried everything- Programs that I have downloaded and trying to put it in recovery mode and so on. The phone is stuck on the logo and that is it. At times I will have charged it the whole night only to take it off the charger and it will not last long. Based on that is this phone fixable? Or should I forget about it and just buy a new one. He had said that it was frozen because he took so many photos of his son that it jammed the phone. Help- I trust your advice. Thank you in advance for any any of your words of wisdom- K
Not sure if you’re still dealing with this issue anymore but although it definitely is fixable, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. It could very well be a lot cheaper to get a newer iPhone (doesn’t have to be the newest or even brand new) but you’d get a much better deal that way. In terms of your iPhone 7 I’d say put it up on eBay explaining your issue and if nobody’s interested just get the trade in value and use it towards a newer phone with your carrier or sell it for parts through one of those recycling services. Goodluck!!
Got one with the same problem today reballed and did the jumper but still in apple logo think my jumper moved or something after a nudge will try it again tomorrow.BTW awesome job u got it on 1st try
Love your videos. have an iphone 6 plus stuck on iphone logo and battry doesnt seem to charge. bought new battery and replaced charging port bus still it was stuck on logo for sometime now my new battry is flat again :)
Curtis this is the second reply I’ve seen you make when you have no idea what you’re talking about. This man needs his Tristar IC replaced in his iPhone 6 Plus.
Dude I fix 200 or so phones a year for resale. Not perfect and I’m always learning but I have a lot of experience fixing these models.... are you telling me long screws in the wrong place wont cause a phone to white screen or boot loop? Cause it absolutely could. I don’t claim myself to be an expert, but I know some things. Admittedly I don’t do microsoldering, but everything else I’m very experienced.
Just got into electronic repair and soldering. Ran across your channel and am already a fan. Question, where do you get your supplies and parts? I started with repairing PlayStation controllers and finding parts is surprisingly a lot harder than I thought or maybe I should have never gone to ebay as everything on there is fake or as cheap as can be.
Mobilesentrix is awesome for parts and some component level stuff. I order a lot of board level components from Digikey, supplies from All-spec and ICs from Aliexpress. I don’t know much about console repair though! Digi-key and All-Spec are sure to be helpful.
It would most likely be nand, cpu or ram. After iOS 12, they will boot without baseband. I run into nand faults really frequently tho. Especially 128gb phones for some reason. I really should make a new video to update this one.
Another great video Jason! I'm watching them in a random order :) Was wondering, are the customers normally very upset when they have to bring their phone back after a repair? How do you deal with them and the situation?
I succeeded in my Iphone recovery!... Without this software. I updated Itunes, Updated windows. pressed up then down quickly while pressing on the on/off button. Hold the on/off for a minute. Then I repressed on/off + volume down for 1 minute or so until support.apple link appeared. I opened Itunes. Did the recovery/update (did it like 10 times and I had to take a walk before I throw my Iphone 7 in the laptop). Maybe it was the timing, but 5 hours later. I redid the same steps... And It worked!
Will you be able to save the data stored in the phone at some point during this job? The phone in the video was reset to factory, but can you fix it without a reset? My 7 plus is boot looping and I don’t want to lose my pics etc. is there a way?
Hi jason, I have question, how much/many phones would you guess you'd practiced on before you took the plunge and opened a shop? I'm getting tired of buying ebay phones that 10 people have already messed with and i really don't want to go back to driving trucks :(
Oh man, I learned on the fly mostly. Getting started my first microsoldering jobs were cheap android tablets and I did horrible work. I remember botching a few Galaxy S3 charge port repairs too before having a microscope to see how badly I was screwing them up. Well, I mean - they would work but were not good at all. It was really tough getting started. If I didn't have other things bringing in money, I would have never survived trying to switch strait to board repairs. I was tending to business customers who needed IT work + fixing a lot of computers and screens. I did that until I no longer had time to do the other stuff and had to spend all day every day on board repair.
Hello sir, i have a little question about an iphone 7 plus, my cousin change the display with a new one about a year ago and a few days ago was trying to sell the phone and reset all configuration, after reset the touchscreen was unresponsive, when he restart the phone from vol down and power the touchscreen works normally. He want to know if is a problem with display or the IOS 12 detect the display if is not OEM? The touchscreen dies when the phone is power off with shutdown, after restart the touch is ok and works.
Just a question, but how do you know by what issues the iPhone's have will point to the cause of the problem. Say for example a liquid damaged iPhone that will not power on via usb to laptop or by it's own battery but will power and get stuck on a boot loop if plugged into the wall, what place on the logic board would you check first for elimination? Thanks.
I bought it from a local insurance agency that used it as a customer checkout counter. I just got lucky that the top-deck was the right height for the microscope post to go through. I drilled a big hole and then mounted the base directly to the bench top. I didn’t plan to do that when I got the bench. It just happened to work after I struggled finding a good spot for the heavy, factory base that came with the microscope stand.
Hi, Is this sympthom familiar? iPhone 7 boot loops, but if I disconnect the front camera flex, it starts, but touch-id and home button doesn't work. But, if I reconnect the front camera AND disconnect the home button, the phone starts too.. I just can't have both parts connected at the same time. I've tried new screen and new front camera flex. Motherboard issue? In that case, which chip? One of those in your video? Btw. ear-speaker works, but not front camera, prox or light sensor.
Nice video! Have a similar A1784 phone (iphone 7P) in the same boat. Will review the process to fix the same ball. Any reason why you did not just attempt to reheat the IC from top side rather than remove the entire BGA and then reball to fix? Perhaps missed it but this is not the tristar IC - correct? We have some of those incoming, just in case
Wow, very impressive video. Learned a lot. Things I had not seen or heard before. The reason I watched the video is that I have an iPhone 4 that does not boot beyond the Apple logo. Cannot fix with iTunes. Suspect something is broken.
My iPhone 6 has the loop problem but they way I avoid it is never letting my phone die and keeping it active 24/7 (by playing music 24/7) or RUclips alllll day . If I leave it alone for like 2 minutes it’ll restart over over again. Sometimes it takes 1 loop or several hours
Over the past 20 years, I have purchased more than 25 cell phones and 15 tablets and not a one has ever had any issues. The list goes from Nokia, Blackberry and on. In the last 5 years, I've been with Samsung. But in Jan 2018 I finally decided to give Apple a try and I was pleasantly surprised. I got an iPhone 7 Plus along with an iPad Pro 12.9 and they have worked great together. I use them every day. I keep them as must as possible out of direct sunlight, leaving them in a HOT CAR and always buy a Great case to protect them. I've watched friends and coworkers treat their cell phones and tablets like a child treat an old toy that they don't want anymore. Also, back in 2014 I picked up an iPad Air 2 for the first time as a main On The Go Tablet and have never looked back. So I must be lucky.
Hey man nice video, I have an iphone 7 that was in really bad condition so much as for the screen and housing but worked without any problems . I changed screen and housing and now it bootloops..the strange part is that it only bootloops when the charging Flex is connected..If i disconnect it powers on without any problems...Any ideas or suggestion?
Common flaws is the best I can say here. Many times I go strait for checking shorts on baseband power lines (specifically PP_1V0_SMPS5) because it saves me from wasting too much time on a no-fix. If PP_1V0_SMPS5 is shorted, it's the end of my repair. No heat, no soldering iron, no checking for shorted caps. It's the baseband CPU shorted. I think just about any line could get broken though so outside of detectable shorts, we are left with checking for continuity and comparing diode mode measurements against known good boards.
My iPhone 7 Plus got stuck on the apple screen but eventually got it to come on. Now it says no audio devices found. Could this be the same issue. And if so, can you just replace the hole board? I don’t have the tools to solder on the board or the experience. If the board is changeable do you know the part numbers to buy a new one?
Out of no where my phone screen went black with the loading on it, but it was still on because I was on the phone with my friend while it was doing this. after I force restarted, it got stuck on the apple logo screen. I do need an update and have been needing to update for a long time now, but now that I hooked my phone up to my computer (the same computer I have used before to update), iTunes is now telling me to respond on my phone to connect... so I cant seem to update or recover or really do anything at all.
I'm really sorry to hear it. It sounds like yours is hung on an Apple logo like the phone in this video where it starts all the way up to the lock screen (so it thinks) but the display is still showing the startup/Apple screen. So far, it's been the audio chip that causes this sort of a hang up. If you are just trying to run a back up, I could imagine if the phone was a bit warmer or colder at the beginning of start-up, it may go past this without having to do any soldering work. Is very very tiny broken connections that cause it so I think just a temperature difference could affect it to temporarily make it work. The iPhone 7 has been a real lemon. I think I've lost track of the amount of faults that cause them to hang up or loop.
The problem is the Audio IC chip. It’s a big problem with the iPhone 7. I have one with the same problem. Takes a long time to boot and when you call someone it has no sound and the microphone doesn’t work and speakerphone is grayed out
Great video! I have an iPhone 6 plus that randomly gets caught in a boot loop. Eventually it will stop after a few hard smacks on the back...then works great for quite a while. I've replaced the LCD, the battery, cleaned the charging port, software update and restore. This happens with both battery and charger. Movements have no affect on inducing the problem...sitting on the table it will randomly begin its loop. Still no dice...think this may be an IC issue?
Phew, what a video tutorial! More drama than a Pacino action (?) movie. I love your tenacity and determination to get the repair right first, or even second time. Bravo! However, why in blatheration don't Apple provide you with diagnostic software to identify faulty hardware components and save you as a busy electronics engineer so much valuable time? Loved your video. Fanboy now? Best wishes.
I hate it when i think i have repaired something and it plays up later. Or even worse, i take something apart and can't find a problem, it works great and does not fail again, really really annoying, i've done it too many times to count. :-( I think that phone was pissed that you didn't use colgate toothpaste on the cleaning brush, "Clean white capacitors and a minty smelling charge socket." :)
It's really easy for baseband to become detached during audio IC rework. It takes only a tiny bit too much heat. I have had it happen to 1 or 2 of them.
thanks for the video i was wandering if u have ever come to fix the no sim or sim failer problem in the i phone 7 of u u have any i dea what the reasion is would be greatfull for any information or video !
is this a normal problem with the iphone 7? the same thing happened with my iphone 7 and i sent it to apple. instead of fixing the problem they sent me a whole new phone
hi jason, im hitting max 0.42amp on dc, having bootloop issue on an iphone 6. should i check v bat and pp5v0_usb as i dont think its vvc main as it bootloops
Being hung up on Apple logo and/or boot loop can also be a proximity sensor/front cam flex assembly failure as well. I've seen it happen on both the 6 and 7 series iPhones. Just posting in case it helps somebody else that's trying to troubleshoot this booting issue.
Can it also be the home button? I'm also curious if it is indeed the home button, can you detach it and be able to use the phone without having the home button attached?
It can be many things. Since recording this, the firmware has changed and I have not ran into an audio IC causing boot looping in a very long time. They mostly just cause audio problems.
@@ststele Have you seen boot-looping caused by half-torn digitizer ribbon? My iPhone7 plus stopped bootlooping after replacing screen, but now just boots to the restore screen. Talks to iTunes but Restore fails at the status message "Verifying Restore with Apple..." Bad NAND?
I bought this one from iPad Rehab Supply www.mendonipadrehab.com/supply-store#!/Universal-DC-Power-Squid-Battery-connector-4-4s-5-5s-5c-6-6p-6s-6sp-SE-7-7p-Samsung/p/96316018/category=0
ive had this to be a software update problem, but but phone is so low on battery (1%) so i cant do anything. when i connect to a power supply, it turns on after so many loops and i try a to get into restore mode (volume down + home) i get there but when i now have to connect to my mac, on doing that, it goes off immediately. When i connect to my mac so i can use iTunes, it doesn't get enough power to even start up and remains in a boot loop and when i try to enter the restore mode, it won't work.

Tapiwa Mangozho you have some screws in the wrong place more than likely
Mobilesentrix is one of the best they offer great warranty for their parts
Mobilesentrix is awesome for parts and some component level stuff. I order a lot of board level components from Digikey, supplies from All-spec and ICs from Aliexpress. I don’t know much about console repair though! Digi-key and All-Spec are sure to be helpful.
Placed an order with Mobilesentrix earlier in the day. I’ll check out the others too. Thanks much!!!
@@ststele patiently waiting for a new video!
I see you enjoy the new power supply unit!
Very good. I like it
My iPhone 7 Plus is stuck on Apple logo I reball audio ic and nothing there’s no short on baseband could be the pmic baseband?
It would most likely be nand, cpu or ram. After iOS 12, they will boot without baseband. I run into nand faults really frequently tho. Especially 128gb phones for some reason. I really should make a new video to update this one.
STS Telecom damn I remove the NAND and my jc p7 didn’t recognize I’m screwed
Love the video and total take apart and reassemble! All in 1 vid awesome!
Hi, thank you for the videos. All the way from Colombia. 💪
Another great video Jason! I'm watching them in a random order :) Was wondering, are the customers normally very upset when they have to bring their phone back after a repair? How do you deal with them and the situation?
Buy them a new phone
I hardly ever have any returns but most people are very understanding..
Jojo, if u destroy their phone, yes - u should buy them a new one. Renault is asking about warranty returns on a reoccurring or new problem.
I succeeded in my Iphone recovery!... Without this software. I updated
Itunes, Updated windows. pressed up then down quickly while pressing on
the on/off button. Hold the on/off for a minute. Then I repressed on/off
+ volume down for 1 minute or so until support.apple link appeared. I
opened Itunes. Did the recovery/update (did it like 10 times and I had
to take a walk before I throw my Iphone 7 in the laptop). Maybe it was
the timing, but 5 hours later. I redid the same steps... And It worked!
My iphone 6 is same...i changed the battery... It also happen...now what can i do??
Great video man you're a good teacher :)
Will you be able to save the data stored in the phone at some point during this job? The phone in the video was reset to factory, but can you fix it without a reset?
My 7 plus is boot looping and I don’t want to lose my pics etc. is there a way?
Scary Stuff
Hi jason, I have question, how much/many phones would you guess you'd practiced on before you took the plunge and opened a shop? I'm getting tired of buying ebay phones that 10 people have already messed with and i really don't want to go back to driving trucks :(
and i guess I'm asking how much you learned "on the fly" or where you the polished technician we see today?
What did you use to connect the phone to your PC? 3utools?
Hello sir, i have a little question about an iphone 7 plus, my cousin change the display with a new one about a year ago and a few days ago was trying to sell the phone and reset all configuration, after reset the touchscreen was unresponsive, when he restart the phone from vol down and power the touchscreen works normally. He want to know if is a problem with display or the IOS 12 detect the display if is not OEM? The touchscreen dies when the phone is power off with shutdown, after restart the touch is ok and works.
He Said it happened with me and was a software issue
“I’ve seen Stranger Things turned out to be a success”
Half life 3 confirmed.
Thanks.
tristar is responsible for charging, but you need to track down the short and one of the best ways to do this is a heat test/ freeze test.
How do you go about the heat / freeze test? Any links or info would be great
where did you buy your desk from to hold your micoscrope in place. i been looking for one like that. love your videos.
Some RUclipsr
Try to update or restore once
Battery connector nearly always pops up with lifting the shield above it. Good thing it does really!
I don’t ynbjjj
Bob Ross of iPhone repairs. “Happy little chip balls”
Hey im from the caribbean ...nice work.....you makin me feel to get into ph repairs...lol
Any tips on pinpointing issues related to baseband reboots without just trying new bb pmic or reballing bb cpu?
Common flaws is the best I can say here. Many times I go strait for checking shorts on baseband power lines (specifically PP_1V0_SMPS5) because it saves me from wasting too much time on a no-fix. If PP_1V0_SMPS5 is shorted, it's the end of my repair. No heat, no soldering iron, no checking for shorted caps. It's the baseband CPU shorted. I think just about any line could get broken though so outside of detectable shorts, we are left with checking for continuity and comparing diode mode measurements against known good boards.
STS Telecom Do you get a lot of 6s baseband issues error 4013? They seem hard to pinpoint
Could you please suggest how you managed to turn it on? Mine is stuck in a boot loop.
My friend, is it possible for you to explain or provide me with the dimensions of your work table and the method of installing the microscope?
I think I've lost track of the amount of faults that cause them to hang up or loop.
hi how are you apologize what is the name of the microscope you use. thank you very much from ecuador.
Great technique to reball the chip. So you just float the soldering iron over the solder balls. Is that the technique?
Clarkstain funny my iPhone6s does the same thing
Clarkstain its IC issue
how did you know that IC has problem? your work like magic . brother explain
I see a Taranis xd9+ up there. What do you fly?
Only my 450 size project quad at the moment. I want to get back into planes again one day tho.
Great job sir!..Enjoyed the trouble shooting repair tutorial 👍🏽!
I hate it when i think i have repaired something and it plays up later.
Or even worse, i take something apart and can't find a problem, it works great and does not fail again, really really annoying, i've done it too many times to count. :-(
I think that phone was pissed that you didn't use colgate toothpaste on the cleaning brush, "Clean white capacitors and a minty smelling charge socket." :)
Well Done, great repair and results. 😊👍👍👍
have you ever had a problem with the imei missing after the ic audio replacement ?
It's really easy for baseband to become detached during audio IC rework. It takes only a tiny bit too much heat. I have had it happen to 1 or 2 of them.
Great video but believe me the water seal makes a big difference
thanks for the video i was wandering if u have ever come to fix the no sim or sim failer problem in the i phone 7 of u u have any i dea what the reasion is would be greatfull for any information or video !
is this a normal problem with the iphone 7? the same thing happened with my iphone 7 and i sent it to apple. instead of fixing the problem they sent me a whole new phone
blue neighbourhood they are doing this crap all the time because of this faulty ic

question -----why do you spend money on caned air when you can have an air compressor outside and just run 6mm pipes to your place?
we really love your videos and way of teaching
hi jason, im hitting max 0.42amp on dc, having bootloop issue on an iphone 6. should i check v bat and pp5v0_usb as i dont think its vvc main as it bootloops
3:20 @STS, what do I need to buy to get a power supply tester like yours?
Apple Repair New Orleans No just plug your phone with a lighting charger, thats not really needed.
It’s relaxing 😌 great tools for anxiety
Thank you :-)
Hello, i just wondering if there a way to recover data from an iPhone x boot looping i don’t wanna restore it because i didn’t do the backup
My 11pro max is now stuck, I only see the phone Icon large on my screen and can not get my phone to turn off. Is this the same as above?
iPhone 7 and 7plus models have loop disease board issue
Which brand of screwdrivers are you using?
Very good help thanks I was thinking of reflow it but might have to reball it lol.
I see you have a rc controller on the shelf, is that hobby of yours or just in for repairs?
Hi STS, do you take students for training? I’ve always love to be one.
What sort of micro tools do you use!
Thank chad I’m gonna try to replace it cause my iPhone apple doesn’t go away 😥
38:08 did u put that thing upside down 🤔
are audio ic's a usual culprit for boot looping or can it be anything?
It can be many things. Since recording this, the firmware has changed and I have not ran into an audio IC causing boot looping in a very long time. They mostly just cause audio problems.
@@ststele thanx, Jason
@@ststele Have you seen boot-looping caused by half-torn digitizer ribbon? My iPhone7 plus stopped bootlooping after replacing screen, but now just boots to the restore screen. Talks to iTunes but Restore fails at the status message "Verifying Restore with Apple..." Bad NAND?
no.
What is the name of the white connector cable you use?
I bought this one from iPad Rehab Supply
www.mendonipadrehab.com/supply-store#!/Universal-DC-Power-Squid-Battery-connector-4-4s-5-5s-5c-6-6p-6s-6sp-SE-7-7p-Samsung/p/96316018/category=0
ive had this to be a software update problem, but but phone is so low on battery (1%) so i cant do anything. when i connect to a power supply, it turns on after so many loops and i try a to get into restore mode (volume down + home) i get there but when i now have to connect to my mac, on doing that, it goes off immediately. When i connect to my mac so i can use iTunes, it doesn't get enough power to even start up and remains in a boot loop and when i try to enter the restore mode, it won't work.
I had this problem too most likely it the camera cable gone bad. Just try to open it, detached the camera cable and see if that works.
CWizzyTV I fixed the problem. It turns out the battery just got a little disconnected. I opened my phone, completely disconnected reconnected the battery. Everything works fine.
Where do you get the power supply adapter for the logic board?
