Hi! Great video. I've got the Helios 44M 58mm however when I put it on my Lumix s5ii with adapter I cna't focus, meaning it move the ring but nothing is in focus whole the time. Is this something with the adapter? Inifinity focus issue? HELP!?
Love the colours man, great work! Curios what adapter you used to pair your helios to your S5II? My Helios 44-2 KMZ won't focus and I have a feeling it's the adapter I'm using.
In my opinion, for these prices and camera capabilities, S5/S5II/S5IIX are currently the best choice on the market. In real conditions, I have never encountered moire. Only doing it specifically for the test. I think the chance of getting it by accident is too low to worry about it.
I have this lens with my blackmagic 6k. Every time I am using that standard sigma 18-35 or other modern lenses, I just want to switch back to this lens. I have one other vintage lens that doesn't quite give me this same character but it is crazy how drawn I am to shoot with this. I'm just doing "artsy" non-pro stuff, I'm sure if I was shooting a commercial or something, the clarity of the modern lenses would be desirable but for my current usage I'm drawn to the vintage look almost entirely. The one thing I miss is having the stabilization in the sigma lens. Also, I've wondered if some of the reason I enjoy the helios is b/c it is a prime lens and that forces me to think differently?
I think the reason is that it has a unique bokeh, unlike other lenses. And it's sharp only in the center. At first, I didn’t know that and wondered why my photos and videos were out of focus, even though I thought they were in focus... turns out, it was the lens. Yeah, in general, all vintage lenses have their own unique look, bokeh, and characteristics. Modern lenses are just too perfect and sharp, which makes them all look the same.
@@GEXAR I was going down the rabbit hole with vintage lenses the last few days and it seems like there is a huge variety from the really focused center/blurrier edges and interesting bokeh to ones that still have character but maybe aren’t SO stylized like the Helios I have. Pretty cool. I’m think of maybe trying a canon fd.
It's funny how different people react to Helions lenses. I personally hate them, hate everything about image they render but i love vintage Pentax and Minolta lenses :) Good video anyway :)
You are the first person from whom I hear this about Helios. I didn’t really like it either when I tried it on a camera with a 4/3 sensor, but on APS-C and FF I started to like this lens. Haven't tried Minolta and Pentax lenses yet, but I think their time will come too)
I actually do agree. Minoltas, takumars, and fd lenses are all beautiful character lenses without adding so much distraction from busy bokeh ilke with helios. It might be just us but it sometimes takes away from the story when theres so much going on the background
@@zaymax_7 I really love the helios lens but I agree. I often see people post images and videos where the "swirly bokeh" is gratuitous and takes away from the subject. To be fair, these are usually videos about swirly bokeh. :) I saw a recent episode of an apple tv show called "bad monkey" and they had a few shots with really over the top bokeh and to me was just way too busy. It wasn't a helios or anything but the same idea. Instead of a smooth/creamy bokeh, it had distinct bokeh balls that where moving and shimmering. It looked cool, I guess, but it was distracting.
1:23 is it without additional settings? did you reduce the contrast on the default color setting? Because the results before the color grading, the color seems flatter.
The video quality will definitely be better. Unfortunately, I deleted videos from this shoot that I didn't use, including those with normal FPS (so I can't upload them to you).

Hi, I had the same problem, you need extension tubes. I have a video about this: ruclips.net/video/6EVcEGCyJQI/видео.htmlsi=wnTNtNUNoKQqyCWy

Do you have a link to these adapters?
@@joelwilson153 I bought extension tubes from a local shop. Link to camera adapter here: shorturl.at/dluO9
I I totally agree, I'm in love with my Helios 44-2. And at the price you pay for them there is no reason not to get one.
I even thought about buying a modified helios, which is sold on ebay for 100-130 dollars, which gives anamorphic flares.
Where did you got them for a lumix s cameras ?
@@maristelagoncalves4710 You have to buy a M42 to L-mount adapter
Great work on this video 👌🏾✨
Thanks, we were just walking😅
is the s5ii good for professional video work and how about moire how bad it is.also in which settings you can reduce moire effect ?

Great video. What adapter are you using for this lens?
Thanks, all links and notes in the description.
@@GEXAR thanks man
Which adapter did you use?
Hello, this is an adapter ring, it will only work fine with extension tubes. In the previous video, I showed the adapter (Pixco m42-LT).

@@wuliwong I love unique lenses, you should try the MTO 1000MM. Even passersby came up to ask what it was😄
I love this lens too :) Did u use here 2.0 or 2.8?
2.0
@@GEXAR looking cool :) my 44-2 makes a noticable mist at 2.0 so I use it only from 2.8. I gotta check 44M-4 version.

use youtube speed up to find out
oh yes this Lens is amazing, I have some Canon FD Lenses and it is amazing how mich character it adds to a video, you dont get this with modern glass
I completely agree with you, especially on full frame and aps-c sensors, it shows its character. On 4/3 cameras, it is not so noticeable.
Beautiful bokeh 🤩
Really this lens is amazing

jupiter 3 so much better
I was just looking for which old lenses I should try. This one will be the first.
