i've got my first two years riding under my belt. on my RE Himalayan, excellent city bike. thing is a mule, it's not fast, never will be. but it's a capable bike. relatively cheap... and has ABS. dirt easy to work on/perform maint or mod. to me, looks cool. I get asked about it fairly often, and the small community of RE himi riders is extremely helpful and enthusiastic. I'll prob put another year or two on it... upgrade to a Ten700 but can't recommend it enough as a beginner bike
I own three bikes, my Himalayan was the second I bought most recently (I’ve owned probably 9-10) I keep it because I don’t need my off-road bike to be fast. It gets 65-70mpg and is great for off-road or short grocery runs. I use it as a commuter mostly and it’s awesome for it. Plus as you probably know, parts are so cheap and easy to fix. My sportster and softtail are way more expensive to maintain and while much higher quality built wise, are an entirely different experience.
I have my Benelli 302S for more than 2 years now...dont sleep on it! no issues so far and simply outshines any twin cylinder in the sound department. take a listen on it. one of the best sounding engines. period.
I've put 10k on my benelli 302s with zero problems and only regular maintenance. It's been a pleasure to ride, so much so I ended up getting into the leoncino trail recently. And that is seeming to go the same direction.
I have a Versys X 300 as my first bike. I love it. Pros: great mpg, nimble, but feels planted while you are riding. Cons: it's light enough and has a large enough profile, any sort of crosswind will definitely send you into a different lane. I also weigh 250lbs so it'll do highway speeds but I have to drag it kicking and screaming the entire way.
I understand the crosswind issue but I've never heard anyone saying Versys 300 as light lol. Only the P-twin V-strom 250 is heavier, and that thing was basically ADV Gixxer 250.
Must be around some crazy mountains, even when I was a skinny below 100 pound twig riding my 250cc enduro with 30+ mph crosswinds and 50+ mph gusts changing directions randomly I never went into another lane. 1 direction of the trip was highways around noon, so one side of my tire got worn down on the side from leaning over against the wind all the time, lol!
Hooray! Yam has wished death, castration, and swirlies upon my humble CB500f! Even included the stock photo of it at 3:10 to make sure I could feel the knife in my heart twist just that little bit extra.
Currently have a 1993 Kawasaki ZZR-250 for my A2 license. Plenty of fun revving to 15k revs with a dual exhaust and still be able to get 100+mpg if I try. Also does 0-60 in 6 seconds but tops out at 100 mph so you don't kill yourself. Only cost me a grand.
I just bought my first bike... I'm 6ft 3 and 235lbs, Yahmaha R7 is the best beginnger bike. Do not turn the throttle more than 70% open and youll be fine. even 100% open after a week of riding. Tons of fun
Well, I have the benelli302s in which I have already racked like 7000kms. It has great power for a 300 bike but, most notably, it is very very comfortable (the seat). If you are planning to get it, I would recommend buying some type of wind-shield because cruising at more than 60mph might not be the greatest experience for some new riders.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one that has one lol I got mine for the color mostly, green to match my box at work, and it's not too much power for a first bike. Awesome to hear no issues with it, I got a 21 and it only has 27.2 miles on it for now
Yea I just ordered a black windshield from alliexpress for my 302S, highway winds are annoying. It sucks I gotta wait six weeks to show up. They have some that specifically fit the bike.
10:08 Agreed about Kawa not utilizing their 400cc motor more in bikes like the Versys, would be interesting even though I imagine it would need to be tuned differently.
The frame was unfortunately designed with 250/300 engine in mind. Ironically and sadly, if any Versys 400 going to show up, it has 50% chance of using old 650cc frame with lightened parts. kawi had done this for decades, with 2018 Ninja 400 being an exception (it shares the frame with Ninja 250 2018)
I have been using my trk502 for daily ride for almost 2 years and and already put almost 50,000km. So far i am satisfied with the performance and there is no major issue occurs on it. There is also someone at my country that already racked up to 175,000km
Uhhhh.... I just heard you call out my RE 650's name out in the B tier and now I have to change my pants. Glad to see you guys have come around on the Twins! 😉😉
Loving my Gen 3 KLR as my first bike, I think I'll keep it even if I get another next year, or the year after. Availability was great, was literally the first bike I could see myself buying that I found in stock at a dealer. I might literally get a used Versys next, tried one out and it's so fun; the way to improve it would be to make it a bit lighter.
Another C type bike rider here. I got the TANK (KLR-650) 2018 model last year and farkled it up. I ride occasionally and the Tank is more than adequate for my old man rural style riding which includes a dirt road now and then. I did get a kick out of my buddy's G310 being rated at less...lol. @@sarahmanalapan8443 yes of course I know but Papa Yams talked about how the Leoncino is a better 500cc sportbike than the Honda. I’m just interested to know why he thinks so and would love a comparison video!

The picture on 8:19 mark is actually a QJMOTOR SRK 350 the engine of which is a bigger bore version of the 302s’. I owned a 2019 302s here in China it was pretty good and I was pretty happy with it but wished for a bit more power and a bit lighter weight. In the begging of 2022 I test rode the SRK 350 and found out it’s lighter and has more power - a much better, more complete bike. But I am not sure you can get QJMOTOR models in US.
I started on--and still ride--the Royal Enfield INT 650 (Interceptor in all the world but the USA). Not knowing any of the other bikes, I can't comment other than to say you've the Interceptor fairly rated as one of the top bikes. For me, the riding position was a deciding factor when looking at quality motorcycles in the same class. That it is a constant head-turner and compliment eliciting machine has been a surprising bonus. Know the RE Continental GT 650 is much the same bike but in a cafe racer style. Embrace the pain, Yammie. You added credibility when you and your sidekick admitted you were wrong about the Royal Enfields. Many compliments to both of you.
I just started riding in November. Never rode anything but a scooter and passed the MDF on a Honda Shadow 125, first try. I somehow managed to get my hands on a new Triumph Trident as my starter bike and it's been a blast. Thanks for all the awesome videos.
Started on a Royal Enfield - nice bike. Gearbox is great, smooth shifting no matter how hard you beat on it (Fortnine did a nice piece on the whole segment on how they have "stupidly over engineered the thing," makes sense.) Major complaints: 1. seat is uncomfortable for long rides (it's angle slides you forward, crotch first into the tank, HARD) 2. Electrical is a known issue. My speedometer just up and died randomly. on the way to the shop for a fix, it came back to life. New Enfields come with Brembos and they had a recall on all break systems, so that was reworked (mine had a swap after I bought it) - they tended to stick when cold, apparently.
Started on a Suzuki savage. I honestly think it’s a fantastic starter bike if you’re a cruiser guy but I had a good laugh. But what do I know, I ride a sportster now.
Got 1300 miles on my KLR in 5 weeks. Commuting to work in 29° and off-roading like a mf with stock tires. Can't wait to put some motoz rallz on it. I've only had my permit for 5 weeks also.
Yammie savaged the G310GS for being under powered but didn't complain about heavier bikes with less power. It's not a hardcore off road bike but the alloy rims are lightweight and plenty good enough for the dirt roads and slow trail riding that it's intended to ride and the tubeless tires are awesome. It's a good urban commuter that handles well and is fun to ride. Yammie's anti-BMW bigotry is ugly. :-)
Had a fucked up ‘84 magna as the first bike I ever rode and owned. Only things that worked perfectly on it were the engine and clutch. Hell of a learning experience lol.
@@yammienoob Still C and D are usually some decent options in your opinion . That is much better than the "don't get this bike" that F tier stands for . That's a step forward for Benelli in the Papa Yam motorcycle powerscaling. And with how much you affect the market with your recommendations this can only be a good thing for Benelli .
I literally just ordered my first proper bike today. And in keeping with what seems like internet tradition, I did not pick any of these :-) My ZX6R is on its way...eventually. Now if only it will come before the end of riding season...
Fuck yeah! D Tier! I'll have you know I hit 70mph on my Himalayan in FIFTH GEAR mind you. Yeah it was downhill, yeah there was a tail wind, and so what if it doesn't have a 6th. Shit bike gang gang.
Depends on how much commuting you plan to do from the get go and what your commute entails. Most people in that position would get the most out of something like the mt-07. I couldn’t even imagine taking my Himalayan to work every day
only two kinds of riders Yammie. Those that have been down, and those that are going down. Being in the former of those, qualifies me. Streetfighter giggy 750 was the last bike I remember owning., but the receipt i have says I was on a ZX-9. Being rear-ended in '07, and a traumatic brain injury, I would be in the latter category. Being in bed for , however long it was caused "footdrop". That means I cant shift! I even tried on a quad!!!
I got the Versys as my first bike and loved it. The engine is nice and easy. Transmission is solid and the looks are killer IMO. The only BUT for me is the rubber it comes with. It's awful. Low grip on pavement and no grip on off road. If you do get this bike I highly recommend getting good rubber.
100% Agree, I got MT60s on mine and made a world of difference. The bike really does need the 400 engine as well as a taller 5th and 6th for highway cruising.
@@talltale9760 having owned one I say don't tbh on the highway it sits at 8k-9k rpm and vibrates pretty badly. The seat is hard as a rock and you don't get into torque until you are higher up the rev range. I sold mine because I wanted something better for commuting. The 300 really runs out of power on the highway. I've been looking at either a Vstrom 650 or a CFmoto 650 mt. Although I might get a Taureg 660
I think the Ducati scrambler is also a pretty good but odd beginner bike. The price is not quite beginner friendly but if the budget is right then i think it's not too bad. I had my first tank slapper, lowside, drops, and other "oh crap" moments on it and I feel like it was a pretty easy bike to ride considering the sitting position is pretty comfy and it's not a tall ride. The only downside I had with mine was that sometimes the throttle was not responsive when I was blipping the throttle but other than that it was a great bike to learn imo.
I have a suzuki s40😂 it’s more fun than the ninja 300 I had because it’s not puke green and has more torque. it’s just a cheap, old &simple motorcycle ‘n that’s about it lol
I got a 2014 cb1100 as my first bike. less hp than a 600cc, but more torque. but a little heavy at 540lbs. I love it though and I think I'll have it for a long time before I start looking for something else
Now I feel like a mad man I started on a z1000 2016, on my second one tho i got rear ended on a exit ramp in jersey 🤦♂️ I have like 50,000 miles on the second one and my spare is a ninja 1000 2011
I got a 2018 XT250 because my father said I couldn’t get a “big bike” till I knew how to ride so basically I have to have the small bike for a nother year till I’m 18
I cannot believe the classic Suzuki S40 BIG SINGLE lost out to mini-motos and wannabe cafe racers with Chinese scooter engines that are not even able to go highway speeds. I just rode my SAVAGE 650 90 miles round trip to get cannabis across state lines. It was totally miserable and my hands went numb from the vibrations at 80 MPH, but it made the trip.

Thanks a lot! As an Interceptor 650 owner, I gotta clean my room now.
Just got my bike about a week ago, went with a 08 fz6 and its been a blast to ride
Thank you for saving us from the GSXR-pocalypse !
Got 1300 miles on my KLR in 5 weeks. Commuting to work in 29° and off-roading like a mf with stock tires. Can't wait to put some motoz rallz on it. I've only had my permit for 5 weeks also.
I got a BN302s for my first bike. Pretty fun and overall decent.
The fact I just bought a Leoncino 500 makes me happy :)
The new 500cc Hondas are far better than the benellis will ever be!
He put a 12 hp “motorcycle” in the middle......
Had a fucked up ‘84 magna as the first bike I ever rode and owned. Only things that worked perfectly on it were the engine and clutch. Hell of a learning experience lol.
I love how Yammie went from putting Benelli in F tier to putting one of their bikes in A tier after riding one . I hope he rides more of them .
They’re only A tier because it’s an “oddball” list - it’s still firmly C or D tier lol
@@yammienoob Still C and D are usually some decent options in your opinion . That is much better than the "don't get this bike" that F tier stands for . That's a step forward for Benelli in the Papa Yam motorcycle powerscaling. And with how much you affect the market with your recommendations this can only be a good thing for Benelli .
that should tell you something, hes a fraud
@@mhsucio6830 Why ?
The fact that Cleveland didn't name their bike "The Steamer" makes me sad.
I just bought a 2020 Kawasaki W800 as my first bike. So far so good!
vid starts at 2:30
Ahh the S40... Literally the definition of sitting on your tailbone and disintegrating it into dust after 10 miles.
Kymco Spade also has a 5 speed gearbox going for it...... But not much else.....
Glad to see mine wasn't on the list. Liked the Jefferson trivia too.
I literally just ordered my first proper bike today. And in keeping with what seems like internet tradition, I did not pick any of these :-) My ZX6R is on its way...eventually. Now if only it will come before the end of riding season...
Loved the overall energy in this one ✌🏼
He’s just making these lists to be a troll at this point.
05 buell xb9r for my first bike. Thoroughly enjoying it.
Fuck yeah! D Tier! I'll have you know I hit 70mph on my Himalayan in FIFTH GEAR mind you. Yeah it was downhill, yeah there was a tail wind, and so what if it doesn't have a 6th. Shit bike gang gang.
Best beginner bike is a 250 dual sport.
Learn to ride in all conditions from the start.
Yup, or one of the new 300s from Honda and Kawasaki if you want a new bike. They're great and I imagine you won't want to ever sell them.
Depends on how much commuting you plan to do from the get go and what your commute entails. Most people in that position would get the most out of something like the mt-07. I couldn’t even imagine taking my Himalayan to work every day
Wouldn't mind seeing a Cleveland werks ace 400 cafe ride n review
I started riding on a 94' suzuki savage (s40) and tbh I liked it a lot, even though it had a few problems
only two kinds of riders Yammie.
Been really tempted to trade in my Himalayan for a versys 300 to use as a commuter bike. I blame Ryan at Fortnine
@@Cabooseified the real answer is a s1000rr
@@talltale9760 LMAO!!! Omg no!!!I don't have that money and good lord could you imagine someone trying to off-road that bike?
I think the Ducati scrambler is also a pretty good but odd beginner bike. The price is not quite beginner friendly but if the budget is right then i think it's not too bad. I had my first tank slapper, lowside, drops, and other "oh crap" moments on it and I feel like it was a pretty easy bike to ride considering the sitting position is pretty comfy and it's not a tall ride. The only downside I had with mine was that sometimes the throttle was not responsive when I was blipping the throttle but other than that it was a great bike to learn imo.
Early model fz09 best beginner bike, you’ll get used to the throttle, just don’t put in a mode
Just picked up a Vitpilen 701 as my first bike how good of a decision was that? 😅😅 ( never rode a motorcycle before)
Yam need to ride an s40. it's a great bike. Another Royal Enfield type video please.
5:33 why, is the warranty voided if you take it to a mechanic to have it serviced?
turning 18 next year omg I just cannot wait to get my sv650 as second bike!!
any reason you dont recommend the husq vitpilen 401?
The drought it over, bike tiers list are back
My first bike was a ‘18 street triple r 765 and I wish I would have kept it.
Hahaha bennlli above the 650 re this guy is absolutely insane ay 😆 I love it
love your videos so much! but you need a pop filter on that microphone ha
I’m offended😅 had two KLX650 singles as my first bikes to learn on loved them.
Derek Carr being on the screen was fucking hilarious. Gold star to the editor
Now I feel like a mad man I started on a z1000 2016, on my second one tho i got rear ended on a exit ramp in jersey 🤦♂️ I have like 50,000 miles on the second one and my spare is a ninja 1000 2011
That DmC reference tho. Hahaha
I was recently given a yamaha sr500 is this a good bike to start on. Also im looking for upgrades to do to the bike?
I AM getting a turbo busa for my first bike. No ifs or buts about it
13:57 why that robot looking kinda thick 👀
Spent last year on a little Tao Tao 250 cheap mail to order bike and loved it but this year I’m on a 2015 FZ09 what a world of differences!🤷♂️🤦🏻🤣😂🤣😂
I got a 2018 XT250 because my father said I couldn’t get a “big bike” till I knew how to ride so basically I have to have the small bike for a nother year till I’m 18
would liove to see you compare the benelli 502c with other beginner cruisers
I have a 502c! I have 13200km on it and im superrr happy with it. So issues so far!
Can't go wrong with an older style ninja 250 you can find them anywhere I bet for under 1500 bucks
currently have a 100cc modded moped and a 1991 honda shadow vt600 bobber then im buying the 2023 r1 when it comes out
Itchy boots rode a Himalayan cross country. It depends on the riding style and prefence.
The s40 is fun and bulletproof. Is rather ride that than some of the others on this list
nice to see my sr400 at least mentioned lol
I cannot believe I actually heard the words "advanced Suzuki technology" in the same sentence
First bike
Tried cb 500x
I like it
Would love to see your take on CF moto motorcycles!
Same!!
Hey boy , hows about looking at the CFMoto 650nk ? , like the 650 RE these are a great bike , I enjoy your show's but the snobbery wears thin ,,, ok .
I have an Ace. Zippy around town, hilariously crappy on the highway.
Thanks to yummy tube and after years of consideration I finally got my Kawasaki Ninja 500 as a starter bike.
yo nice vid . yo how long do orders take ship riding gear ?!
